davidgower4hm.jpg
David Gower:Hello and welcome to the 2nd semifinal of the Champions Trophy 2006 between SriLanka and Australia . The winning team will join India in the finals of the Champions TRophy to be played in Mumbai. SriLanka are enjoying a wonderful undefeatable run in this tournament. Dont forget that they are playing right from the qualifying stages and are yet to be beaten. All the players are in top form but today they are playing against a high quality Australian side . Aussies were beaten by England and then they shadowed their defeat by a terrific win against India. This is going to be a tough contest today . To great teams playing for their place for the finals.Lets take a look at the match conditions and toss for todays match.

Match Conditions
M.Atherton :This pitch has something for both batsmen and bowlers . Runs will come but if the bowlers will pitch the ball in the right place then wickets can come easily.Team batting first should bowl first and utilize the moisture in the pitch early on.

The Toss
Ian Botham :Australia have won the toss and they decided to bowl first .

SriLankan Innings

SriLankan openers have done well right through this tournament . They gave good opening starts in the whole tournament and Sanath Jayasurya is in destructive form as he played aggressievly right through this tournament.but today SriLankans were off to a bad start . First they lost Tharanga for just 3 runs and then the captain Jayawardena departed scoring just 8 runs.Jayasurya was still there fighting his way out in the middle but he needed someone to stay with him and build a partnership. But nothing was going right for SriLanka as Sangakkara and Atapattu departed cheaply.SriLanka were in all sorts of trouble but there came aray of hope for them.Sanath Jayasurya and T.Dilshan got a very good partnership for SriLanka and helped them to get the scoreboard ticking over. Sanath Jayasurya score 57 runs before he was caught behind while Dilshan score match saving 46. In the end the tailenders chipped in with some useful contributions but finally SriLanka were bowled out for just 207 runs and it was indeed difficult to defend this small total.

Jayasurya to the rescue

Australian Innings
It was a small total to chase for the Aussies and certainly they were not going to miss out on this occasion . Gilly who scored magnificant century in the last match against India continued his good form along with Watson. They started to get a partnership which was a onmious sign for the Lankans. They tried hard to get the wicket . Tried out every bowling combinations they can but nothing was working for them . Gilly was just scoring his boundaries.Even Murali was unsuccessful to get the wicket. Finally Fernando got the wicket of Watson but the damage was already done . Watson scored 52 runs. Gilly reached his century and it was his 2nd century in 2 matches.Australia went on to win the match easily in the end by losing just 3 wickets.Australia enter the final of the Champions Trophy 2006 along with India.

Woah, Gilly adds to the one he scored against India. Boy isnt he in some form!!
207 was never going to be enough and the Aussies paced their run chase perfectly. Sri Lanka however have had a good tournament and Sanath has been in their main man.

Replay of the World Cup final, its gonna be awesome. I think the Aussies will win...again.

He is a strong contender for the Player of the Tournament.

Yeah but i am still thinking which team to control for the finals . Perhaps i should do a toss for that .;)

m_vaughan said:
Maybe you should bat or bowl (any one) for both.

will members agree with this ? Ahh if England would have been there in the finals then there was no tension to select which team to control.;)

Interesting final going to be played!
Just control either both teams for batting or both teams for bowling (whichever you are better at :))

Great presentation as always gamer :clap

Thanks Guys for your wonderful comments .

Coming Up : The ICC Champions Trophy Final between India and Australia.

Will Gilly smash the Indian bolwers again , will Indian bowlers bowl out the mighty Aussies , will Sachin play the innings of his lifetime or will G.McGrath and Brett Lee rip apart the Indian lineup ? Stay Tuned as the action from the final match of the Champions Trophy 2006 is coming up next.

