England's tour of India - 2021

Why is Hardik in the squad? He was in the squad on England tour in 2018. So maybe he will play in the WTC final in place of Jadeja. If the team management has planned to play Hardik in the WTC final then he will be definitely given a match before the WTC final and maybe in the next match.

Rohit
Gill/Agarwal
Pujara/Agarwal
King
Rahane
Pant
Pandya
Ashwin
Kuldeep
Ishant
Bumrah

King is mostly alive on behalf of his pawns since months.

Pandya won't bowl till his revamped bowling drill is 100% green signalled.

Don't know why even he was included in the squad. Can't even think about him as a backup for anyone. Hardik doesn't open. No way he can replace Pujara. Won't even dare to play him at 4 in case virat wants to visit his daughter again. Him at 5 instead of Rahane? Won't even think so. And he is not bowling so anything below 6 isn't plausible.

Only case for him to play is India's goes with just four bowlers. He will take up no.6 while pant pushed to 7. Or vice versa

Possibly one of the best 'feel good knocks' in recent times - TAKE A BOW ASH!! What the previous Australia tour has done for him is HERE TO BE SEEN!! Nobody can now question him for his overseas returns and nobody can now call him a 'home bully'. And as many in social media are pointing out, that fighting knock that he played at Sydney to help India draw a crucial test match has sorta revitalized his test batting, which was worryingly on the wane in recent times. The camaraderie that he enjoys within the team was exemplified by Siraj's animated celebration when Ash reached century.

Seriously happy to see Ash perform like this!

On this pitch, its a shut case now. Actually, it is now time to reward the curator of this test match pretty handsomely for preparing a pitch that kept both batsman and bowlers interested from Day 1. And have the same thing over in Motera where hopefully it should spin more (if the recent SMAT final is taken into account).

Nothing has been wrong with Ashwin's batting ever. He's a bit uncomfortable against the body line stuff against guys like Archer but even someone like Steve Smith had issues. Ganguly spent his entire career like that. This management is like a Lakme fashion week. They make decisions and then when they work they decide to move to a new fad.

The India posts are littered with Ashwin Jadeja at 7-8 or even 6-7 on some tracks.

The only issue with Ashwin is his fielding and he still unnecessarily dives around when it is not needed. Him, Bumrah and Shami just need to trundle around in the field because we don't need them broken up.

Both the pitches so far have been poor in my opinion. I have no issue with a seaming or spinning track but the toss shouldn't be such a big factor in any test. In both the tests so far, the toss has been gold!

That's honestly a scary line-up. A few thoughts:
:tick: Rishabh has kept really well in this Test. He might not be as reliable as Saha, but it's still really good to see him improving because he could be in the Gilchrist/Prior/Dhoni bracket of counter-attacking keepers.
:tick: If both Jadeja and Ashwin are fit, then you can play Hardik as a luxury number seven whether or not he's fit to bowl more than a few overs. Imagine finally getting Pujara out after a long day of bowling, and Hardik walks out to join Rishabh in the middle. Brutal.
:tick: Could pick any one of about eight fast bowlers without really weakening the team.

Hell, add Olly Robinson and Olly Stone in the team, and you get Olly - Olly - Ollie which is worth 5000xp

I refuse to believe there isn't another Dom/Dominic in County Cricket... Googling... Dom Leech at Yorkshire.

Dom S
Joe Root
Ollie Pope
Ben Stokes
Ben Foakes
Ollie Robinson (not the bowler, the WK)
Chris Woakes
Dom B
Ollie Robinson
Olly Stone
Dom L

4 Ollies plus 6000xp 2x Ollie Robinson 12000XP
Stokes, Foakes, Woakes 1000 XP
3 Doms 5000xp

Joe Root's place looking vulnerable to anyone called Ben or Chris

I mean, if in doubt there's always the three Currans strategy

There’s one imposter among us
Gilchrist - 5570 runs @ 47.60 (SR: 81.95, 17 centuries, best 204*)
Prior - 4099 runs @ 40.18 (SR: 61.66, 7 centuries, best 131*)
Dhoni - 4,876 runs @ 38.09 (SR: 59.11, 6 centuries, best 224)

So yeah - Gilchrist is the obvious imposter but in terms of wicket-keepers who bat for an average of ten or eleven overs worth of deliveries before being dismissed, it's about close enough

Had genuinely no idea Prior was that good
Because he doesn’t get talked about as a great keeper, honestly

Great ton Ash. Looking at this shocker of a deck I'd have never envisaged anyone was able to score a century on it.. but Ash defied all logic.

Pommies certainly did not need to lost those three late wickets with their chances now of saving this game evaporating fast. Still Root is there and in rare form and if Stokes can reproduce his Headingley stunner.. who knows. Miracles do happen.
