Chairman's XI: 258 All Out after 44 Overs

Giles to the rescue as England are given a mountain to climb:

The Chairman's XI have set England a good total to chase down which works out at 5.16 an over. England are definately capable of reaching the total if they work hard and dont lose too many quick wickets. The Chairmans XI really raced of to a great start, Gough and Harmison really took a battering after the opening partnership racked up 65 runs. Gilchrist took it upon himself to really get at both seamers and the England camp became demoralised, often losing their line and seeing the ball fly away to the boundary or keeping 5 dot balls then overstepping the mark and seeing it go for a four. The breakthrough came after 10 overs when the ball was tossed to Freddie Flintoff to produce and produce he did, hiss first delivers induced a rare thin edge which had Gilchrist's heart in his mouth, it was however put down by Jones and they ran the single, the seocnd ball was a Flintoff special, it pitch in line with middle and off and made the batman play a tight defensive shot which in turn left the offstump unguarded, the ball seamed away and it was lifted out of the ground as big fred got mobbed, a wonderfull delivery, Gilchrist got his just deserts in the next over as he hammered one away for four and the tried to sneak his half century, Ashley Giles had other ideas as an acurate throw from him saw the batsman just short of his ground.

Freddie celebrates after claiming Damien Martyn's Off Stump:

Langer and Marsh put on a usefull parnership and snatched a bagfull of runs from the bowling of Anderson and Flintoff but it was eventually the ever dependant Ashley Giles who dragged England away from an embarasing and heavy defeat by picking up 6 wickets, the first of which could not have come at a better time. The Aussie team looked like they were going to amass a huge total before Giles came on to stem the flow, picking up a wicket after two balls, and an important one at that, on a pitch that was really seamer friendly Gilo managed to extract just enough turn to trouble the batsmen, the first ball was pitched rather full and nearly took the edge and the second was short and clipped the top edge after Langer tried the square cut, it was to wide for jones and Harmison at second slip took a wonderfull diving catch. This fired him up as next over he had three missed chances in the field, one by Jones and two by Trescothick, he eventually found the perfect length in his last over, he left with a bang taking a wicket with his last ball. A bouncer that kept low bottom edged to James Anderson who caught a looping one with ease to dismiss Marsh.

Justin Langer cuts one through the off side on his way to a battling 47:

Campbell smashed Giles for a surprising six then got himself ran out trying to come back for two after flicking one to the leg side, he looked dissapointed as he left the field. Bradd Hogg who should really know how to play spin stuggled for a long time and battled to 23 before the pressue built and he lobbed one to Darren Gough who doesent drop many. Worthington was bowled for 8 after Giles got one to turn the other way and crashed into middle stump and Angel dragged one onto leg stump from a cut shot, very unlucky. Hussey was the last to go as he poked one straught to Michael Vaughan at mid on, a very dissapointing end to what could have been a record breaking score.

Charman's XI Scorecard:

The Chairmans XI dominated the England quickies on a very green pitch where the ball was expected to dart around, Gough and Harmison found a good line but couldnt hit the seam and Anderson hit the seam but with terrible accuracy, all three were punished. Flintoff was really on the game, firing in all sorts of lengths and getting the ball to seam away from and in towards the batsman, Giles was the real man of the innings for England showing why he is one of the worlds best wrist spinners by getting some turn from a poor spinning pitch and with a ball that didn't aid him, he got stuck in when the others didnt and deserves praise. England will need a quickfire start in their innings, its a big ask for Strauss but a big score from him is needed as he is Englands form batsman.

Good work mate. I stated the same tour a while ago and i had the exact same batting conditions. I did a report in the tutsi thread you can view my bowling here

And my batting here

Seam bowlers were mostly your main outlet for wickets, it just wasnt working for me with them so Giles was a godsend after thinking about leaving him out in place of Hoggard, what a descision that turned out to be, ive nearly finished Englands innings and it isnt even a close contest surprisingly....

I dont know if it is a problem or what but the images take while to upload.

they seem to be alright for me, just bear with them, there worth the wait, especially the one with Freddie!!!

