David Gower : Hello and Welcome to The Tea Spot. England came back strongly in the match after the lunch session and now the pressure is on Australia as they lost 4 wickets with just 212 runs on the board . England have the upper hand in the match as the got 3 quick wickets in the 2nd session and all the wickets were important one's which consisted of the most important wicket of Australian captain Ricky Ponting. With me in the studio are Michael Holding,Tony Grieg and Ian Botham . Lets hear from our cricketing experts about their views and opinions about todays match.Well Michael what do u think about this 2nd session?

holding2iy.jpg
M.Holding: England are in a strong position in this match and who would have expected that England will start the first test match in this Ahses with such confidence . England bowlers are bowling well and their line and length has troubled the Australian batsmen. Andrew Flintoff who was smashed for runs before lunch, came back strongly in the 2nd session and got the important wicket of Ricky Ponting as the ball kept a bit low and it managed to clip the offstump . Ponting will find himself unlucky but then Martyn was involved in a run out . There was no need to take the single at that stage but they Monty did well in the field and then he bowled well to and got the wicket of Hussey as he was bowled around his legs. Just couple of more wickets after tea and then the match will be in the hands of England.

Tony Greig : Australian team will be in bit of shock after this session as they lost their 4 important players in 2 sessions of day 1. But it was not that Australia gave their wickets away it was that England were bowling nicely . Flintoff bowled well in the 2nd session and was troubling the batsmen and got rid of Ponting but then Monty was bowling superbly and was building the pressure from one end as he was not giving too many scoring oppourtunity. Finally he got the wicket of Hussey bowling around his legs . Monty has the bowling figures of 11-1-26-1. He bowled consistently on and around the offside and got the ball to turn into the left handers .The ball was not turning too much but due to his accuracy of pitching the ball in the right areas caused some trouble to the left handers.

Ian Botham : England are on top in this match and all they have to do is to pick couple of quick wickets so that they will have their command in this match and they should try to restrict Australia inside 300 or atmost 330 and they get a big score . On the other hand Australia still have Hayden at the crease with Clarke and still Gilchrist to follow .They still have a chance to get runs and the tailenders can bat too . Aussies are not out of the game yet and still the crucial final session of the day 1 will decide which way the match is going.

davidgower4hm.jpg
David Gower : Thank You gentlemen for your wonderful expert comments. Well as we promised the first person to answer the trivia question will get a change to come in the Tea Spot .
The Question was : Q. Name the former Australian captain who has his career best score of 200 runs in test matches with 32 centuries to his name .
A. Steve Waugh.
And the first member to answer it correctly is "treva". Welcome to the show treva you are the first winner of the trivia and first to enter the Tea Spot as well so enjoy your stay . Tony has few questions for you ;)

tonggreigcp1.jpg
Tony Greig : Welcome to The Third Man's Chat treva .You are a big supporter of England and now you are here at The Gabba supporting your team . Till now things were looking balanced but Monty took the important wicket of Hussey just before Tea which means that England are in the driver's seat. Do u agree with that treva?

trevafj5.jpg
Treva:Just like to say Tony, that it is lovely to be here watching the action! Considering the big wicket of Hussey going before tea I feel things are pretty even. Hayden is still battling and the score is not too bad. If England can get a few wickets in the evening session they will be on top. If a partnership is formed here though, then Aussies could be thinking of 450+.

tonggreigcp1.jpg
Tony Greig : Hayden survived a caught behind appeal when he was on 0 and now he is still playing on 84 looking to score a century here . How costly will that decision by Billy Bowden prove for England ?

trevafj5.jpg
Treva:Well if Hayden goes to make a big hundred it will be a very costly decision. If Hayden had gone the score could be at 150 odd for 5 or maybe worse. What Hayden needs to do is just make use of that decision, as we saw in the last Ashes series, the Australians didn't make use of the drop catches by England. Here's a stat for you, out of all of Kevin Pietersen's drops last Ashes (6 of them), the Australian batsman only added on average 17 more runs. Australia need to rectify that if they are going to win this time around!

holding2iy.jpg
M.Holding: At one stage Australia were looking stronger and runs were coming quite easily but wickets started to fall quickly after lunch and England are back in the match as Australia are on the backfoot with 212/4 . Now what tactics should England apply to get more wickets in the final session on the day ?

trevafj5.jpg
Treva:They should really attack the Australian batsman. Vaughan should use his 3 strike bowlers, Harmison, Flintoff and Panesar to really rip into the lower order. If they can restrict Australia's scoring opportunity's then they will get frustrated and hopefully make some rash shots.

bothwe9.jpg
Ian Botham :Hayden and Clarke are at the crease and still the dangerman Gilchrist is waiting for his turn to bat . Can these 3 batsmen take the game away from England ?

trevafj5.jpg
Treva:Yes of course. We have seen what Gilchrist has done in the past and he is one of the world's most dangerous batsman. But he is always vunerable to the ball back of a length outside offstump. He is also Flintoff's bunny and should be very carefull not too lash out against him. If Clarke and Hayden at the crease can build a partnership that can annoy England then Australia will finish the day on top.

holding2iy.jpg
M.Holding: Which was your best moment of this test match till now ?

trevafj5.jpg
Treva:The decision by Billy Bowden was up there but Monty's run out was brillaint. It gave England that lift they needed and to see a so heavily criticised fielder like Monty take a run out, is brilliant.

davidgower4hm.jpg
David Gower :Thanks for coming in the Tea Spot treva . Enjoy the Ashes and finally any views regarding the story and this show ?

trevafj5.jpg
Treva:Yes Thankyou David and I have to say the new overlay and presentation is truely exceptional. Sky Sports have really stepped it up a gear. I love the new competitions and the shows are great. Thanks for having me on the first 3rd Man's Chat: Tea Spot of the Ashes.
