England Vs Queensland:

After a promising start to the tour England face a major threat in the shape of Queensland, one of Australias finest county sides, Michael Kasprowicz is the main danger with the ball taking his fair share of wickets at International level, England could face their first real challenge after easing past the Chairman's XI, Western Australia and Southern Australia.

Micheal Vaughan lost the toss and will be bowling first, it wont really make a difference either way on this pitch though, it will take spin from the start and the cracks in the pitch will become more extreme as the match wears on, taking that into account England only have one mainstream spinner in the squad and that is Ahshley Giles, Vaugnie can turn his arm over but look for the majority of the spin to come form Giles.

England will just take this at a steady pace and use it as a bowling exercise for the Aussies as many of the Test Match pitches are under these conditions and heat, Steve Harmison, Mathew Hoggard and Jimy Anderson will rotate and one end while Ahely Giles does the bulk of the bowling at the other.

Day 1:

Chairman's XI:

England: 2/5

England Quickies save the day after Nash performs:

Englands pace attack worked hard for there captain today, the three mainstream seamers (Harmison, Hoggard and Anderson) picked up all 10 wickets for 1's and 0's, all except that of Nash who made a battling and well deserved 80* batting at number 6. The dat started well with Harmison and Hoggard both keeping the runs down in their first spell's, the openers struggled to find their feet after searching lengths by Harmison and teasing outswingers from Hoggard. The first wicket was that of Maher for 12. Harmison opened his wicket taking account with a superb ball angled accross and nipping away, he played straight and a thick edge went to Graham Thorpe at 3rd slip, the new batsmen got a single and then Kruger wne tto an identical dismissal, this time the ball nipped back and thin edges to Jones who took a comfortable catch.

Hoggard takes his first wicket Love goes for 13:

Hoggard got in on the act and found himself on a hatrick in his 9th over, the first ball of the over was dispatched to the boundary, the second was a perfect outswinger, tempting Love into the shot and then taking the edge as it nipped away, the third was a bouncer which was defended high and was taked well by a diving Vaughan at 3rd slip, the hatrick ball was an inswinging yorker which beat the bat and obliterated the stumps, it was however a no ball. No matter though as Harmison picked up the lucky man next over.

Trescothick is bowled all over the place 2nd ball:

Nash entered the crease and he and Seccombe looked good untill Anderson was brought into the attack, he dismissed Secombe with his first ball and Noffke with his second, the third was defended but the fourth was nicked to Vaughan at 3rd slip by Kasprowicz, three wickets and no runs came from Jimmy's first over, unfortunately he was unable to follow up with any more wickets but no matter, Hoggard was on hand to mop up the tail dismissing Dawes for 5 and Brant for 1.

After a fantastic performace with the ball England were forced to bat for an over before the end of the days play which proved fatal for them, Strauss played the first ball through the covers for a single and Trescothick defended the second, the third one nipped back between bat and pad and Tresco had no chance, the stumps were everywhere and Michael Kasprowicz was exstatic, Vaughan came in with the intention of batting out the last three balls, so much for that, he left the first one and it went for four byes, the second was defended, the third and last ball of the day was driven back down the ground and to everyones surprise (including mine!) Vaughan began to run, he nearly made it and the descison was reffered to the thrid umpire but it wasnt good for England, they have a hard task ahead of them...

Day 2:

Chairman's XI:
197 All out

England: 232 All Out

England lead by 35 going into the 2nd Innings:

Jones 91 saves England blushes:

Young wicket keeper Geraint Jones kept his cool as English wickets tumbled all around him on the second day of what could be a hard fight for his team. Strauss and Thorpe started the day positively and they added a fair few runs to their overnight totals, then it all went wrong as Kasprowicz was brought back into the attack and dismissed both men in the same over! Thorpe tried to flick one through the leg side and the ball nipped into his legs and through the gap completely uprooting leg stump, clever bowling by the quickie. Flintoff got off the mark first ball and Kasprowicz pelted Strauss with three bouncers in a row, all of which hit him square on, the young lad set himself a bit wider of the stumps ready to clout the next bouncer away through the onside, it wasnt a bouncer however, it was a yorker, a yorker that was too good for Strauss and seemingly Englands only hope had faded.

Flintoff on his way to a fighting 44:

cricket200420050122203241961mp.png

Collingwood didnt trouble the scorers as he reached 0 before being trapped LBW by Kasprwoicz, a full straight ball that nipped into the right hander and was just going on to his off stump, all the England faces on the balcony and in the crowd looked glum, enter Geraint Jones, his stroke play was fantastic, he waited the balls out and picked of the bad ones claiming quick ones and twos allong the way, his inninsg of 91 included 12 fours and 2 sixes, he and Flintoff shared a crucial 6th wicket stand of 101 before the pressure of the slower bowlers built on Flintoff and he was enticed into going over the top only to see the ball miss the bat and hit the stumps.

