India v Pakistan, Live from Chandigarh

davidgower4hm.jpg
David Gower:Hello and welcome to the 1st semifinals of the Champions Trophy and surely its between two greatest rivals of cricketing history India and Pakistan. When it comes to semifinals which is ofcourse a knockout match both the teams give their best . Both the teams have performed well in this tournament and both have played 3 and won 2 before entering the semifinals. Lets take a look at the match conditions and toss for todays match.

Match Conditions
M.Atherton :This pitch has something for both batsmen and bowlers . Runs will come easily as the outfield is quick but spinners are most likely to get wickets. Team batting first should bat first and score quick runs.

The Toss
Ian Botham :India have won the toss and they decided to bat first .

Indian Innings

The openers struggled a bit in front of the seamers . Both Sachin Tendulkar and Sehwag were slow to score . Perhaps Sehwag was trying to regain his lost form and Sachin was trying to get his eye in as he is important batsman if India have to win this match. The openeing start was slow but steady and soon it took the pace. Both Sachin and Sehwag were scoring at a decent rate now and scoreboard was ticking along nicely .But Sehwag lost his wicket due to rash batting .He went after a wide outswinger from Naved and only managed to get the outside edge and K.Akmal took a good catch. That was the 1st breakthrough for Pakistan and now they had a chance to get back in the match.Dhoni was once again sent up the order to score quickly . He was trying his best to score quickly and was successful for a small extent but was run out on 20 runs. Soon Tendulkar was caught behind by K.Akmal off the bowling of S.malik on 41 . Tenduklar worked hard for his 41 and was unlucky to miss out on his half century. In the middle part of the innings the spinners started creating trouble for the Indian batsmen. Dravid and Yuvraj departed quickly even after getting good starts. India started losing wickets quickly but in the depth Kaif and Agarkar developed a nice partnership and Kaif scored 51 runs in 44 balls and got the score past 250. At the end of the innings India scored 264/8 in 50 overs .

Much needed 50 from Kaif

Pakistan Innings
All Pakistan needed was a good opening partnership but they were unlucky as I.Farhat was run out for just 9 runs . Something that Pakistanis were not looking for. But then the partnership started developing between Hafeez and Younis Khan. That partnership was really frustrating India but Pathan was bowling nicely and was giving less runs which was getting Pakistan under pressure. They started to feel the urgency to score quick runs. Indians started creating pressure from both end as Pathan was bowling a tight line and Harbhajan was bowling nicely from the other end. Finally India got the wicket of Hafeez who played well for his 44. Younis Khan scored a wonderful 50 and was playing a good captains role. But he was soon bowled by Agarkar for 57. Yousuf was run out for 24 while Malik departed for 20 . But the most important wicket which India took was of S.Afridi . He was looking dangerous and smashed 2 sixes but was trapped in front by Agarkar. Agarkar was bowling well and the collapse started for Pakistan . A.Razzaq was there fighting for the victory but there was no support for him from the other end .Pakistan were bolwed out for 232 in 47.3 overs . It was a good contest between both the teams and India came out with victory.Pakistan showed good fighting spirit but they find themselves unlucky losing in the semifinals.India enter the finals of the Champions Trophy 2006
