Regarding the penalty, it makes no difference when Berbatov went down - the fact is he was clipped in the box; fair enough, he did make a meal of it - but he was clipped. The defender stuck his leg out and there was slight contact - not enough to go down, but contact is a foul either way. The rules don't say anything about a player going down, it's simply whether or not the player was fouled - and he was. Either way, in the second half around 65 minutes during that frenetic goalmouth scramble, there was a challenge on Giggs that wasn't given and it was more of a penalty than the Berbatov incident ever was - so for me, it evened out the other decision, right or wrong.

Regarding the red card - you cannot leap in with two feet these days - do that and you're putting yourself in danger of a red and that's exactly what happened.

I missed about ten minutes of the second half, so I can't comment on any decisions that Liverpool should or shouldn't have been given during that time.

It was pretty frustrating that the game at the Bridge was shown live on TV! Of all games! Anyway, hope this big win with the performance even if its just against a Championship side(no disrespect to Ipswich) will be a platform for us to turn our fortunes around.

The only downside, we have Everton away in the next round. :facepalm

Yep, that's a toughie. Not too unhappy about our draw - could've been a lot worse. :)

Yeah berba is a flinging piece of ████ . Great show by our boys . Proud of Kenny and Pool .
Obviously disappointed of the fact the referee did not help our cause in taking the game to Anfield where we would have lambasted them out of the cup . Take a bow Webb , for a wonderful game of refereeing , Hail UNITED's 12th man :clap

Funny that no-one mentioned the challenge on Giggs in the second half that was more of a penalty that the Berbatov incident was. And don't say that Torres or any other striker in the entire world wouldn't have gone down under that challenge, because we all know they would!

It was clear there was no contact, it's not selective viewing, there is obviously no contact. At the end of the day it wasn't a penalty, it shouldn't have been given and therefore Man United shouldn't have won.

Penalty or no, there was a challenge on Giggs in the second half that had a better case of being given as a penalty than the Berbatov one and it wasn't given. Therefore, it evened out over the match - therefore, Man Utd should've and did win. Deservedly so - it was only 'Pool's keeper that kept them in it during the second half! And I'd debate whether or not there was contact - the defender clearly sticks his leg out and any striker in this day and age will fall over it - whether they could avoid it or not.

There is barely any comparison from that decision to the penalty given. The other challenge was fifty-fifty. The fact is they didn't score bar the penalty given, hence it would have gone to a replay. I'm not debating who deserved to win.

Fifty-fifty? Giggsy went to side step the defender, the defender caught him, Giggs tripped and went down! It doesn't get more definite than that. He didn't dive, he didn't look for it - he was tripped.

I never said he dived. It wasn't a penalty, I haven't seen it since, but there was no way it looked like a stone wall penalty as you are making it out to be.

Very naive way of looking it at Treva. You really think if that wasn't a pen the game finishes 0-0 and we take it to Anfield?

I don't think the Giggs one was a penalty. Is this the Shelvey tackle? Pretty sure he got the ball as well? I think the Berbatov one was more of a penalty, it was a rash and stupid challenge from behind the man. I've seen millions of the challenges on Giggs not given in the area. More not given than are given.
