Rooney fractures foot in opener
Wayne Rooney
Rooney seems certain to miss England's Euro 2008 qualifiers in September
England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering a hairline fracture of his left foot.

Now england are buggered. Time to get larsson again methinks.

Larssons past it and did nothing last season afet rhis first game. Fergie had strikers to take today but instead he thought,no i'll be a complete idiot tempt fate, and leave Tevez behind. He has his moments of genious but he obviously didn't today.

You can't blame Fergie, Tevez is not match fit, although you shouldn't lay dropping points down to one man's absence. You had plenty of very good chances to score after Rooney went off, with Wes Brown for example. There's no wonder why Marcus Hahnemann was man of the match.

This match fit stuff is a load of crap if you ask me, he would only of had to run around for 45 mins and seeing as man united were all over them he wouldnt of had to do too much running. Also he played in the Copa America so he cant be that out of touch.

The Premiership, I can imagine, is a lot more physical than we think. Plus, you say he would have only have had to run around for 45 minutes. How was Ferguson supposed to know Rooney was going to get injured?

I was not happy earlier, really frustrated at our failure to beat a Reading side that just came and defended today. You can't go into a premiership game with just 1 striker in the squad, ridiculous. Fergie said that Tevez has looked really sharp in training all week and that he would have played against Dumfermline or Glentoran in the week had he of signed on time. Also he's said that Tevez will probably make his debut on Sunday at the council house, obviously that will probably be brought forward to Wednesday because of the Rooney injury, but how is that different from today, he wasn't going to get any more match fitness. He should have at least been put on the bench today, for a situation like the one that happened. Anyway, one result won't change our season, so three wins in our three remaining games in August would suit me, especially as one is against the blue noses.

Lee, yes we had chances but none of them fell to a real goalscorer, because we played the whole of the second half without a striker!

I can't believe Arsenal managed to win that one today, but Fulham and Birmingham gave Arsenal and Chelski a real battle.

Anyone else see Sven's interview on MOTD last night? "The media have been giving me sticks":p.

Don't worry, fellow Man Utd fans! We've often won the league after not winning the first game and Chelsea's defence looks terrible without Terry. Also, Reading's keeper had one of those days today and if you ally that to a team who had no intention of trying to actually mount an attack, you can forget winning.

If only that chance had fallen to someone other than Evra...

And we should've had a penalty when the Reading defender fractured Rooney's foot! The ball wasn't going in, so the ref should've pulled it back for a penalty. Good start, ref!

Everton are officially better than Liverpool and United until Tuesday. The table says it all.

Who's eating who's dust now? :p

Typical Man United fans :p

If that's the case, you can all bow at my feet.

Uh oh, let's not get into the dust issue again!!!!!

Let's just see who's imbibed the most Old Trafford dust at the end of the season!

Atleast we are seen as the team to beat this year. Time for some good old fashion panic buying :p.

I don't know what all the fuss is about.

'A major blow for England'

He's been poor for England for three years.

Jens Jens Jens, what are you doing!?

Rooney's out for two months. We need another striker, Sir Alex! Saha & Solksjaer are injury-prone, so that only leaves us with Tevez. I suppose Giggs could do the job, then that'd allow us to play Nani and Ronaldo on opposite flanks. Or Scholes just off Tevez, leaving room in midfield for Anderson/Hargreaves. Only problem is can Hargreaves and Carrick play together?

Time for Dong to come in as uniteds main striker i say. He'll be better than John O'Shea would have bee anyway. Oh well you could tell it was coming the way some of our idiotic fans were acting like we were going to win every game, winning the title will be harder this year but i still believe we will do it. Should never be overly critical of the players on the opening day of the season and no-one has been to be fair, pretty much all the blame goes to Fergie for this one :p and Reading playing well.
