England's tour of India - 2021

they had no answers because

They lost the toss
India have better spinners
Indian batsmen play spinners better
What's your excuse to Nottingham Test in 2018 then?

England were playing at home
They were 2-0 up in the series
They had better seamers/swing bowlers
Their batsman played seam/swing bowling well
They had a legend in their batting line-up!!!

Btw dew factor nullifies the effect of Pink ball. There is often a lot of dew in the month of February in places like Ahemdadbad, Mumbai, etc. So pink ball alone won't help England's cause in the next match.

Because even if you have better players in certain areas of game you cannot perform at your best at all times?

That’s the beauty of sport being unpredictable at times else no one would watch

Then when can't English fans accept that India just played better in the 2nd Test?

Who can't?
There were few posts from members complaining about pitch conditions and claiming it to be one of the major reasons for the Indian win which is far from the fact.

Whoever thought that things would get easier for England after beating India in the first Test are delusional. I think this Indian side have proved it time and again that how they could bounce back after going through an extreme low. And to believe that beating them at the start of the series could cause problems to their confidence is a sin. These guys are infact hurting and that actually would make them perform better. This team thrives better under pressure situations.

I for all honesty actually appreciate the way England played in the first Test. Infact I consider their performance as one of the best in this country by an away team in a long long time and I just respect the way they won. But statements like such actually spoils things and the mood for this series. We(both Indian and English fans) were all excited for this series for about a year that too in Covid times. I would say that I am excited for the next match as well. Hope such things stay away in the next match and we get a good game of Cricket. Whoever wins is just irrelevant, we just want good Cricket to be played at the end of the day without any mourning or cribbing of fans from either sides.

Aye. It is possible to have played badly on a bad pitch
Exactly.

It also bugs me the number of fairly false equivalences being made between day one dustbowls and "English conditions". I don't personally think that anyone is saying all Indian pitches are poor pitches; indeed, the one for the second Test is probably the only bad Indian pitch I can think of since that absolute meme of a South African tour. But to try and explain the differences in quick bullet points:
  • When "English conditions" are near-impossible for batsmen, it's usually due to overhead conditions. Groundsmen can't control the clouds.
  • If a pitch is turning and spitting from day one, then that is the best it will play for the whole Test match; if a pitch is fully green on day one, it will usually even out over the course of the Test (this can be seen in most Tests in New Zealand)
That isn't to say that this kind of wicket is acceptable:

I would say that a pitch like this is underprepared to a similar extent to one that has no grass whatsoever.

None of this takes anything away from India, who outplayed England heavily, or Rohit Sharma, who played an innings that absolutely defied the conditions.

Ultimately, it's not really a huge problem unless there's a safety concern greater than the usual inherent dangers of playing Test cricket, but a Test where you know the result by the end of day one or two isn't a great product regardless of what the result is. And that includes Ashes Tests where the visiting side get rolled before lunch on the first day (regardless of who the visiting side is).

One of the best Tests I've seen in recent years was the England-Ireland Test; England and Ireland got rolled once each in that match, and it wasn't anything to do with the conditions!

Bought a puppy home over the weekend and life has never been more busier. Finally got to see the highlights of the entire match. It was a complete reversal of the first test. On the pitch, a team scored 600 runs in 2 innings and one team scored 300 runs in 2 innings. If the pitch was turning from day 1, it was doing that for both the side. While this was going to start the fire about how its not right to have spin from day 1 when it can seam and swing, I do not believe that this was complete abomination of a pitch.

India were 80/3 losing Puji and Kohli. England could have pressed on had they not have had "Rotational Policy". Do not blame on the pitch when you do not play your best XI. Resting Anderson and dropping Bess was not the right move. I get it that he has played 3 test matches in a row and England play 17 test matches if I am not wrong by end of this year but he would have had rest after this series. England did not play spin well and were outplayed completely.

India again in the second inning were 106/6 and England could not finish the innings quickly because they did not have the best bowling lineup. India are still inconsistent with one or two players playing in an inning and failing in the other. England had their chances and could have put India on back foot.

On India's performance, Rohit Sharma did what he is best at. If he gets in, its going to be a big one. Wish this would have come in the last match as well. Ashwin has been in some serious form since the Aussie series. Axar Patel bowled really good and its sad to see Kuldeep only was used for 12 overs. If he is not going to be utilized 100%, please let him go back to domestics and let him get some game time.

Rishabh Pant has been sensational from the time he has comeback. His keeping was pretty decent from what I can make from the highlights. Him getting dropped in the limited over series has been the best thing that has happend to him. Kohli's fitness first policy has paid dividends for him. I read he lost 12-15 kgs in Australia.

Onto Ahmedabad. A new stadium, new pitch, new version of test match cricket. I am sure Anderson will be back. Also traditionally Ahmedabad pitches have been flat, so it will be interesting to see how it goes with the new pitch and stadium.

All the Indian fans, why arnt we picking Yuzi?

That's an understatement. He was infact very good behind the wickets. Foakes was outstanding which makes Pant's keeping look not so special. But he was way better than the past.

Prejudice of him being a white-ball specialist.

Why do Indian fans on Twitter hate Michael Vaughan so much?

Because there's just too many folks in India who follow cricket and follow it with passion.

The trolling of Vaughan's comments about the pitch, has been pretty rough in these past few days. But you guys can take heart from the fact that there were lots of trolls on Tim Paine after today's win by India, and the trolls went back to the SCG test where Paine sledged Ashwin "See you at the Gabba mate... your own team mates dont like you... etc etc etc".

Many Indian fans love to troll/meme people who pass out controversial stuff against Indian players. And their memories are longer because they just have too much of time on their hands for cricket.
