Australia have won the toss and elected to bat first .

mandirahs5.jpg
Mandira Bedi : Michael Atherton is there on the pitch with the two captains for the toss and it will be an interesting one.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ath5yd.jpg
M.Atherton : Thank You Mandira ......The crowd is in action they are all waiting to get the final match on it way so are the two captains R.Dravid and R.Ponting . Dravid tosses the coin .....tails is the call from Ponting and it comes down as tails.....Australia have won the toss .Well Ricky congrajulations on winning the toss whats your decision .

128zz5.jpg
R.Ponting : We will bat first. The pitch is good for batting and outfield is good too so we will try to get quick runs on the board in the start and then after we get the momentum we will score more in the depth .Also while bowling in the next half the pitch will be on the slower side a bit so it will be difficult to score .

ath5yd.jpg

M.Atherton :And what about your team?

128zz5.jpg
R.Ponting : No change from the last game we are going with the same team and same batting lineup .

ath5yd.jpg

M.Atherton :And what score are you looking for?

128zz5.jpg
R.Ponting : Well the pitch is good for batting but we will try to get over 250 probably 270-280 if we bat well.

ath5yd.jpg
M.Atherton : Well good luck for the match Ricky.

128zz5.jpg
R.Ponting : Thank you .

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ath5yd.jpg
M.Atherton : Well Rahul lost the toss disappointed with that ?

dravidtd4.jpg
R.Dravid :No not at all this is a good track for cricket. It good for batting as well as for bowling . So we will try to restric Australia somewhere aorund 240 and then we will have a chance to win this one..

ath5yd.jpg
M.Atherton : What about your side ?

dravidtd4.jpg
R.Dravid : We are going in with one extra batsman so Munaf Patel misses this match as he is not 100 % fit so we decided to rest him and S.Raina comes in the side and he is a good fielder as well..

ath5yd.jpg
M.Atherton : Well good luck for the match Rahul .

dravidtd4.jpg
R.Dravid : Thank You.

ath5yd.jpg
M.Atherton: Back to you Mandira.
mandirahs5.jpg

NICE COIN TOSS there
good decision to bat first I guess
hope they will score a big total keep on gamer

Stuff Gamer this is terrific Go The Aussies! hopefully Gilly'll get a big century like the last couple of matches

Nice Even Start To The Match

Australia started their innings slowly as the ball was swinging around and both Sreesanth and Pathan started bowling nicely with the new ball. Gilchrist didnt try to blast away from the start as he knew that this is an important match and it wont be wise to lose wickets early on so both Gilchrist and Watson decided to work the ball around in the start and started to look for singles and were hitting the odd boundaries. Indians were good in their field and were atheletic in the infield and were not giving easy runs to the Aussies . That brought some pressure to the Aussies and Watson mate a mistake. He went for a drive off a slower delively by Sreesanth and failed to keep it down and it went straight to Harbhajan Singh at covers. It was dream start to India as they saw Watson walking back by just scoring 9 runs.
Watson departs
207yr3.jpg

After the dismissal of Watson , Australian captain Ricky Ponting joined Gilchrist in the middle and now the experience was going to count .Pathan was not in the greatest of forms and Sreesath is a young bolwer but he has performed well in this Champions Trophy but now they were about to ball to two world class batsmen . Gilly suddenly changed his gear and started hitting the bowlers for boundaries. Suddenly things started changing for Australia and boundaries started to come quickly thus getting the run rate up. Gilchrist started scoring through the offside most of the time and fielders had no chance to stop the ball as it was timed to perfection . That shows Gilly is in top form after scoring 2 consecutive centuries in his last 2 matches. R.Dravid has to wear his thinking cap now as Gilchrist is starting to score quickly and now he has to save the important runs .
Gilchrist timing the ball perfectly
206ub1.jpg

R.Ponting was facing a hard time out there . Sreesanth was causing all troubles for him . Sreesanth bowls with a straight seam and the ball swings away from the batsman after pitching . Ponting missed twice while going for the offdrive and once missed the ball completely while trying to hook . Ponting was eager to get the bat on the ball and this might cost his wicket . The next ball he timed one to perfection but Yuvraj Singh dived to his right and stopped the ball which added to Pontings frustration.
Frustrated Ponting

Now Australia are going along nicely as Gilchrist smashed Sreesanth for a huge six and Ponting has scored 3 boundaries and looks like Australia are getting in the grove and score is ticking along nicely . India should breakthis little partnership soon.

