But lets face it what were Chelsea a few seasons back, not much. Then came the money, now they are a big club. And they had more than 1 local club to contend with. Man City seem to have more cash to splash than Chelsea ever had, only a fool would believe that they won't pose a threat as long as this spending persists. Much as you hate it, if they spend like this they will become a big club.

Players may bang on about how they want to play for clubs with history, but their agents don't want that. Sure some will say at the clubs they want to play at, and some will never make a move to a club like Man City, but there are plenty of quality players in the world who would go there and it's easily possible for City to assemble a squad that can challenge. Of course they could make a huge balls of it too I guess, but I think in the long run the spending power will win out.

They may or may not get Kaka, but it will certainly make agents all over the world take notice.

You don't get to be a big club by having a won a few trophies in a short space of time, you have to have things like a history, traditions and a good fanbase as well. Trophies don't make a football club.

Yeah of course, they're going to get better, absolutely, but why should I be worried about that? There's only so many players they can play on one day, they will still be City. They're in a real relegation fight this season and they better believe it and pull their finger out if they don't want Kaka and co to be getting dressed at Deepdale and Oakwell next season. They're not going to get Champions league football next season, which means it's going to be 2010/11 before they could potentially even get a crack at it, that'll be 3 full seasons for Kaka, who will then be reaching the end of his peak years.

Even if they do improve, and they will in time, they will still be City, forever in our shadow, and a few trophies won't change that.

United couldn't have been so big without the fact we had a great team though. We got a great manager and stuff at the right time and we are well ran but I don't think we are that smart, more the premier league and sky were the ones making it massive and we were the obvious choice for all the football noobs to support. I wouldn't say united were that smart, becoming a PLC was a tweaking stupid gay arse twatty thing to do. We got a bit of cash in to do up the ground but we're now -500 million.

Oh fearsome tweak all this I am going to become a trillionaire and buy united. Then we'll see who's laughing when I buy Pele. I'll open a bank, I think everyone needs a trustworthy person like me after all the chaos, plus it looks pretty simple. Lend people money you don't have, sell the loan, lend some more, sell the loan.

Enough of this concept of big and all. There is no clear definition, because for someone its having history and trophies, and for some its being amongst the best right now. Manure qualify for both, but then who cares? People who hated them will continue to do so.

Similarly for City, even if they win 20 titles in the next 25 years, and constitute some of the finest players on the planet, Phil and his jingbang will still continue to mock them. But I dont think City will be particularly concerned about the wrath of a PC member.

Personally, I do not like City, but I do not hate them either.

Just like I'm not about the wrath of a 10-team supporting PC member.

Joe, we were still a very big club throughout the 70's and 80's. A lot of that is because of the successes of the Busby Babes, what happened at Munich, how we rebuilt and how we won the European Cup in 68. If that's not history making a club bigger then jesus wept, what is!?

Yes, but to be fair, Chelsea were knocking very loudly on the Champions League door when they were taken over, and bit by bit, they were making progress: they would've got there eventually - although they wouldn't have won the League any time soon. But with Man City, they were struggling! They weren't on the verge of any kind of breakthrough (other than through the trapdoor into the Championship, that is).

And they'll forever be known as the club that sold out to a Sugar Daddy, instead of building themselves up over the years (although they could build for 1,000,000 years and they'd still never be anywhere near the level of Man Utd). :D

Exactly! And lol at '10 team supporting member'! Why can't you make up your mind who you're going to support??

Erm, I don't think I'm the one that needs help to get their memory back. I remember in your domestic team box it saying "Real Madrid, Chelsea, Schalke and Fiorentina".

The really funny thing about this City business is the hypocrisy. For years they were going on about how they still had their roots in Manchester, were run by Manchester people and were the real Mancunians. That's all gone a bit down the swanny eh?:D

I support Real Madrid. If you suffer from memory loss, please get treatment done.

Praising other teams doesnt make me support my team any less.

Nothing wrong with my memory.

That is so true. What are they going to say now?

MB10, your arguments might hold some merit if you didn't agree with EVERYTHING Joe and Phil said especially since Stuttgart was the German team MV followed (at least I think it was)

I happen to agree with what they're saying, what's wrong with that? If I don't agree, then I either say so, or just keep quiet. As for the German team, he's removed that from his profile, along with all the other teams, but I remember there was a very long list before! Who cares who it was anyway? He supports loads of teams, there's no getting away from that, and it's always been my way to choose one team and support them exclusively. What does he do when Real and Chelsea square off, for example?

I have always said I support Real Madrid. The other being teams I like (and also the fact I am aware of football outside Spain). Real Madrid and Chelsea have met before and I've had no problems in supporting Real, even though we lost then.

Fair point it might well have been now you mention it, but it doesn't really change what I'm saying does it?