Chairman's XI: 258 All Out after 44 Overs

England: 259/3 after 34.1 overs

Strauss:
132*
Flintoff: 21*

England win by 7 wickets.

Super Strauss heads England victory:

Andrew Strauss played a fantastic one day innings as he lead England to a memorable win, okay it might have only been against a tour team but it was a tour team that included Adam Gilchrist, Damian Martyn Justin Langer and Bradd Hogg, that was no small feat for England with a high total chased down in a very small amount of overs, Trescothick played a wonderfull support innings with Strauss which set the ball rolling and the key thing was that none of the batsmen went cheaply.

Michael Vaughan drives through the covers on his way to a dissapointing 19 from 17 balls:

Englands opening partnership was the key to victory at Lilac Hill, both men knew there jobs, Strauss was very much the aggressor and was racking up lots of runs by hitting the boundary often, Trescothick on the other hand was looking for a long stay at the crease, he was taking the singles instead of the boundarys and as it turned out it was Strauss who ended up batting out the innings, but taking nothing away from Marcus Trescothick who was crucial to the cause, the Aussie bowlers really were frustrated as at each end was a different obstacle to face, Strauss was putting anything wide away and anything straight or full was flick down to long leg and Trescothick was finding singles from nothing.

Tresco's opening partnership paved the way for England but he fell short of a half century on 42:

The breakthrough finally came for the Chairmans XI brought on the spinners, Trescothick struggled with his timings and nearly dragged on twice as the pressure built, he handn't scored runs for quite a few balls and when he finally decided to go for the big one and smash it out of the park he just missed and found himself stumped by the ever aware and lightning fast Gilchrist who looked long and hard at Tresco as he left the field, a sign of things to come? Micheal Vaughan joined Strauss at the crease for a short stay which included 3 well struck fours from some very tight spin bowling before he lost his wicket, he tried to flick a leg spin bowler to the leg side and paid the price as the ball nipped back and left his off stump leaning back. Solanki came in and made the same score as his captain before he hammered one to marsh off the bowling of Hogg, England were still sitting pretty though with Stauss in and well estabalished.

Man of the match Strauss celebrates his century and ended on 132no from 108 balls:

The last perosn the aussies wanted to see strutting out onto the pitch after taking some good quick wickets was Andrew Flintoff but on he came, first ball, six, second ball, four, third ball, four, Freddie meant Business and it didn't take him long with the accompanyment of Strauss to knock off a good win for the England boys, Flintoff ended on 21 and Strauss on 132, a career best ODI innings which Eclipses his highest of 100 and just edges his 127 for Middlesex. England look forward to their next match with high hopes.

I think its fair to say that the Chairman's XI got a nice hard kick on their back side. Great innings there from Andrew Strauss. I do expect a lot from the Somerset lad in this tour.

Good start to the tour, and keep up the good work mate.

England steam roll Western and Southern Australia

England beat Western Australia by an innings and 36 runs

The aussies won the toss and put England in to bat on a normal pitch with the sun in the sky, it turned out to be a very bad decision as they racked up a massive 435/7d with Andrew Strauss top scoring and falling just short of his second century in two matches at 94, followed by Andrew Flintoff who scored 83 and Graham Thorpe and 79. Western Australia were bowled out for 229 and 170 respectively with Harmison taking 8 wickets during the two innings.

England beat Southern Australia by an innings and 123 runs

England opted to bowl on a very green track which was a difficult sufrace for the aussies to mount a score on, they were wiped off for 196 in the first and a miserable 104 in the second, Harmison and Hoggard grabbed 9 wickets each with Andrew Flintoff and Jimmy Anderson getting the other two, Strauss got even closer to another Century as he wracked up 96 to help England onto 423 all out which was enough to finish the match.

Two comprehensive victories for England there. I know, it was against domestic teams, but the margin of victory is large enough to send a message to the Australian team- "We are ready, and we are coming for you next!"

Great stuff harmy! Looking forward to the tests w/ aussi's though lol!hope vaughny and g jonesy do well!

Ive started the second televised match against Queensland, they lost an early wicket but have recovered and are on 69/1 after being put in to bat.
