David Gower: Hello and welcome back all our viewers to The Third Man's Chat .SriLanka had pulled the match in their favour at one stage with some good hitting in the end but England stole the win by an excellent last over from G.Chapple on his debut .With me in the studio are David Lloyd, Michael Holding, Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton.

Well Nasser England won in a dramatic fashion what are your views on that?

N.Hussain: Well that was just terrific win for England not convincing one but they will have their confidence high after this win. SriLanka were favourites to win when it came to the last over just 12 required off 6 balls which was possible if R.Arnold would have stayed till the end.But G.Chapple did it in the pressure situation and won the match for England.
SriLankan top order once again failed as they played poor shots to some good bowling. They got the strat but they didn't went with it instead threw their wickets. U.Tharanga was excellect as he disturbed the rythm of Harmison completely by hitting 3 boundaries in his 1st over.Lets take a look at his Wagon Wheel .We can see that when the ball was pitched outside offstump he played through the cover region which caused Harmison to ball short of length and Tharanga was easily Hooking them for 4 .He batted well got runs on both the sides of the wicket .

M. Atherton: Good win for England but SriLanka was fought back well .Tharanga was brilliant in the start as played positively but Dilshab and Arnold developed a good partnership and then got SriLanka colse to victory.Dilshan was playing well .He got on top of Plunkett and Harmison and was hiiting over the top when the situation demanded.Look at his wagon wheel he got 5 boundaies in 14 balls and then chipped for 1's and 2's and was rotating the strike which is good sensible batting.

M.Holding: Well talking about England's bowling S.Mahmood was the most economical gave away just 18 runs in his 4 overs and also got a wicket .G.Chapple also bowled well .But Harmison and Plunkett we expensive and were struggling with their line and lenth .Harmison was bowling just stupidly.When he pitched up he was smahed for fours so he changed his line and then started bowling short and again went for runs. He should have bowled on the offstump line getting the ball in the corridoor of uncertainty. Look at his pitchmap he was not at all consistent and see the number of red dots.

D.Llyod : Harmison was bowling bad line but the debutant Glen Chapple was bowling perfect line and length and showed a perfect example for consistency.i thought that he will under tremendous pressure in his final over but he bowled beautifully and got the ball in the blockhole and bowled a fuller line. England were worried when he bowled that no ball which went for 6 but he came back strongly to win the match .

I. Botham : Thank You David. It was truly a great exciting match and England sneaked in in a nail biting finish.First i will like to call SriLanka's Captain Mahela Jayawardena.Well Mahela hard luck u just lost that in the end.

Mahela : Ya its really disappointing to lose when you are wiining it in the last over and then suddenly everything goes wrong .It was a good match in the end .Our batsmen tried their level best .Tharanga was briliant in the start and the good fightback by Dilshan and Arnold got us close to the target.

I. Botham: Good luck for the 5 match series .

I.Botham : Now i request the winning captain to come up and have a few words.Well Andrew won the first match as capatin how do u feel?

A.Strauss: I am really excited winning as captain gives a good feeling and also full credit to the boys .G.Chapple and Collingwood bowled superbly and Chapple was bowling to perfection in the last over and bowled that beautiful yorkers to get those wickets , Trescothick and Pieterson batted well and we reached to a good target and then our bowlers did the rest .

I.Botham : Thank Tou Andrew good luck for the 5 match series.

I.Botham : Well now the Man Of the Match award is selected by the commentry team and the match officials .It was tough to choose as Trescothick scored 50 and gave England the perfect start they wanted.Pieterson scored a rapid 48 off 33 balls.But todays man of the match award goes to G.Chapple for his excellent bowling and fisnishing with figues of 4-0-31-4. Well Glen congrajulations how do u feel being the Man of the Match on debut.

G.Chapple: Its a really good feeling winning the Man of the Match award in the very first match. It was tough to ball out there as it was helping the batsmen .I kept the ball in the right areas and kept my cool in the final over and we won . It a team effort the batsmen played well and got a big total on the board.
