Story England's Internationals - England v WI - England win series 2-0

I decided to go with a new style of presentation, so I hope you like it...

England make crucial breakthroughs

Despite him hitting an early boundary, Ganga always seemed nervous at the crease and lost his wicket in a silly fashion. He tried to hook a ball behind square from Steve Harmison that should have been pulled and the catch was taken by the diving Andrew Strauss. The man that then came to the crease was Brian Lara

After a couple of successive boundaries from both Gayle and Lara both batsmen looked settled. However, Hoggard who was still going in a long opening spell decided to bowl a fast yorker to left-hander Gayle. The attacking opener tried to straight drive the delivery but only succeeded in missing the ball and it went through to knock his off stump out of the ground.

Lara and Chanderpaul frustrate England

With Harmison and Hoggard tiring they conceded boundaries. Lara in particular started finding the gaps as he raced to a quick start. In their attempts, both bowlers bowled from over and around the wicket, neither having much success.

Michael Vaughan decided it was time for a change and brought Andrew Flintoff on for Steve Harmison. A couple of overs later Lancashire bowler James Anderson was brought on for Matthew Hoggard. They both bowled too full and were cover driven for four runs frequently. Anderson and Flintoff were expensive.

Anderson bowled 2 overs for 9 runs before being replaced by Monty Panesar. Panesar came on and caused minor problems for the batsmen, but his 2 lbw appeals against Brian Lara were both extremely unlikely to be given out by the umpire. Even Panesar was hit for some boundaries by the batsman, he looked very annoyed. Flintoff continued to be very expensive even conceding 16 from one of his over, those runs were from the bat of Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

West Indies 105/2.

Lara 46 (53)
Chanderpaul 19 (29)

Require 273 more runs to win

Lara brings up 50 in stylish fashion

Brian Lara continued to blossom as he hit 6 off long-on off the bowling of Monty Panesar to bring up a wonderful 50. The West Indian showed real signs of intent and got stuck into the English spinner.

The revenge of the Monster!

Lara continued to try and attack Panesar but as he danced down the wicket in the penultimate ball before tea, the whole of Trent Bridge could foresee the outcome. His bat was nowhere near the ball and the ball rattled into the stumps. Lara was very disappointed, while Panesar was delighted to be going in for his crumpets with a wicket under his belt.

Day 3 Tea

Monty strikes after slow start

A slow start after tea was brought to life when Panesar got the wicket of Shivnarine Chanderpaul. With Flintoff and Panesar keeping the run rate down, Chanderpaul got frustrated and simply chipped a Panesar delivery to the waiting Steve Harmison at mid-on. Harmison took a overhead catch. This wicket brought Dwayne Bravo to the crease.

50 Partnership moves Windies towards total

With Sarwan scoring slowly, it was the turn of Dwayne Bravo to get on with the job and move the run rate up. He certainly did that, hitting boundaries firstly off James Anderson and then from Steve Harmison who replaced Anderson. Then, Sarwan got in on the act with a couple of fours before Bravo decided it was really to go for it! He hit Monty for six twice over mid-wicket to bring up the 50 partnership. Panesar was fuming, and snapped at the umpire, for which the umpire did not at all seem happy.

West Indies 191/4 (52 Overs)

Sarwan 27 (68)
Bravo 36 (44)

West Indies require 187 more runs to win

Windies need to keep this partnership moving on :D lovely presentation Phli :clap

Bravo 50 lights up Trent Bridge before Stumps

Dwayne Bravo and Ramnaresh Sarwan kept the West Indies chase alive before the close of play. Bravo in particular attacked as he hit a massive six straight down the ground to bring up his 50, off the bowling of Steve Harmison. Ian Bell and Kevin Pietersen both bowled one over each during the last couple of overs of the day. Stumps were called just two balls after Bravo reached his 50, and the West Indies left the field knowing they needed 161 runs to win with 2 days of the match left.
