warnes gone wicketless! hes obviously saving himself for the tests
David Gower: Well Warne did pick up one wicket, but even he was unable to stop England's runfest at the end.

I think England will bowl them out for a low score and win comfortabaly. You've got the team to do it!

I've given you some reps for the great detail in your story that always brings me back!
Cheers mate. Really appreciate that.

Andrew Strauss' 122 puts England on top against Hampshire

Bob Willis: Yes indeed. A superb innings from Strauss there, and he was pretty much there in the middle for the entire England innings. How pleased are you Straussy after than hundred?

Andrew Strauss: Very pleased Bob. It definately will boost my confidence ahead of the one day series. I didnt have a particularly good time in South Africa, and I was pretty much desperate to put things back on track. So its been a great start for me here, and am glad my hundred has helped my team post a good score here today.

Bob Willis: And that hundred is all the more special as it was pretty tough to bat today, wasnt it?

Andrew Strauss: Yes it, especially for the first 20-25 overs where we really had to be extra careful with every shot we played. But I think Freddie and myself dint take too many risks at that times, just got the scoreboard ticking, dint lose any wickets, and made it easier for us to score runs freely in the last few overs.

Bob Willis: So you reckon its not as tough batting now as it was in the morning?

Andrew Strauss: Yes definately. Which is why we must not get carried away with this score. We will have to bowl well, which I am sure our bowlers will be aware of.

Bob Willis: Thanks Andrew, and all the best.

Andrew Strauss: Cheers mate.

England thrash Hants

Natwest 50 Over Match
Hampshire vs England
Rose Bowl

Hampshire 104 all out 31.1 Overs
S. Warne 42(48) D. Gough 5-12
G. Batty 25(58) S. Jones 2-18

England 285-8 50 Overs
A. Strauss 122(146) C. Tremlett 2-47
A. Flintoff 70(80) J. Lewis 2-50
G. Jones 37*(29) S. Warne 1-36

England win by 181 runs

David Gower: A complete one side affair at the end, with England coming out as comprehensive winners, winning by 181 runs. Hampshire never got the runchase going, and were at one stage 15-5, before captain Shane Warne, and England team import Gareth Batty resurrected the innings. But Darren Gough who picked up three wickets in his first spell, came back and picked up two more in his second, and Hampshire finally collapsed to 104 all out.

Ravi Shastri: Well a ruthless performance from the England bowlers. Darren Gough was magnificent, and was well supported by Harmison, Jones and Flintoff.

David Gower: And with that we bid farewell to Ravi Shastri who will now head to the capital for his work with Wisden. Thanks a lot Ravi for commentating in this match.

Ravi Shastri: Its my pleasure, David.

David Gower: We will take a short break now, after which the match presentation ceremony involving a very special chief guest, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. Its all live here on Sky Sports Extra.

England seems to be in fantastic form at the moment. Also a complete good unit that should do just better and better from here.

Match presentation

Bob Willis: Welcome to Rose Bowl, and to the match presentation. First, its my extreme honour to announce that our chief guest today here at the Rose Bowl is His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh. And he will present the award to today's Man of the Match.

Now I would like to call upon Shane Warne, the captain of Hampshire.

Well that was some drubbing your team got.

Shane Warne: Yeah pretty much. I am really disappointed with the way we played today. After having them down to 15-3, we dint sustain the pressure and they fought back well and posted a good score. Our batting performance was shameful, and everyone really needs to look at this and try and analyze what went wrong and where, so that we can buckle up ahead of the next match against Worcestershire.

Bob Willis: Well good to see you not happy to lose any kind of game. Ladies and Gentlemen, a warm applause for Shane Warne.

And now to the England captain Michael Vaughan.

Well Michael, good comeback by Strauss and Flintoff and then your bowlers really never let Hampshire into the game.

Michael Vaughan: Yeah I thought Strauss and Flintoff played really well under pretty tough conditions. Jon Lewis and Chris Tremlett bowled beautifully in the morning, but we fought back well and put up a high score. Our bowlers then had to just to keep the line and length proper, and thats what they did, and did it very well.