Jones shows the bat as he reaches 50 on his way to a patient 91 from 178 balls:

None of England Tailenders offered much help to Jones who decided to go it alone in the last 10-15 overs smashing anything on off stump and flicking andything on leg stump away for four, the boundarys were comming thick and fast at one end while wickets were doing the same at the other, Nash picking up two while Hoggard was ran out. Jimmy Anderson was the man not out after trying to get Jones on strike as foten as he could. The Queensland bowlers looked distraught as they were slogged all over the place by the middle order linchpin, he finally met his match as Brant angled one accross his body and uprooted the middle and off stumps, fantastic batting under the circumstancial pressure from the courageous Jones.

England Scorecard:

England will need to draw on all their strength if they want to win this match, Harmison will have to hit those lengths again and Ashley Giles will need to find his as he was virtually non effective in the first innings, a win is posible but is Queensland manage the destruction they did a few hours ago then the match may already be over....

England are trying to be positive in bowling Queensland out in their second innings and have got the breakthrough, it is Freddie Flintoff again in his second over, a strong comeback after being hit for 12 in his first, that leaves the Aussies on 66/1.

Day 3:

Chairman's XI:
197 and 132 All Out

England: 232 All Out

England require 97 runs:

Harmison claims a hatrick as his 8 for helps England run rampant:

Steve Harmison found his lenght and dismissed five batsmen without scoring including four in a row in one over. The helpless batsmen could do nothing about what happened, his line was immaculate, jut outside off stump and nipping back in to middle stump or the pads, either one way they were out. He was backed up by clever bowling from Andrew Flintoff and Mathew Hoggard who also took wickets on the way to what should be a big England win. Flintoff started the collapse as he dismissed Kruger after a 66 run stand of which he scored 4. Harmison followed this up next over as he knocked the dangermans off stump flying after it was left unguarded.

Flintoff makes the breakthrough as Harmison takes a stunning catch in the slips:

cricket200420050122215606327gp.png

Love and Carseldine tried to keep hopes alive and looked promising untill they both fell in subsequent overs to Harmisons 'killer length' which seemed to baffle the batsmen into leaving the ball as it nipped back and either clipped or uprooted the off stump on view. Perren fended off 20 deliveries and Nash managed to score 10 before the Harmison show concluded in one fantastic over. Perren was the first to go trying to defend a ball that was aimed at middle and leg but nipped back to crash into off stump, the second was left by Seccombe and got in behind to uproot middle, the third (shown below) was left and would have hit the stumps, the crowd went wild as Harmison and the England boys leapt in the air but it didnt finish their, oh no, Kasprowics fell to the mighty Harmison next ball.

Harmison's Hatrick Ball was left Noffke and was going on to clip off stump:

cricket200420050123165317391yi.png

Flintoff bowled his last over as a maiden as did Harmison, Harmison however was looking for figures of 9 for after clean bowling Dawes first ball, Brant held on for five balls and Hoggard was brought back into the attack he finished Nash off first delivery with a inswinger that hit the pads and was given out dubiousley. a fine bowling performace by England and the Queensland score included 41 extras ( 29nb, 12byes)!

The last tour match before the first test against the Aussies had provided the national team with something to be worried about, one of their top county teams was ripped apart by the number one bowler in the world Steve Harmison who claimed 8/38 today and had risen from 8th to first again after a dissapointing display in South Africa, the Aussies will need to sit up and listen after laughing of this England team before now....

I changed the patch i was using to Ravis Test patch version 2.0 (the newest one form the downloads setion) halfway through the innings and the batsmen seemed to leave everything that Harmison bowled wherever it was, is this a bug? The ball would zip past them, hit the stumps, then they would carry out the movement of leaving it, shall i change back to the other patch for the next match Vs The Aussies?

Thats strange. I think I use the same patch, but have never experienced anything like this. I know I am using Ravi's patch, but maybe, its not v2 then.(or is it?)

Ill see what its like bowling against the Aussies but if it does it again ill change back.

if u put batwindowsize up to 1.1 it will reduce this enough so u shouldnt get to many lbw's or bowled. I find with it on 1.0 the cpu batsmen leave way to many balls on the stumps :)

Nice. Just noticing on the previous page that you have Strauss using a Puma. I made the GN Powerbow last summer for him. It will either be in the downloads section of the site or still in Cricket2004.co.uk (old site) downloads section.
