-The Rosebowl host this vital match.
23d.jpg

-The two captains are out in the middle performing the coin toss.
A important match for both teams with a win sealing a place in the semi finals for either team. Again, unfortunetly the Rose bowl isn't up to its full capacity but there is a lively atmosphere despite the cold cloudy conditions with a little brightness breaking through.
25d.jpg

England unchange will be looking forward to posting a high score for Sri lanka to chase down on this predominantly flat Rosebowl wicket. However on the other hand Sri Lanka know good bowling could seal them a place in the semis.
24d.jpg

The Sri Lankas have a formidable line up with 4 bolwers averaging below 30 and having a strike rate below 40, moreover they also have the help of top spinner Mutiah Muralitharn.
So can England seal a place in the Semi Finals or will SriLanka find out soon.

Update after 25 overs:
30e.jpg

England, in a must win situation for both sides are in a difficult situation with 6 wickest lost at the half way mark. A.Strauss's poor run of batting performances continued when he got cuaght and bowled again for a duck. Moreover his fellow opener Trescothick went for 4.
26e.jpg

-Strauss gets caught and bowled again.
England eventually Slumped to 35 for 5 with all batsmen going cheaply however a partnership of 52 between Jones and Collingwodd brough the score to 87-5 untill Jones was caught and bowled for a hard fought 25.
29e.jpg

-The scorecard shows a poor performance.
England now finish the 25th over on 110 for 6 with P.Collingwood on 44 notout with him playing some very good shots.

-Collingwood in action during his 44 notout.

they are in trouble now with murali to come things are'nt lloking too good for the hosts.

well things are looking out of control for england at the moment but i am sure they will comeback and we will be able to see a really good contest

England battle on to make 186 all out with P.Collingwood finishing 100 notout. At the half way stage England were 110 for 6 and in serious trouble but P.Collingwood battle on to make a 100 of 119 balls. However unfortunetly he wasn't supported with the next top scorer being G.Jones 25 who he shared a 50 partnership with.
32f.jpg

-Collingwood looks inf fine form clipping the ball through the on side.
The pick of the Sri Lankan bowling was mostly shared with the world class spinner M.Muralitharan remaining wicketless although he did bowl 6 maidens and 10 overs for just 15 runs. On the toher hand N.Zoysa bowled 7 overs and took 4 wickets for 36 when he ripped throguh the tail and finally another spinner, Dilsahn tookthe wicket of Giles caught at slip.

- Giles falls to a good slip catch.

Update End of Innings:
The focus though of the Englsih Innings was Collingwood who looked settled from the start.
34f.jpg

-Collingwood hits one of his 4 sixes in his innings.
35f.jpg

- He now smashes one along the floor for 4.
However Collingwood was lucky on a few ocasions chipping the ball just short of fieldsman and getting nearly runout. However the closest he came to be given out was a LBW shout which was given not out. This from Hawkeye was a good decision.

- Just missing off-stumped.

Update After 25 overs:
43g.jpg

England startedthe innings needing 10 wickets to secure a place in the semi finals and Sri Lanka 187 runs. However it looked like England may pull of a magnificant victory when D.Gough Bolwed the opening batsmen for 0 leaving the Sri Lankans at 5 for 1.
42g.jpg

-S.Jayasuriya looks in form taking on all the bowlers.
The thorn in Englans side though was Jayaysuroya who look in fine touch going to 47 notout at the half way mark after being well supported by the captain M.Atapatu.
41g.jpg

-Driven through the off side for another boundary
40g.jpg

-A Repeat stroke just a bit straighter to avoid the fielder place the extra cover area.
So if England wish to win they need 9 moire wickets and Sri Lanka 101 runs from 25 overs.

Update End of Innings:
England crushed by Sri Lanka sealing them a spot in the semis.
45g.jpg

46g.jpg

47g.jpg

Engaldn started poorly after the half way mark getting dispatch several times to the boundary and soon Jayasuriya was nearing a century and Atapatu and half century. However just 30 runs adrift of the victory amount D.Gough who was returned to that attack to the viatl wicket of Jayasuriay for 100 by LBW.
44g.jpg

-The balls hits his back foot right in front.
Suddenly England believed they could take these wickets and when Atapatu was bowled for 50 by anderson the place erupted. Then 10 runs later Flintoff bowled Kumar Sangakarra for just 4 leaving them 182 for 4 but it was all to late with Sri Lanka crusing to victory.

So England the host a knocked out, much to the disappointment of a English counrty. After the match Sky Sports spoke to both captains.
SkySports: M.Vaughan, are you disappointed to have loss and got knocked out of the trophy.
Vaughan: Yeh off course is a disappointment. We were outplayed from the start and only thanks to colingwood we got into the position we were in where we were still in the game. I thougth we started well taking a early wicket but i think we need just another one and then we had them in trouble. We fought throughout taking wicket right at the end but it was just too late.
SkySports: Thanks Michael and Marvan Atapatu congratualtions on a great victoyr and a place in the semi finals.
Atapattu:Thanks, we knew we could win when we got them all out for 187 but we thougth there was a bit in the pitch to aid the seamers so we were a abit weary. The early wicket they took was a real shocl and fro a moment we thoguht we could lose it but myself and Jayasuriya fought hard and got us right up to the target. But then we began to questions our selves again when we loss 3 wickets for 25 runs, but we pulled through and i am delighted.
SkySports: Thanks to both captains and now for then man of the match award. It could of gone to mnay people. N.Zoysa for his 4 wickets whch ripped through the top order, or P.Collingwood for his 100 notout which enable England a chance, but everyone agrees it should go to Sanath Jayasuriya for his 100 which got Sri Lanka right on Track.
