Australia:
163/3

First session is an entertainment overload:

The anticipation and build up have all stopped and now the real test starts, Australia Vs England and it hasn't dissapointed, Australia have dominated with a 6 runs an over run rate however it was England who struck first as Mathew Hoggard dimsissed Mathew Hayden for 0 after facing just 12 balls. A peach of an inswinger that swung lots late on in its flight and completely decieved Hayden who was hit full on the toe as it straightened up, his bat was no where near the ball, Hoggard has been containing the batsmen, his strike partner Steve Harmison however has been all over the place and was the main reason that Justin Langer nearly embarrased England with a first session century, he was however dismissed in the over before lunch.

Hoggard claimed his first wicket of the day in his 3rd over, Hayden LBW for 0:

Langer really smashed Harmison around and have Hoggy a few problems but the big northern lad really struggled to find a line and length that suited the pitch and consiquently went for a hell of a lot of runs, taking nothing away from the Aussies though who really went after England, Ricky Ponting was unlucky not to go on and score more afte getting himself in, he was undone by the man who can do no wrong, this time the outswinger to the right hander nipped back in and took the off stump with it beating the bat as it rocketed out of the ground and Hoggard rubbed it in with his trademark celebration.

Langer falls just 3 short of a first session century:

cricket200420050127192810596tz.png

Langer and Martyn tried to get a partnership together to steady themsleves and go again but Harmiosn and Hoggard were replaced by Flintoff and Anderson, Flintoff went for 2 in his first over and Anderson claimed a wicket maiden just before lunch and it was the key wicket of Langer. Bowling a good length on off stump and nipping back, he was giving the ball every chance of doing something, then came the delivery of the match, the same concentrated line but this time it nipped away, Langer fell for it hook line and sinker and his heart was i his mouth as he watched the ball carry comfortably to Vaughan at third slip.

From Englands point of view they have done well to take three wickets but need to bowl really economically if they are to take a lead at the end of their first innings, they will look to bowl the Aussies out for around 350-400 9 a challenging total to bowl them out for) and then get around a 75-100 run lead if not more to stay in contention because Hayden wil be out for revenge....

You've described the Hayden dismissal really well there, mate, and I have experienced the same delivery quite a few times in this game.

As far as the match is concerned, I think England will be happy to have picked up three wickets before lunch, though they have gone for quite a few runs in the process. And the good thing is that the Aussies have two new batsman in the middle, and if England bowl well in the afternoon, they can still dismiss the Aussies for less than 300.

Good work mate!

The Aussies have declared after 94 overs overs on 456/7, a trully terrible bowling performace by England containing 70 extras (w9, nb57, b4). Damien Martyn went on to score 110 and Brett Lee was the pick of the rest, he scored a fantastic 70 albeit from 189 balls, The Aussies really batted well and gritted their teeth, the England attack did everything but take wickets, ful report up later or tomorrow!

I have no idea, we werent that far into the second day either... Report up soon.

It turns out i didnt save my game so as i went to start batting i had to bowl from the 86th over which shouldnt affect the game too much just a few more wickets or a few more runs.

Day 2:
End of Innings:

Australia:
473/9d

Gillespie: 1*

Brett Lee makes 75 as Aussies dominate before Ponting declares in freak descison:

Autralia really hammered the England bowling attack after a few close shaves and punished them for not taking their chances, a few chances went down and LBW's were turned away and in the end it just wasnt Englands day. It all started in the first ball after lunch, Flintoff and Anderson carried on their tandem bowling and it was Flintoff who induced the edge from Martyn, a thin edge but an edge nonetheless was fumbled by Geraint Jones and he escaped a duck, he was dropped a further two times on 5 and 18 and eventually went on to make England pay for their mistakes. Lehmann didnt add to his score and after a few balls was undone by Flintoff who got one to nip back away and clip the edge of an unguarded off stump.

Harmison celebrates the dismissal of Michael Clarke:

cricket200420050128175313370ro.png

Clarke came in and had every intention and getting at the England attack, he did well for his 18 of 35 balls playing some fantstic shots including a lofted cover drive which nearly went for six, he was however undone after Harmison softened him up for the big kill, the bouncers were flying in and a yorker was well kept out the ball before but it just took that little bit of magic from the Durham quickie to undo him, a length ball that nipped back in got past the attempted drive and crashed into middle stump. Then came the big two partnerships, the first between Adam Gilchrist and Damien Martyn and the second between Adam Gilchrist and Brett Lee.