Final Match :India v Australia, Live from Mumbai

davidgower4hm.jpg
David Gower: Hello and welcome all our viewers around the world to The Third Man's Chat for the Final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2006. It has been a long journey since we have been in the Champions Trophy 2006. It all started with the qualifying stages were SriLanka and West Indies qualified to the group stages knocking out Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. The we saw some drama in the group stages and finalli India, Australia, SriLanka and Pakistan went on to play the semis and now today we have the big final bewteen India and Australia. It will be a really tough contest as India are the host and have lost just 1 match but that was against the Aussies and Australia have played some fantastic cricket in this Champions Trophy but they were beaten by England but then fought back nicely. Michael Holding and Nasser Hussain are there in the studio with me . Well Michael a big one today India-Australia finals what do u think about todays match.

holding2iy.jpg
M.Holding: Yeah certainly a big match for both the teams. India did well on reaching the finals and are the favourites to win as they are the hosts but the opposition are Aussies who are the toughest team to beat . Australia have never won the Champions Trophy and now they will try hard to win this one. Indian team i think is not so good when it comes to the finals as we have seen in the past that they crumble under pressure. Last time we saw the World Cup 2003 finals between India and Australia and Australia murdered the Indian bowling attack and Ponting played a captains knock . That was marvelous but its a different game today and both the teams will have different strategies for todays match.

hussain6nb.jpg
N.Hussain:I think Australia have the advantage here as they won against India in the group stages . That will be a decisive factor as Indians know they have already lost to Aussies but the captain is the key here. He should get the batting lineup correct . Watson and Gilly are doing a superb job for the Aussies but for India Sehwag is not scoring runs. Tendulkar is in superb form and he will be the kep today. Indian bowlers will have to work really hard and their main aim will be to get the wicket og Gilchrist.Lets see how this match develops.

Mandira Bedi : Thank You David . Welcome to Extra Innings where you are going to enjoy in-depth analysis of the Champions Trophy with all the action and excitement with expert analysis for out great cricketing expert Navjot Singh Sidhu and also one of the greatest player of England Geoffrey Boycott . Today we are here for the exciting finals of the Champions Trophy 2006 between India and Australia ( woo hoo !) and India are the favourites to win as they are the hosts.

sidhuau0.jpg
N.Sidhu :Both the teams fought their way to the finals and now they have to combine all their hard work together and give more than 100 % in this finals. Tendulkar is the key for India if he plays well then India will be in a good position.Kaif is also in good form and Dhoni should bat a number 3 . Mr.Chappell dont try to do experiments today as its a big one so dont try to send Pathan at number 3 allow him to concentrate on his bolwing.

boycsxs9.jpg
G.Boycott:Well I think Australia have the advantage as they have Gilly opening their batting. Check out his last 2 innings he scored 2 back to back centuries and is in top form . India have Tenduklar vut when you check his record in the finals its not good. India have never performed well in the finals of any tournament they seem to lose their concentration for some reason and if u look back at the World Cup finals similar thing happened . Indian bowlers were smashed all over the place by Gilchrist and Ponting . Expect something similar today.

mandirahs5.jpg
Mandira Bedi :Ian Botham is ready with the pitch report so lets take you live down on the pitch with Ian Botham.

Ian Botham: Thanks Mandira .Well this is a good pitch for the finals . There is a bit of grass near the good length area from the pavillion end but if we go down the other end we can hardly see any grass and thats were the spinners will come into picture. The pitch will get on the slower side as the match progreses but bowling first wont be a bad idea here and try to get wickets early on but batting 2nd is also not going to easy . Few problems for the captains but i think batting first will be wiser.
picthreporteq5.jpg

mandirahs5.jpg
Mandira Bedi :Ian Botham with the pitch report well Navjot what do you think how crucial will be toss going to be.

sidhuau0.jpg
N.Sidhu :I think team winning the toss should bat first and play well in the first few overs and watch out for the swing .

mandirahs5.jpg
Mandira Bedi :Thanks Navjot . We will take a short break here on Extra Innings when we come back we will take you live for the toss with the two captains and M.Atherton........Stay Tuned :)
