Cook reaches 50 after solid knock

Alastair Cook reached his second 50 of the series after a solid knock at Lords. The Essex man reached his 50 off 87 balls. He hit 4 fours and kept the scoreboard ticking over well with singles. Before he brought up the half century, Ian Bell, hit some sizzling cover drives through extra cover that got the England fans into a frenzy.

Umpires call lunch on 1st day

As 1 o'clock dawned, the umpires called lunch on the 1st day of the 2nd Npower Test Match at Lords. England will have been generally happy having made their way to 134/3 on a green pitch, having been 82/3. A nice unbeaten 52 partnership from Ian Bell and Alastair Cook have helped this happen. The West Indies will also be happy with their morning's work, and will look to get into the late middle order this afternoon. Corey Collymore has been excellent for them, with his figures at 2-37.

England 134/3

Cook 56 (92)
Bell 33 (31)

Windies need wickets in next one hr of next session.. Atleast 5-6 down before Tea :p

Cook and Bell both are looking in good touch :p Windies need to take to take them out ;) nice presentation Phili :clap

Bell gets out just after lunch!

In the first couple of overs after lunch, Bell and Cook found it difficult to burst the infield and find the boundary. In the end, the frustration showed, Bell pulled a ball from Fidel Edwards but could only manage to hit it to Ian Bradshaw at square leg. The Warwickshire man looked disappointed as he passed the MCC members, at getting out for 33 after looking so good. The wicket left England on 142/4 and brought Andrew Flintoff to the crease.

England 146/4

Cook 61 (109)
Flintoff 3 (2)

Classic bell innings there :p time for freddie to smash a quick centruy and then you can send in Broad to score 250 on his own

Cook angry after dismissal

With just 4 added since Andrew Flintoff's arrival at the crease, Alastair Cook decided to try and attack Corey Collymore and hit him through the covers for 4. However, he could only succeed in edging the delivery through to Denesh Ramdin, who decided instead of leaving slip to take a dolly, he would make a wonderful diving catch. He did this and the West Indian fielders started celebrating. Cook went for 61, 2 less than his other half century in the series at Trent Bridge. While he kept his good form going, he knew that England needed him to get a hundred and he showed that as he looked to the sky. The next man in was Chris Read, with England's score being on 146/5.

Read out after brief flurry

After, Cook's dismissal, Flintoff and Read decided it was time to get on with it and attack the bowlers. This included Flintoff hitting 3 sixes from the bowling of Jerome Taylor in one over. One of these sixes was a Loye-like slog sweep. Then in the next over, Read decided it was his turn to have a go and he hit Corey Collymore for 6. However, two balls later, Collymore had his revenge and his 4th wicket. Read tried to hit Collymore for six down the ground, but mis-timed it and could only hit it to Brian Lara at mid-off. A nervous moment for the next man in, on his England test debut, Stuart Broad. He will look to get runs at number 8 with England on 176/6.

England 176/6 (36 Overs)

Flintoff 22 (7)
Broad 0 (3)
