David Gower : Hello and Welcome to The 3rd Man's Chat . We are live from the Gabba in Brisbane for the start of the 1st Ashes Test between Australia and England . The whole world is waiting for the start of the Ashes 2006-07 and now the wait is finally over as we are just few moments away from the start of the 1st test match of the Ashes 06-07 . Sky Sports has bagged the television rights for the Ashes and they have changed few things around with their technologies and presentation and the commentary team too. With me in the studio are Michael Holding, Mark Nikholas, Geoffrey Boycott and Ian Chappell. Lets hear from our cricketing experts about their views and opinions about todays match.Well Mark welcome to the show what do you think about this Ashes series and how competative it will be?
Mark Nicholas : The whole world is waiting for the Ashes this year and i cant wait for it to get started as well. The rest of the world want a battle as bloddy as the last one . Australia are playing with their full strength but England are with few new players and their team is younger when its compared to the experienced Australian side. There were few injury scare for the England team but then also they have regrouped and are still fighting as we saw in the Champions Trophy and are not giving it up . Australia on the other side are the wounded tigers who lost the Champions Trophy against India on the very last ball of the match . Certainly McGrath will be the most disappointed player as he was the bowler who bowled the last over and now he will be hoping to change things in this Ashes series. The Ashes means a lot to the players as well as the Australian and England fans . No battle is as intense as the Ashes . There are few mind games played by the Australian captain as he said that Monty will be under pressure but the big news for England is that M.Vaughan is back in the side and will captain the side as well. This is a big boost for England and they will be hoping to win this series but Australia will keep on fighting till the end as they want the Urn back . England will be having tough time in Australia as beating Australia in Australia is really the toughest task .
G. Boycott: I agree with Mark that England will be facing tough time in this Ashes . If you take a look at the squads then Australia are with full strength but England are missing few players due to injury . The hero with the ball in the last Ashes Simon Jones is missing from the list due to injury . Giles is back in the side but Monty is rated ahead of him and he is a promising bowler as well . Pietersen is the main player for England as he can destroy the Australian bowling attack with his aggressive batting and his ability to hit the ball hard and so is Andrew Flintoff. Vaughan is back so the Flintoff wont have to think about the captaincy now and will have to concentrate on his bowling and batting . I will love to see the battle between Warne-Pietersen and Ponting-Flintoff.
Ian Chappell : Well England will have to fight hard if they want to win this match . If we take a look at this 1st test match then both teams wont experiment too much and will play their best XI as winning the 1st match of the series puts loads of pressure on the opposition and they straight away go on the backfoot . Australia have the advantage as they are the home side and England will face some difficulties here but their team has lots of promising players as well. So this series is going to be competative.
David Gower : Thank You gentlemen for your wonderful expert comments. Time to take a short break when we come back we will take you live for the Pitch Report, the toss and few interesting stats from Michael Holding.