Martyn reaches a fabulous century which was applauded by the England fans and players:

cricket200420050128181029686lw.png

Gilchrist took the pressure off of Martyn as he came to the crease and scored runs freely, this allowed Martyn to do the same and he smashed home his century from 83 balls, a fantastic performance from a man looking to make his mark on this series. he finally fell to Matthew Hoggard after trying to guide one through the slips, he nicked one to Graham Thorpe at second slip. Taking nothing away from Adam Gilchrists performance as he looked in great touch and was scoring with a strike rate of about 35, that wasnt the case however for his next partner Brett Lee who was smashing balls all over the place and his innings provided two sixes from the bowling of Ashley Giles who struggled. He played the innings of his life to accelerate Australia's and his own total, he didnt look to comfortable against the swing bowling of Anderson and it was he who finally claimed the elusive wicket caught driving on the up to Hoggard who took a routine catch. Ashley Giles got in on the wicket taking as he claimed Gilchrist?s, a slice of the edge of the bat just about carried to a diving Anderson. Shane Warne hit a boundary and ran a few singles before his optimism got the better of him and he was ran out It was a few overs later that Ponting made the strange descison of declaring, the only reason i can think of is that he wanted to let his bowlers have a go at the England openers when they were fresh...

England will need to concentrate as they face a tricky period before lunch, they need to keep wickets in tact if they are to win this match or even create a lead which they wont be thinking about now, all they will be thinking about is knocking off the Australians total, the opening partnership will be vital, you may have noticed that not many edges were taken in the first innings, that is because the pitch is very flat and doesn?t create much bounce, this will aid the batsmen and the pitch is heavily batsmen orientated, England will also be wanting to cut down on the extras bowled as the 91 they came up with in thid innings was disgracefull and could cost them the match.

Day 2:
Lunch:

Australia:
473/9d

England: 42/0

AJ Strauss: 18*
ME Trescothick: 24*

England reach the lunch interval unscathed and confident as Strauss and Trecothick sit in for the long haul, they will want to stay in for as long as they can and make big scores, 150's possibly a double hundred from one of them, the next man in Michael Vaughan will want to stay in the pavillion intil tea at least, Trescothick has been really positive with hs run scoring, he has faced 34 balls with two boundarys scored, Strauss has faced 26 balls with only one boundary to his name. Tresco had a scare early as he was dropped on 0 by the normally reliable Gilchrist diving to his right, Warne could have possibly taken the catch at 1st slip but Gilchrist called for it and put it down, could Trescothick repeat the feat of Martyn who was also dropped on 0 but went on to make 110? Only time will tell....

That's one hell of a run-rate the Aussies managed. Did they suddenly go into "Wallop everything to the boundary mode"?

Good luck with the reply. If you can match their score, we're in for a cracker of a finish!

Day 2:
Tea:

Australia:
473/9

England: 191/1

AJ Strauss: 89*
MP Vaughan: 30*

Trescothick makes contribution as England hold the fort:

England have made it to tea on the second day and have only lost 1 wicket in the process, that of Marcus Trescothick midway between Lunch and now, Strauss is still there and never looked like giving his wicket away as the spinners were introduced, Trescothick however didnt fare so well and fell to a famous Aussie leg spinner after he and his fellow opener had put on an opening stand of 142 runs. Strauss looked on top form as he batted 10 centurys in his innings and will look to bat out the day and maybe into lunch tommorrow, England will be soley concentrated on knocking of the Aussie score first and gaining a 100 run lead to defend and get a win or bat it out for a draw, England have batted particularly well against some mean Aussie's in the form of Brett Lee, Glen McGrath and Jason Gillespie.

Strauss helps a wayward ball to the boundary on his way to an unbeaten 89:

cricket200420050130182118489aq.png

The opening partnership of Trescothick and Strauss continues to flourish under heavy pressure, it just gets better and better, this time they complete their highest stand of the tour, nigh on 150 runs, a crucial one to say the least as an early wicket could have meant defeat for England, Trecothick could have gone on to make bundles more runs against the quickes who he played exceptioanaly well, he just stumbled upon the bowling of Shane Warne and Michael Clarke, he was uneasy for the first few over that they bowled in tandem and he just couldnt get off strike, he eventually misjudged one from Shane Warne which was to be his undoing, he was trying to turn it on the backfoot down to the boundary, it seemed to keep low, even with this in mind it was never going on to hit the stumps and a hideous descision was made by the umpire on this occasion.

Trescothick is unlucky to be given out after this ball looked to have done way to much for a helpfull 71:

cricket200420050131192558405pm.png

The Aussies got the wicket they were after and went on the all out offensive again against Vaughan, the fiery Brett Lee and thunderous Jason Gillepsie tried to pummel him into submission, it didnt work however as on many occasions they saw the ball fly back past them as Vaughan middles it time after time, he even batted the spinners around at points to, he really looks in good touch and is set to go on to make a big score allongside Andrew Strauss who just needs to accumulate untill he reaches the 120 mark, then he might start playing more offensive strokes, he has looked confident all the way through his innings and is a batsman with something to prove, they are always difficult to overcome and get out.

England Scorecard:

cricket200420050202193808929ub.png

The Aussies need a bit of luck if they are to get anything out of this innings, they havent looked like taking a wicket and even their premier fast bowlers are getting knocked around by two fantastic batsmen, they are playing far better than Langer did and against tougher bowlers at the moment.

What lead to you think England should declare on if they get there, if they havent knocked off the score by lunch on day 3 then should they declare? Your views are appreciated although i already have an idea it would be nice to know what you think.
