Sneijder to Utd - yes or no?

Personally I would much prefer a central midfielder (Modric!) but that is very unlikely now, and with Sahin and Vidal also taken I can't really think of many others. I would take him if there was no one else though.

I have quite a few problems with Sneijder though. Firstly, Rooney regained his form playing behind the front man last season, and an attacking midfielder would probably mean Berbatov has to leave which I'd be gutted to see. Sneijder can play as a centre mid, but he'd need a proper, hardworking defensive midfielder alongside him which Utd no longer have. Spending 30m+ on a 27 year old, it isn't ideal to re-invent his role.

Another problem is that Utd attack through the flanks, and always have under Fergie. I'm not sure a central playmaker like Sneijder is suited to that kind of system. If it was a deeper midfielder they'd be better as they could play diagonal passes out to the wings like Scholes did over the last few seasons.

Another player Wenger should be going after being target by someone else.

Isn't Fletcher that. Plus Jones showed many times he play the role of a DM very well.

Personally i do get a sneaky feeling that Sneijder can adapt to playing a more deep mid-field role. Thus allowing Rooney to stay playing in the the hole like he did last season.

I'd consider Fletcher more of a box-to-box player and having him alongside Sneijder would be very risky. Jones will be a defender first and foremost I think, and will only play in midfield when absolutely required.

He looked extremely ordinary against Man City in my opinion.

Box-to-box?. Nah man Gerrard & Viera at his peak is box-to-box. Sure Fletcher gets forward alot, but he doesn't leave the United mid-field open, he is backing doing his main job as defensive mid-fielder all the time.

Its no coincidence that him not being in the mid-field when Barcelona defeated United in the 09 & 2011, led to United struggling have an impact in that mid-field battle.

On Jones well he is pretty versatile. I dont think SAF will pigeon hold him as a center-half especially when he has Smalling and Evans (although his form dipped alot last season) also to back-up Ferdinand/Vidic.

Nasri's leaving Arsenal. Eto'o lured into Anzhi. Sneijder in a fix. Fabregas selected in the CL sqaud, so probably they're indicating Barcelona to better put a deal in place or get kicked out of negotiations.

Sneijder has confirmed there are 'unofficial talks' between him and Utd, but no official offer has yet been made. If we do get him, he'll be the final piece we need in the puzzle for this season, but I hope Cleverly doesn't get frozen out too much - he's spent enough time away from Utd and might decide to look for a permanent move if he's not getting enough game time. And from an England perspective I want to see him playing as well.

If his C-Shield effort is a potential guide of things to come, the potential purchase of Sneijder may not force him to fringes really. He could certainly get more game time than Carrick or Anderson based on his C-Shield performace going forward.

I still cant get over how Wenger didn't make getting Given a priority. If i where a Gunners fan i would be screaming right now. Everyone knows what area's Arsenal need to improve on - established keeper, strong central defender, defensive mid-fielder replacement for Diaby and left-back.

The obvious options were Given, Samba, Parker, Baines. If he doesn't go all get the latter 3 with funds he gets from the sales of Fabregas and Nasri, it will be clear that the great Wenger has become delusional
