ICC Champions Trophy - England 2004
ICC Champions Trophy, 2004, 1st Match
England v Zimbabwe, Pool D
Edgbaston, Birmingham
10th September 2004 (50-over match) Update Start of Zimbabwe Innings:
England after setting a good 252 to win left the pavillion ready to take 10 Zimbabwe wickets. D.Gough opened the bowling and started of well bowling a madien shortly followed by a wicket maiden from J.Anderson. However Zimbabwe were careful and did hit the bad balls for 4.
-The bad ball gets dispatched for 4.
After a very slow start and with 1 wicket down thanks to a in-swinger from Anderson, Zimbabwe looked in a bit of trouble, so England introduced S.Harmison and A.Flintoff who had an imediate effect.
A.Flitnoff finds the edge with his very first ball.
Flintoff was looking in fine form however Harmison was looking a bit out of touch getting smashed for 4 before ihe finally found the edge.
S.Harmison gets smashed for 4.
Harmison gest his revenge finding the outside edge to a well placed second slip.
Very good presentation, even though the game is on PS2 (or is it XBoX?) there has been no shortage of snaps! Also good attention to details paid. Reps for you mate!

10th September 2004 (50-over match) Update End of Innings:
England Demolish Zimbabwe side:
Zimbabwes hopes of a victory were dashed by some fast bowling from the English. T.Taibu top score for Zimbabwe with 35 before being bowled by A.Giles, and the rest from that is disappointing with extras being the next top scorer. However at one point it seemed that Zimbabwe were on track despite tumbling wickets since at the half way mark England were 108-2 where as Zimbabwe were 107-6 with Taibu 32 notout.
-Zimbabwe on target despite loss of wickets.
-Zimbabwe batsmen smash many balls through the covers.
However it is disappointed to see that in the end zimbabwe loss 4 wickets in 5 overs for just 7 runs which clearly shows the inexpierence of the side. S.Harmison starred with the ball despite being exspensive taking 3 wickets closely followed by Flintoff with 2 and Collingwodd 2.

So with a loss to Zimbabwe, there ICC Champions Trohpy Campaign is almost definetly over but the big question is can England defeat Sri Lanka. M.Trescothic gets Man Of The Match award for his 101 which was certainly the backbone of the english innings.
Skysports caught up with the various captains and players to diiscuss the match.
SkySports: Well a decisive victory for England with more than a 100 runs. Michael Vaughan did you think that this was a show of how good England can execute a ODI. Vaughan: Well, yes, we never let the new batsmen settle and each player contributed whether with bat or ball or just fielding. However there are some areas we must improve on if we wish to compete against Sri Lanka. SkySports: I don'y know if you knew but at the half way stage in the Zimbabwe innings they were just 1 run behind of what England were on, do you think this shows the goodness of the picth and/or the good batting. Vaughan: Well we knew they were doing well but when we chose to bat we knew it was a 250 picth so it was expected that Zimbabwe would get some runs however i think the wickets well at that stage showed how well we actually were performing. Even more 7 runs later we had finished that game. SkySports: Taibu well played but your team just wasn't up to the task. Taibu: Yes we were doing well but Collingowod and Giles, who got me, bowled well along with Harmison and Flintoff. At 107-6 though you usually expect to reach a bit more than 114. SkySports:Thanks to both captains and now the Man Of The Match award. This could of gone to many players. Panayagara for his 4 for 37, S.Harmison for his 3-56 but the vast majority voted for M.Trescothic and his 101. SkySports:Marcus how did that innings feel and was it good to get some runs so early in the trohpy. Trescothick: Offcourse but i was disappointed to get out so qucikly after reaching a ton. Getting some runs at a short competeion like this is vtial with games so close together and it is vital for you and your team your on top form beacuse a loss now and your almost certainly out of the competetion. SkySports: Well that concludes the awards ceremony and now we will wiat for the next results and offcourse England v Sri Lanka.
