England's tour of India - 2021

Brilliant stuff from India. Yet another unearthing of a super exciting cricketer, in Prasidh Krishna. Shardul Thakur has looked mega transformed since that epic Gabba knock that helped India win an epic series. The guy is acting like he can do nothing wrong. Bhuvneshwar looks like he has hit the straps big time after coming off a major injury layoff. He was looking to fade away but this is some serious comeback. India are truly spoilt by the riches and one must doff their hat to the IPL for producing these cricketers on a scarily overflowing basis.

Though I must say, India's ODI batting template needs a revamp. Yes they won today and England's slam bang template just imploded on them, but India need to add more aggression at the top and their openers need to start posing more faith on the middle and lower order which is now very strong. The idea of "sedate starts and build towards an explosive finish" is so old fashioned. Might work when chasing, but when setting targets, its good to be more aggressive at the top and then re-evaluate when losing more wickets than expected.

@Bevab

I get your point about Buttler opening. But, don't you think Bairstow just can't bat anywhere else bar opening?

P:S I see 50 overs just as an extension of the T20 format and I know people will call me barking mad but I see no value in the Dhawan innings. Post 80, he was almost painful to watch.
Might agree with the Dhawan thingy. But 50 overs is not at all an extension of a T20. Infact both formats need different strategies.

To all the English fans,

Has Jason Roy had some major injury? He was absolutely unbelievable off the back foot and now he just seems to plonk his front foot down the track and looks to swing through the line. I don't remember him cutting/pulling one ball?

We wouldn't have won the World Cup final batting like that.

Exactly the reason we lose most of our games, when we do.

Stokes isn't batting at 3 if Root is available. Billings has established himself as back up middle order batsman give him a chance to establish himself as a back up for anywhere or give Livingstone a game.

Stokes also provides stability in the middle order.

Ranting at you now @Parth D :lol

The good thing is, we English can entirely blame the batting because no Indian fans are going to say Kohli's captaincy changed the game.

I've repeatedly said that England have a template, but they are a very vulnerable side when they bat first. I think it's fair to say that today was an aberration but I do feel they are being a one trick pony. I'd shut my eyes and have Root in both formats to balance out the madness. I know Malan and all that but he's not got the all round solidity that Root has and I think he's too good a player to not be in the limited overs side and that includes the T20 format!

Edit- I expect a lot of people to bowl a middle and leg line to Malan. His technique doesn't allow him to get the front foot out of the way and work it.
