Strauss hits maiden century Vs Australia as England sit in a tense position:

England will be anxious over their position at the end of day 2 going into day 3 after starting off so well in a session where they lost 3 wickets. Michael Vaughan went on to add 31 and Strauss 17 after a critical stand to put England in pole position, Strauss was the first to goo, he played a fantastic innings beyond his experience and really was a good advery fro international cricket, he accumalated and went on the offensive eventually getting too big for his boots and getting out after trying to clip Michael Clarke to the leg side, the ball turned too much and he hit nothing but thin air, the ball however went on to hit middle and leg, the crowd applauded Strauss' contribution as he showed them his bat.

Strauss forces his way to a century in the 1st innings at Brisbane:

Vaughan would have wanted to keep the wicket tally the same untill the end of the day and build another big partnership with Graham Thorpe, this wasn't to be as Thorpe made 7 from 23 balls before falling to Glen Mcgrath who was the only seamer to pick up a wicket which just shows you how flat the pitch is, he was caught by Adam Gilchrist behind the stumps after trying to drive a ball through the covers, it nipped back and the Aussies claim of an inside edge was accepted by Simon Taufel who raised the finger and forced Thorpe to walk despite protests that he hadn't hit it.

Flintoff bounds down the pitch on his way to a subdued 34:

cricket200420050203203359395lo.png

Vaughan didn't have time to build a partnership with Flintoff either as before
Freddie had the chance to score Vaughan was caught in the covers by first innings centurion Damien Martyn driving on the up against Shane Warne, a high caught, leaping above the head was well taken and Vaughan who had looked his best at the crease sinse the start of the tour was out, he looked dissapointed as he trudged off. Cue Rob Key, looking to make an impact after being given a big chance, a shock descison meant that he was to start at number 6 batsmen and he wasnt about to squander it, he really got on top of the Aussie pacers and made them work for their dot balls even in a test match, Flintoff has been outbatted and has turned accumalator, picking off the bad balls, a good partnership is bulding with both men near half centurys.

England Scorecard:

The boys need a big, big first session on day 3 if they are to level the scores, they will probrably declare with a lead of about 75 which could be aquired a few overs after lunch and really tear into the Aussie openers, they will look to pick up two wickets before the lead is wiped off and give themselves a day and a bit to win the match, optimistic but doable.

England are going well in the first hour of the 3rd day, they haven bunked the run rate up to 5.49 per over and haven't lost a wicket.

Australia:

England: 519/4

A Flintoff: 136*
RWT Key: 123*

England lead by 46 runs

Flintoff and Key Tonnes boost England's progress on 3rd day:

A fabulous 200+ run partnership between a heavy hitter and a man who by rights shouldn't even be in the squad had propelled England past the total set in the Australians first innings and given them a lead of 46 at Lunch on the third day, not a big enough total to protect yet though after one of the best sessions by and England team so far. 190 runs and no wickets. Both Flintoff and Key could, if given the time go on to make double hundreds, that will not be the case if a result is to be had in this match which England stand a great chance of winning. Boundarys were comming thick and fast after the Aussies new ball plan didn't work, Shane Warne stemmed the flow after Lehmann and Clarke were getting no turn off the pitch with the new ball, Ponting had tried his quickies but found them getting smashed around as well.

The golden boys are applauded by the Aussie team as they leave the pitch at lunch on 123 & 136 respectively:

Both mens centurys have come at more than a run a ball, a massive achievement at test cricket level let alone against the Aussies, an interview with captain Michael Vaughan and coach Duncan Fletcher revealed than England will bat on for another 30-45 minutes to aquire a big enough lead and will back themsleves to bowl the Australians out and chase down the total set. This could be an exciting two days in the opening test at Brisbane.

Day 3:
End Of Innings:

Australia:
473/9d

England: 584/6d

A Flintoff: 151*
AF Giles: 28*

England lead by 111 runs

Jones and Giles hit out as Flintoff makes an unbeated 151 to put England in a promising position:

Ashley Giles and Geraint Jones provided Big Fred with the support he needed to push Englands lead past the 100 run mark leaving the Aussies with a big task to try and set England a good chase, they havent left it too late either, 20 minutes was all it took after some big hittingand two wickets. The first to go was Rob Key, the man who wasn't even in the squad untill minuted before the game has pulled one out of the bag and made a big contribution, he finally fell for 129 after sharing a 200+ stand with Freddie Flintoff, Lehmann enticed him down the pitch and the Aussie bowler was originally apealing for an outside edge as the ball ripped off the seam, not given, no matter though as the big batsmen had wandered out of his crease during th shot and Adam Gilchrist needs no invitation to whip of the bails, sharp wicket keeping.

