England lose three early wickets

Natwest 50 Over Match
Hampshire vs England
Rose Bowl

England 18-3 5 Overs
A. Strauss 1*(6) J. Lewis 1-5
A. Flintoff 2*(4) C. Tremlett 1-13

Bob Willis: Well England have started off their one day campaign in disastrous fashion, losing three wickets in these first five overs, as Tremlett and Lewis have bowled really well. Jonathan Lewis, along with Gareth Batty have been drafted into the Hampshire side for this match to keep them involved and match fit before the Natwest Series begins.

Ravi Shastri: That no doubt is a bad start for England, but again two young English bowlers have shown a lot of talent, and have bowled beautifully. Lewis especially was so very tight with his line and length.

Bob Willis: Well England started off with a boundary when Trescothick smashed Tremlett over extra cover off the very first delivery. They very next ball saw Tremlett pitch one up and have Trescothick trapped in front of leg stump. Good comeback by the Hampshire bowler.

Ravi Shastri: And the next man to go was the England captain Michael Vaughan. Very unlucky and totally unnecessary here. It was a bad call from Vikram Solanki, and Vaughan paid the price by losing his wicket. Good work by John Crawley though.

Bob Willis: Jonathan Lewis then had Vikram Solanki out LBW to a superb inswinging delivery. England reduced to 15-3.

England then moved on to 18-3 after 5 overs. Strauss and Flintoff are the two batsmen in at the moment, and are finding it very tough to deal with this green wicket.

excellent bowling by hampshire they have an international team in trouble

England recover through Flintoff and Strauss

Natwest 50 Over Match
Hampshire vs England

Rose Bowl

England 80-3 20 Overs
A. Strauss 30*(64) J. Lewis 1-20
A. Flintoff 29*(38) C. Tremlett 1-24

Projected Scores
Current (4 rpo): 200
4.5 rpo: 215
5.0 rpo: 230
5.5 rpo: 245
6.0 rpo: 260
7.0 rpo: 290
8.0 rpo: 320
10 rpo : 380

David Gower: A 65 run partnership between the two Andrews, Strauss and Flintoff, have seen England recover from 15-3 to reach 80-3 after 20 overs. Batting is still not easy at the moment, and each and every run has to be earned. However the rest of the Hampshire bowlers havent been able to put as much pressure on the England batsmen as the two opening bowlers, Chris Tremlett and Jonathan Lewis. Andrew Flintoff looks good on his comeback match, and even Strauss seems to have settled now.
So after 20 overs, England are 80-3.

The Champ said:
yes good recovery but eng will do well they will get 275
Thats probably too much to ask, considering the type of pitch on which this game is being played. The ball is moving a lot, and batting is tough. I would say a score above 175 is defendable while above 225 is a really good one.

Natwest 50 Over Match
Hampshire vs England
Rose Bowl

England 198-4 40 Overs
A. Strauss 90*(124) J. Lewis 1-20
K. Pieterson 17*(18) C. Tremlett 1-24
A. Flintoff 70(80) B. Taylor 1-27

Projected Scores
Current (4.95 rpo): 248
4.0 rpo: 238
4.5 rpo: 243
5.0 rpo: 248
5.5 rpo: 253
6.0 rpo: 258
7.0 rpo: 268
8.0 rpo: 278
10 rpo: 298

Bob Willis: Some excellent batting from Andrew Flintoff and Andrew Strauss has taken England to a pretty good position, considering the conditions as well as the start they got off to. Flintoff scored a superb 70 off just 80 deliveries while Strauss is unbeaten on 90. Kevin Pieterson is the other man in at the moment for England, and has been pretty aggressive in his innings so far. England in a good position at the moment, and they can score aroung 260 if they score a run ball from now on, and that would be a very good score on this wicket.

Ravi Shastri: Yes and it was good to see Kevin Pieterson step out and hit Shane Warne for a four. That is something which has been lacking in the England players, as they dont have the confidence to step out to Warne. But with players like Flintoff and Pieterson, you could expect that to change.

Bob Willis: Well the only wicket to fall was that of Andrew Flintoff, caught by Gareth Batty off Billy Taylor.

I've given you some reps for the great detail in your story that always brings me back!

England post massive score

Natwest 50 Over Match
Hampshire vs England
Rose Bowl

England 285-8 50 Overs
A. Strauss 122(146) C. Tremlett 2-47
A. Flintoff 70(80) J. Lewis 2-50
G. Jones 37*(29) S. Warne 1-36

Hampshire need 286 runs to win from 50 overs at 5.72 rpo

David Gower: Well despite that terrible start by England wherein they were reduced to 15-3, they have bounced back in style to post a superb score here at the Rose Bowl. A total of 87 runs were scored in the final ten overs, thanks largely to Andrew Strauss and Geraint Jones. 4 wickets also fell during this period, those of Pieterson, Collingwood, Simon Jones and Andrew Strauss.
Strauss played a fine innings here and was well rewarded with a hundred. But Jones' quickfire 37 from just 29 balls at the end was very useful and helped England reach 285.