Gilly,Martyn departs . India on top

The partnership was building for Australia and things were looking difficult for India till Gilchrist was there . He was smashing the ball to each and every corner of the ground and runs were coming easily for them. Indians were trying hard to cut out the runs. The third man was brought squarer so that Gilchrist had to work the ball through the covers if he had to score a boundary on the offside. Sreesanth was bowling nicely and came back for his 2nd spell. Gilchrist's eyes lit up when he saw a ball pitched up outside the offstump and went for the drive on the offside . His intentions were to clear the ball over the infield but the ball went straight in the hands of Tendulkar. Gilchrist was gone scoring vital run-a-ball 44 runs. Now India has a big chance to comeback in this match.

D.Martyn was the new batsman for Australia . Now Ponting and Martyn started to get a move on . Ponting was well settled now and Martyn had a few problems as he played and missed but from then he was batting with confidence and Australia started to build a partnership . Ponting and Martyn were timing the ball to perfection and and were finding the gaps with easy . But Agarkar was bowling a good line and length too but when he slightly overpitched both the batsmen got on top of that delivery and smashed it for boundaries. Harbhajan was brought in the attack and straight away Ponting smashed him for huge six as well. These were good signs for Australia as runs were coming thick and fast .
Partnership Developing

But India were determined not to give up . Bhajji bowed a great doosra and Martyn failed to pick it up and went for the sweep shot and only managed to get the top edge . The ball was high in the air and Sehwag was down under it waiting for the ball to come down. The ball was skied but Sehwag didnt lose his concentration and took a well judged catch. Harbhajan got the wicket of Martyn who scored 26 runs and suddely Australia lost 3 wickets . India are looking dangerours and now spinners are bowling in tandom Harbhajan from 1 end and Sachin from other

Game is going in a balanced way! Bowlers shd get rid of Aussie skipper soon!

Big couple of wickets for the Inidans, if Ponting keeps on going the way hes going and Hussey just plays himself in... Australia could still be at a big score

Ponting departs , Clarke living dangerously

After losing the vital wicket of Adam Gilchrist, Australia needed someone to start at the wicket for a long time and get the scoreboard ticking along. The job was done by R.Ponting who is playing an anchor role and had difficulties in the start but then batted nicely and timed the ball to perfection . He reached his 50 in 75 balls but the conditions to bat were difficult and Indian bowlers were bowling an accurate line and fielding was good too. Ponting showed a gutsy performance with the bat scoring his 50 which consist of 7 fours and 1 six but now he has to concentrate more and has to bat out till the end of the innings.
Ponting's Half-Century
214bu9.jpg

But things were not going according to Australia's plan . both Harbhajan and Tendulkar were bowling superbly and batsmen were facing difficult time out there coping with the spin . Bhajji was turning the ball nicely and he confused Ponting with his doosra . But Tenduklar was turning the ball even more. Ponting decided that its difficult to score against Harbhajan so he decided to go after the bowling of Sachin . He tried once and succeeded as he smashed Sachin for a six . In next few deliveries he once again tried for a big shot but only managed to get the top edge and it went straight to Raina. A silly shot costed Ponting's wicket but he played well scoring 66 runs with 8 Fours and 2 Sixes.
Tendulkar strikes
212ox9.jpg

Now with two new batsmen at the crease Indians were creating pressure on both the batsmen. Full credit went to Dravid as he was setting a good tight field for both Hussey and Clarke . Australia needed to up the temp but Hussey and Clarke were not allowed to do so as they were finding it difficult to score against the spin . They decided to pick up singles and kept on rotating the strike which was wisest thing to do . But Clarke was living dangerously as he he swept Harbhajan and called for 2 runs straightaway but the fielder was Agarkar was slower than the two batsmen so Clarke called for the 3rd run and was running towards the danger end and the throw was right on top of the bells and the 3rd umpire came in the picture and it seemed that Clarke was short . But when TV replays were seen it was found that Clarke just managed to drag his bat inside the crease and survived .

But it was not over yet, Aussies were taking risk by taking quick singles and converting the 1's in 2's . Next over Hussey just playedwith soft hands and batsmen went for a quick single . Kaif was quick to get field the ball and released the ball quickly as well . Clarke was again running at the danger end and managed to dive in the crease at the last moment . 3rd Umpire was called again and this time too Clarke survived thanks to the dive.

Nicely poised at this stage.
Austalia need at least 270 to compete with India's batting line up.