Geraint Jones gets himself into a right mess as he is bowled for a quickfire 14 by Lehmann:

cricket200420050205191850756mv.png

Enter Geraint Jones who hammered four fours and a two from the first five balls he faced, he then tried to defend a well placed Yorker that was speared in by Lehmann and came undone, the Aussies would have surely been delighted with this wicket as Jones is a real big hitter. Ashley Giles and Freddie Flintoff continued the onslaught with four after four after four, very few singles were ran but boundarys came thick and fast and the Aussies still didn't look like taking a wicket which was the case throughout the match, not enough aggression or ruthlessness which could become their downfall. When Vaughan eventually called the boys back in they had done their job well and a fine batting performace all round was noted by the Aussie players and fans once again who applauded the two unbeaten batsmen off the pitch.

AC Gilchrist: 5*
JN Gillespie: 0*

Australia lead by 45 runs

Hoggard grabs six wickets as Australia look beat:

Matthew Hoggard took it upon himself to really get at the Aussie batsmen and has really put in a big effort to get the ball to swing and to move off the seam, it really paid of for him as he picks up 6 wickets and is the only bowler to tale wickets in the second innings, the other wicket came as a runout after a mixup with the batsmen off the bowling of Ashley Giles. England achieved their target of getting 3 wickets before the Aussies knocked of their score, then it all went downhill fast for Pontings men. The first wicket to fall was that of Justin Langer for 5, an identical delivery to the one that got rid of Hayden in the first innings, a bit of late swing and hit right on the toe after straightening. The left handers just dont know how to handel this type of bowling and are constantly misjudging which is causing them to be bowled or caught leg before, they need to work on this if they are to stand any chance of beating England.

Groundhog Day:

Hoggard's dismissal of Justin Langer (2nd Innings):

Hoggards dismissal of Matthew Hayden (1st Innings):

cricket200420050125213307685fb.png

Hoggard claimed his second of the day after the Aussie captain looked to be well on his way to a big score, he took it upon himself to set the scoring wheels in motion and claimed 40 runs from 59 balls before trying to push Hoggard through the covers, the ball swung away and forced Ponting to reach for it, he didn't make enough contact and the ball took the edge to Graham Thorpe who took a comfortable catch. The run rate slowed from there and the wickets tumbled, Hoggard was really on form as he fired in all lengths, he dismissed Matthew Hayden with a beautifull in-swinging yorker on off stump, that was his third wicket. Martyn was then joined at the crease by Darren Lehmann for a few balls before he left one on off stump that nipped back and took the stump with it.

A well placed in-swinging yorker by Hoggard is too good for Matthew Hayden:

cricket200420050206151958658lu.png

Another short stay at the crease came in the form of Michael Clarke, he played all around a fantastic ball from Hoggard that swung away and nipped back in towards the right hander, the Australians looked downhearted and for good reason but Martyn was still there and he was set for a big score on 40 as was Ponting and was joined by Adam Gilchrist, they needed a big partnership but before Gilchrist could face a ball Englands fielders struck. This time it wasnt Hoggard that claimed the wicket it was Harmison's bowling, Martyn clipped him to the leg side but Anderson was there in a flash and by the time Martyn has turned to get back in his crease after the 'no' call from Gilchrist it was too late and the Auusies only hope was lost, Brett Lee stayed for 3 balls before a Hoggard leg stump yorker sent him away.

Australia Scorecard:

cricket200420050206172115050jv.png

The Aussies need a miracle to pull even a draw here, Gilchrist will have no support and Englands bowlers have got their tails up, they will take the night to rest and formulate a plan, although i dont think there is a plan for this situation, England look home and dry but anything can happen in the game of cricket, especially in a game like this....

Thanks for the feedback, i was going to swap key and thorpe aroudn which i might do for the second innings and have a go at that, it might not make it that far down the order though the way Australia are playing :p

I've also updated my bats with the new Kookaburra that Aussie1st made and Matty Hayden uses. I put it over the Gladius.

England require 84 runs to win

Harmison gets his reward as England look set to win the opening test:

Steve Harmison has bowled well throughout, picking up a few wickets in the first innings and having some great spells against the top order in the second innings, he finally picked up a wicket in the second, this after Hoggard claimd his 7th and final wicket fo the innings, that of Adam Gilchrist who treid to be positive and make some runs, he eventualy fell for 18 after trying to drive Hoggard through the covers, the ball swung back meanly and collided full force with his of stump. The second wicket fell as Harmison decided to bowl around the wicket as he had no luck from over it, the breakhrough came a few balls later as the ball nipped back between bat and pad and made a mess of the stumps.

Harmison celbrates after leaving Jason Gillespie's stumps all over the place:

cricket200420050206193643892pc.png

The final wicket came after no runs had been scored in about 10 overs, Warne and McGrath were just stalling for time, McGrath flicked one to the legside in the first attacking shot for an age, they got one and then came back for the second, big mistake as the throw went to the bowlers end fatser than expected and Warne never made his ground, silly running which dindt need to be done, England should win this match by at leats 8 wickets. The pick of the bowlers in the match so far is Matthew Hoggard who has taken innings figures of 26 overs, 9 maidens, 57 runs for 7 wickets.
