South Africa have completed a comfortable 7 wicket win over England at Bloemfontein.
Chasing a target of just 135, South Africa got off to a good but steady start. The openers, Gibbs and Smith, played both Harmison and Gough well. However Alex Wharf, who was brought in by Vaughan as first change, struck in his very first over dismissing the dangerous Gibbs. Gough was then reintroduced into the attack and he dismissed Smith for 41.
South Africa at this stage were in a slight spot of bother at 66-2, but thanks to a vital partnership between Adam Bacher (37) and Jacques Kallis(31*), South Africa reached their target pretty comfortable. Although they did lose the wicket of Bacher for 37, after Harmison had him clean bowled.

South Africa's Mr.consistent, Jacques Kallis was named Man of the Match after picking up 2 wickets, and guiding his team home with an unbeaten knock of 31.

With this win, South Africa have taken a 2-0 lead in the 7 match series.

The next match is another Day & Night encounter, at Port Elizabeth, day after tomorrow.

Join us for that. Till then, goodbye.

Good victory by SA

Eng should pick up their game otherwise they will pay for it

Thanks for the feedback mate.

Yup, surely England need to pull up their socks, and take note of the situation that they are in atm. Another win for SA, will make it almost impossible for England to win the series.

South Africa gain comfortable win

Andrew Hall produced early inroads in the England batting lineup.

Andrew Hall picked up two vital wickets as South Africa went 2-0 up in the series against England with seven wicket win in the second match in Bloemfontein.

England had set the hosts 135 to win after Paul Collingwood top scored for his team again with 31 off 59 balls.

South Africa hit their target in the 33rd over, with Kallis stroking 31 off 66 balls and sharing in a 66-run stand with Adam Bacher (37).

England made a horrible start after winning the toss, with Marcus Trescothick and Vikram Solanki both being dismissed early.

Trescothick farmed the strike and had faced 11 balls when he was caught off Mkhaya Ntini (1-21) for 8 on the last ball of the 3rd over.

Solanki, having survived a caught behind chance in the very first over, only managed to score 4 before having his stumps rattled by Shaun Pollock.

Apart from Vaughan's 20 and Collingwood's 31, everyone else failed to contribute, as England were bowled out for a poultry 134 in 36.4 overs.

South Africa celebrate as England are bowled out for just 134

Full credit to the South African bowlers after a clinical and professional performance on the field, making optimum use of the bowler friendly conditions.

South Africa set off in spritely fashion with Smith and Gibbs playing their shots to England's new-ball attack.

However the dangerous Gibbs wasnt able to do much damage tonight, after being caught by Strauss off Wharf.

Smith indulged in brace of glorious cover-driven boundaries off Darren Gough (1-42), who hit back in the second spell to pick up the wicket of the South African captain. Smith had scored 41 from 44 balls.

Adam Bacher(37) and Jacques Kallis (31*) took South Africa to safety, but the former was dismissed by Steve Harmison just 3 runs away from victory. Kallis and Prince then guided South Africa to an emphatic 7 wicket victory over England and go 2-0 up in the series.

The series now heads to Port Elizabeth for the 3rd ODI between these two sides, in another day and night match.

Interview with the England captain

Vaughan vows to raise game

England captain, Michael Vaughan is confident that his team will bounce back from the 2-0 deficit in the Standard Bank ODI Series against South Africa.
The visitors were humiliated by a 7 wicket defeat in the 2nd match at Bloemfontein, and now face the prospect of losing the series, should the home side win even two of the remaining five matches.

We caught up with the England captain on the very next day, at the hotel in which the team has been put up.

Hello Michael, thanks a lot for coming up for this interview.

MV: My pleasure.

Okay now down to business. How much have England been hurt after yesterday's 7 wicket defeat?

MV: Well, no doubt, we are disappointed, its never good to lose, and also the fact that they(South Africa) won so easily at the end, spoke volumes about out performance. But I guess this can only instigate us to pick up our game and do well in the remaining five matches.

But do you think a series win is a bit too much to ask of your team, after going 2-0 down?

MV: No, definately not. Yes we are 2-0 down in the series, but there are five matches remaining, and anything can happen in those matches. Had this been a five match series, then being 2-0 down would really put us in a really difficult situation. But as it stands now, I am sure we can bounce back in this series.

What about the performances of Andrew Strauss and Marcus Trescothick?

MV: Well Andrew and Marcus are two of the most important players of this England team. Yeah, they havent performed yet in this series, but its just two games, and I dont think we can conclude much about a player's performance on the basis of just two games, especially if the player has done well before and is capable of doing well in the upcoming matches.

Will you be making any changes in the side for the next game?

MV: Well we have to decide on team selection for tomorrow's game. We should not make any rash changes just because we lost the previous two games. Every team has bad days, but the important thing is how the team bounces back.

But there are other players who probably deserve a shot in the starting lineup.

MV: Oh yeah, most definately. We will analyse the situation and the performances of the players in the previous two games, and if required give some of the other players a chance in the remaining games.

What about Kevin Pieterson. How do you rate him?

MV: Kev is a bright prospect for England. He played well in the first match, and played well in Zimbabwe also. We know he is capable to delivering the goods for England, and I think its only matter of time before he does just that.

Thanks Michael, and wish you all the best for tomorrow's game.

MV: Cheers mate.

So that was the England captain Michael Vaughan speaking on his team's performance and chances in the ODI series against South Africa.
Join us tomorrow for LIVE action between the two teams in the 3rd ODI.

South Africa leads 7 match series 2-0

ihnp-341012.jpg

Hello and welcome to this 3rd One Day International between South Africa and England in this series. South Africa have a healthy 2-0 lead going into the remaining five matches, and a win in just two of them will hand them the series. But we know a lot can happen in those matches, and lets not jump to any conclusions yet.

Well the conditions and the pitch for today's game is as shown.
ihnp-341014.jpg

ihnp-341025.jpg

So as you can see there is no chance of rain, which gives an exciting day and night of cricket.
The pitch is good one for batting, but there might some moisture present in the air, in the night, and hence it might not be as easy to bat under lights.
So I would want to bat first and make good use of this pitch, and then leave to my bowlers to do the job in the night session.

We shall now see what happened in today's all important coin toss.

The news from the middle is that Graeme Smith has won the toss and has asked England to bowl first.

The teams for today's match:

England have made one change to the side that was trashed by South Africa in the last game, with James Anderson coming in place of veteran Darren Gough.

No changes for South Africa.
