EXTRA INNINGS​

Mandira Bedi : Hello and welcome all our viewers from around the world to EXTRA INNINGS for the post match show of the ICC Champions Trophy 2006. Today we have all witnessed a great match between India and England which was actually a tensed match for both teams but in the end M.Kaif and M.Dhoni scored a big partnership for the 6th wicket and that decisive partnership won the match for India . With me in teh studio are two cricketing experts Navjot Singh Sidhu and G.Boycott.

N.Sidhu : Thats a great match a nail biter with some exciting finish in the end . The match was full of ups and downs for both teams at one stage England were in complete command with their batting while India came back strongly with a terrific response from Sachin Tendulkar but then Andrew Fintoff got England back in the match with couple of quick wickets but the Mohd.Kaif and Ms Dhoni got a match winning partnership which decided the match in India's favour. That parnership for the 6th wicket for India was the best of the match as both batsmen were under huge pressure and certainly they needed above run-a-ball but they made full use of the conditions as the ball was coming on the bat nicely and ever converting 1's in 2's mostly M.kaif who was quick with running between the wickets .

M.Kaif and M.Dhoni's 6th Wicket Partnership:

G.Boycott: Certainly good batting by India but England also played some good cricket as this the opener of the group stages and England have many positives with the bat as well as the ball . J.Lewis and Andrew Flintoff bowled well and Lewis should have been given the ball in the end instead of Harmison who is struggling with his bowling. Kevin Pietersen was brilliant with his batting today and the only man who fought till the end and helped England to get a big score .Pieterson scored 154 runs and that took at a quicker rate off just 132 balls and it was raining sixes all over the stadium . He is really a strong contender for the man of the match today.

India also responded strongly with Sachin Tendulkar scoring a century and got India back in the game after they lost two wickets early in the innings . Sachin's century was the on which gave a chance to India to win this one but he then lost his wicket abd we thought that England will win here but thanks to a good innings from M.Kaif in the end.

Ian Botham :Good Evening ladies and gentlemen .......Today we have all seen a big match first up as India won with some good batting by Kaif and Dhoni in the end but England were also good with their bowling and i can say that both the teams were evenly matched today..First of all I request England captain Andrew Flintoff to come forward please .

Well Freddie that was really a tough match you were just unlucky in the end .

A.Flintoff :Yeah we batted well with Kevin getting a big one and he was determined to get a big score here and then Lewis also was good with his bowling and Monty also bowled well but he was wicketess in the end. India is a tought side to play with they have good batting side and they showed that today and we were really targeting to get the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar but when we got his wicket the damage was already done but still we had a chance but in the end Kaif and Dhoni batted superbly

Ian Botham : And how important was the catch of mohd.Kaif which was dropped by Monty when Kaif was on just 4 runs.

A.Flintoff : Certainly that was the most important catch of the match and Monty failed to hang on but it was all pressure situation and we all have dropped crucila catches in pressure situations and Monty is just playing his 1st ODI but he took a good diving catch to dismiss Pathan at the start of the innings and he bowled well to ...was a good debut for him today. .

Ian Botham : Good luck for the next match Freddie .Big one for you as Aussies are waiting...

A.Flintoff :Thanks Ian.

Ian Botham : Now i will like to call the winning captain Rahul Dravid on stage................Well Rahul congrajulations but your team was good in batting today

R.Dravid :Yes we were good with out batting today but we were struggling with bowling today as Munaf got breakthroughs early on but the Pietersen came and went after the bowling which was really difficult for our bowlers to keep him quite .

Ian Botham :Also what about the ending part of the match.

R.Dravid :Yeah in the end it was crunch situaltion as we had the last recognized batting pair and after that the tail was starting but Kaif and Dhoni did the job for us and certainly that partnership and Sachin's innings is a real confident booster for us

Ian Botham :Well Rahul Good Luck for the next match .

R.Dravid :Thank You very much Ian .

Ian Botham :Now the Man Of The Match award is choosen by the commentary team and the match refree and believe me that it was a really tough decision to make .Sachin Tendulkar got the century for India and Kaif did a gret job with the bat and writing India's victory but the main role was played by Kevin Pietersen who played a big innings of 154 off just 132 and got a big score for England and he is todays Man Of The Match.

Congrajulation Kevin for excellent batting performance and how do u feel after this knock ?

K.Pietersen: I love to bat in Indian conditions and really love the abtting conditions here and enjoyed the crowd who appreciated my knock and enjoyed my sixes.

Ian Botham :And what was going in ur mind as u were losing ur partners at the other end.

K.Pietersen: yes that was a big factor and was playing my natural game and keeping most of the strike and the thanks to Monty who survived for the last 5 overs.