Bob Willis: And what about Darren Gough. He is 33, and just cant stop taking wickets, can he?

Michael Vaughan: Well he is a class act and a very important player of this team. He has so much experience, and really is a role model for our younger bowlers. Also his variation in swing and pace, really makes him one of the better bowlers today and a very important player in this England team.

Bob Willis: Thanks Vaughanie, and Darren Gough is our Man of the Match for his fantastic figures of 5-12, and he will collect his reward from His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh.
A superb performance from the veteran England fast bowler.

Darren, getting older getting better?

Darren Gough: Well dont know about that. I surely dont feel as young I would a few years back. But I am really pleased with my recent performances, and hopefully I can continue doing the same in the upcoming matches.

Bob Wilis: And any thought of a comeback to test cricket?

Darren Gough: Not really. As I said I dont feel as young anymore and I do get tired a lot sooner than I would have 4-5 years back. And I think its better for me and for England to concentrate more on the one day internationals.

Yeah that is true. But honestly I was confident of winning this match when I crossed 200. Rarely has the CPU batted well against me (or for that matter anyone) on a green top.

I will be using Ravi's new patch for the Natwest Series. But the next match is the Twenty20 International between Australia and England from this same ground.

David Gower: Welcome to the Rose Bowl for this Twenty20 International match between England and Australia. This is the first Twenty20 International match being held in England, and also the first being played by England. Australia on the other hand were involved in the first ever Twenty20 International match against New Zealand, and which they won.

David Lyold: Also a lot of the Australians have played Twenty20 cricket for the various counties here in the UK, while most of the England players have not been involved in any Twenty20 game. This includes captain Michael Vaughan.

David Gower: Yes and that clearly hands Australia a slight advantage, but honestly speaking, this game is such, that experience doesnt really count for much.

David Lyold: Well if you have played it before you probably know what to do and when. But both teams here have hard hitting players, and I am really looking forward to this game.

David Gower: As indeed is this capacity crowd here at The Rose Bowl. Lets now head to the middle and have a look at the conditions with Bob Willis followed by the pitch report with Ian Botham.

Conditions Check

Bob Willis: Thanks David. Well its a warm sunny day here at Southampton. No real sight of rain, and there is a mild breeze blowing from the east. Its might get a bit chilly in the second part of the match, but overall good conditions for Twenty20 cricket. And we have a fully packed stadium too and a great atmosphere here. Should be a cracking game between these two rivals.

And now its time for the pitch report with Ian.

Pitch Report

Ian Botham: Thanks mate. Yes and to the pitch now. What we have here is a pretty good wicket, not too hard, but one that will generate a decent amount of bounce, especially in the first part of the innings. Not much grass cover, nowhere near what we had in the game against Hampshire, when it was a complete green pitch. So good for batting and something in it for the bowlers also. All in all a good cricket pitch and with lots of runs, as it is a Twenty20 game and also some wickets if you bowl a correct line and length.

And now its back to the studio with David.

David Gower: Thanks Ian. So David what do you think about the wicket?

David Lyold: Yeah its a good surface. No grass cover really, which is a bit weird considering the amount of it we had in the last game between England and Hampshire. But thats good news for the batsmen, and this being a Twenty20 game, we can now expect a lot of runs here.

David Gower: Yes indeed. Well there are a lot of players who one may think suit this kind of hard hitting entertaining cricket. Both England and Australia have players who fit in this category. So David who do you reckon are the two players to watch out for in this match.

David Lyold: Well I'll make that four players to watch out for, and select Pieterson and Flintoff from England, and Adam Gilchrist and Andrew Symonds from Australia. But out of all these four I would definately have to choose the Australian wicketkeeper as the ideal player for this kind of cricket.

adam_gilchrist,0.jpg

Watch out for this man, as he can really hit the ball hard

David Gower: And few would argue on that. Adam Gilchrist is a class act indeed, and will be one of the players everyone will be looking forward to in this match.

Anyways we shall take a small break now and after the break we will have the coin toss for this Twenty20 match between England and Australia, LIVE here from the Rose Bowl.
