Vaughan scores maiden double century as
England declare on 522

Everything went England's way in the first four session of the match. There was not much that the Aussies enjoyed apart from those 4 wickets but those wickets were overshadowed by the amount of runs which England scored. Before the lunch interval England were in a commanding position and Pietersen was batting aggressively but Australia made a solid comeback in the match by taking crucial wickets are regular intervals. The battle between Pietersen and Warne continued in the 2nd session of the day. Warne wanted Pietersen to go for his shots as a result of which there was no fielder on the leg side boundary and Warne was constantly bowling a leg stump line inviting Pietersen to go over the mid-wicket. However Pietersen was successful for the first time but then he tried to slog against the turn and only managed to get a top edge to give Symonds the easiest of the catches. Warne's tactics worked for Australia as they got the important wicket of the danger man Kevin Pietersen before he did much damage. Pietersen played well for his 45 runs but still England have some batting left to score 500.

The collapse
Vaughan was still batting nicely looking for his maiden double century but wickets were falling regularly from the other end. Collingwood who was finding it difficult to score runs against the pace of Brett Lee, lost his wicket when he tried to hook a fast bouncer only managing to give a simple catch to G.McGrath ay fine leg. Australia were back in the match with two quick wickets and Brett Lee did the job for his team once again with his fast and accurate bouncers. Collingwood only managed to score 14 runs off 49 balls.

Flintoff's 2nd duck in 3 innings
Andrew Flintoff continued his poor run with the bat and he was once again dismissed for a duck but this time it was M.Clarke who took his wicket. Clarke bowled a perfect yorker to Flintoff who was a bit late to pick that one but at the last moment he tried to get some bat on it. But it was too late as the ball went through the gate the stumps were broken. Flintoff stay was just for 4 balls and is having a poor run with the bat in this Ashes series. In the previous match at The Gabba, Flintoff lasted for 3 balls before he was dismissed for a duck by Warne.

Vaughan slams maiden test double century
England were 7 wickets down at this stage and Vaughan was running out of partners. Vaughan was getting closer to reach his maiden double century but from the other end wickets were falling quickly. Vaughan the took most off the strike and was fighting hard till against this Australian bowling attack. Finally the moment arrived when Vaughn came down the track and smashed Johnson for a four on the offside to register his maiden double century in test cricket surpassing his highest score of 197 against India in 2002. It's a great effort by the England captain to score a double century against the World Champions. This innings by M.Vaughan was truly sensational with masterful stroke play and brilliant shot selection throughout the innings. Just for a reminder that Vaughan is playing in his comeback test series after he was out of the side for months due to his knee injury.

Vaughan was finally dismissed after scoring 212 runs when he was trying to score at a quicker rate. It needed something special to dismiss Vaughan as Ponting took a brilliant catch diving to his left to end this superb innings by the England captain. The whole Adelaide crowd was giving a standing ovation to Vaughan just as he was making his way back to the pavilion.
