England in deep trouble as Strauss departs

Strauss and Pietersen were looking confident after tea as they were picking up one's and two's and also picking up the odd boundary . Strauss was looking more confident than Pietersen as he resumed his innings and was looking forward to his century . Meanwhile Pietersen was kept quite by Warne and Ponting was applying more and more pressure on him by setting a good field and denying runs to Pietersen . But still Pietersen was managing to work the ball around for singles and both the batsmen were building a solid partnership .

Shane Warne then started to put the batsmen in all sorts of problem . The batsmen were kept guessing on each and every delivery which Warne bowled. First of all Pietersen was not getting easy runs and on top of that he was frustrated even more by Warne when Pietersen failed to get bat on ball on most of the occasions. Pietersen went for the big hits but he missed it on all occasions and was lucky to survive as the ball just missed the stumps of one occasion . Strauss however was lucky when he gloved a delivery which bounced out of the rough but there was no slip in place to catch that . But Warne was bowling the wrong-un's occasionally which was making life more difficult for the England batsmen.

After creating so many chances, Warne finally got his 1st wicket of this series and now he has moved another step closer to 700 test wickets. Strauss was looking for the cover drive but didn't pick the wrong-un bowled by Warne and the ball went straight in the hands of Ponting . Everything was well planned as Ponting was the only fielder standing on the offside inside the 30 yard circle and Warne invited Strauss to go for the drive who was disguised with the wrong-un . Strauss played well for his 81 in 119 balls with 7 boundaries and is very disappointed to miss his century.

With the fall of the 4th wicket, Collingwood joins Pietersen in the middle. England are really struggling with 139/4 and they are still trailing by 280 runs . Collingwood and Pietersen have to build a solid partnership here. Collingwood is a good test player as well who has started his test career positively with a good average and has a highest score of 186 against Pakistan .

Kevin Pietersen has made his intentions clear by smashing a boundary and a six of an over of M.Clarke . Pietersen has moved on to 41 off 103 balls with 2 boundaries and 1 six. Pietersen is playing slowly but now after smashing a six and a four of an over, one can expect more fireworks from Pietersen at the end of the day's play . Collingwood made a good start with 2 boundaries in 14 balls. The sun is setting and its getting dull at the moment but Ponting will take this advantage and will want more wickets from Warne and perhaps he may bring either Lee or McGrath in the attack for the final few overs. Difficult stage of the match as Pietersen and Collingwood has to survive till the end of day's play .

Not in a terrible position England, but looking to last out the last few overs and hope to not see the dreaded Hoggard in the evening :p

Great stuff Gamer :clap

Damn! Strauss gone after a great knock! I've noticed you put 139/1 on the screenie when it should have been 139/4 :)

England in slight trouble, but they still have KP at the crease, he is vital. A super little innings from Strauss, although he would have wanted to get 100.

Fantastic work!

Aussie really needed the wicket of Strauss . KP and Colly is still there so anything can happen . They need to pick up these 2 wickets as soon as possible. Great work Gamer :clap

Thanks for your wonderful replies . Updates on the end of the day's play coming up shortly . Stay tuned :).

England are in a bit of bother at the moment. They should keep thier heads down and play out session by session.

McGrath strikes before the end of the day's play

England lost another wicket in the form of Paul Collingwood before the end of the day's play . Glenn McGrath was brought back in the attack to pick up more wickets. It took just 3 balls for Glenn McGrath to provide the breakthrough for Australia as Collingwood went for the cover drive to a ball which was pitched just outside the off stump but he only managed to edge that away giving a simple catch to Martyn in the gully region. Not what England wanted at this stage of the innings as they already have lost 4 wickets and now Collingwood also went scoring just 20 runs.

Everyone thought that England will sent night watchman M.Hoggard in but still there were 10 overs left in the day's play as a result of which Andrew Flintoff came into bat . There is still batting left in this England side with Pietersen batting nicely looking for his 50, Flintoff who has just arrived and G.Jones who has the ability to bat well but the way Australian bowlers are bowling at the moment it will be very difficult for the England to score runs and keep their wickets in hand.

Pietersen was still there and was getting close to yet another half century in his test career. He was watching the ball carefully and was waiting for the bad deliveries and smashing them for runs. He had to work really hard for his runs because of some wonderful bowling by Warne and good thinking captaincy by Ponting. But now Pietersen targeted McGrath and was smashing him for boundaries . McGrath was not at all happy about that and was really frustrated as he was bowling well but whenever he over pitched Pietersen smashed him for fours through the cover region. Meanwhile Pietersen reached his half century and is still fighting to keep England in the match.

Everything went right for Australia on day 2 but just before the end of the day's play Stuart Clark created a big blunder by dropping a simple catch of Flintoff of the bowling off Warne. Flintoff went for the slog sweep but never got hold of it as he was playing against the turn and managed to get a top edge. The ball went high in the air and Stuart Clark was under it waiting for it but he dropped the simplest catch of the day. In international cricket one must take such simple catches. Today everything went wrong for Stuart Clark as he went for runs with his bowling and now dropped the important catch of Flintoff and that can prove very costly for Australia. At the end of the day's play England have score 209 runs for the loss of 5 wickets . Still Pietersen and Flintoff are not out and with G.Jones to follow England still can reach close to Australia's total .

England : 209/5 (58 overs) Trail by 210 runs.

K.Pietersen :67*(137) 7 Fours
A.Strauss :c R.Ponting b S.Warne 81(119) 7 Fours

Australia : 419/10 (107.4 overs)

A lot relys on KP and Freddie now for England to get somewhere near the Aussie's total. If they perform and Jones and the rest of the tail stick with them, I can see this game heading for a draw.

Excellent work Gamer!

Typical England really :p

Crumbling, scoring slowly, and KP doing all the work!

Well Done, gamer!
