Mata signs up for Chelsea. Couldn't be bothered if some official in Madrid's banging his head for letting him go.

Per..e..z....

Ofcourse selling him might have been a mistake but I honestly believe RM have better players in the current squad than he ever could be. He is still a brilliant player though and since Chelsea are my favourite side in England, I welcome this move.

He may take time to adjust to the physical game they play in England. I think that is the only aspect lacking in most of the Spanish players with several of them now moving to the Premier League, it can only make the Spanish NT even stronger.

Valncia have now sold all their WC winning members. Marchena (Villarreal), Albiol (to us), Silva (Man City), and David Villa (Man Utd). But they have signed Pablo Piatti who I am looking forward to this season. They also already have Pablo Hernandez, Ever Banega, Tino Costa, Chori etc. so the midfield is strong. If I were Emery, I would invest the 23.5 million on defence.

:P

There's more talent in Madrid's youth academy than people anticipate, and that is gutting. Almost all of Barca's first team line up is a package of La masia, no taking away from that but I think that's overrating a bit I reckon. Madrid are not as open to letting their players go as Barca does, but when they do, Someone like Mata goes. lol.

I guess he's signed up primarily as an Essien Replacement. Modric would've been the perfect stop for their search, really. Should Mata now get regular starts, AVB will have to put Ramires on the sidelines, but let's see how the man goes about him this season.

any news about David villa? Is he still leaving Barca? i think not cos fabo's come but just asking.

van Persie, Bendtner and Miyachi are the only strikers. Bendtner isn't good enough and Miyachi is still very young. Walcott and Gervinho are proper wingers but they also need playmaker wide players. If Nasri goes that only leaves Arshavin. I think Mata would've fit in very well as his movement is fantastic and he's a more direct player than say Nasri.
Chamakh? Walcott and Gervinho can play all across the forward line.

Ah, I assumed you had shoe-horned Mata in for one of the wide positions. Yeah, he would've been a good replacement for the role in the hole, so to speak. They could move Wilshere into that role, after all it was the position he played in prior to coming into the first team. Rosicky's still there too, albeit he looks a shadow of the player he used to be.

Will be interesting to see what Wenger does with regards to that vacancy in the role behind RvP.

They look like they've done some smart business this summer with the signings of Diego Alves, Rami, Parejo, Canales and Piatti, as well as clearing out deadwood like del Horno, Vicente, Navarro and Fernandes.

If they get in some quality at right-back and centre-half, they should be able to close the gap on the Spanish Old Firm.

Mata does not even play in the same position and role as Essien. So, he's definitely not the replacement of Essien.

Looks like the deal for Mata is all but done. Modric next please. :lol

Tottenham leave Luka Modric out of Man United trip - ESPN Soccernet

The article gives us the impression that he could be on his way from WHL, given he missed last week's Europa league clash against Hearts, that would have made him ineligible for Chelsea in the CL. Puzzling times ahead! :lol at that pic though.

Redknapp said:
"I think Daniel [Levy] has said he will sit down with Luka in a month or so and have a chat with him and a look at his contract. I want to keep him for sure. I just felt that if he didn't want to be here that much that maybe we might have to sell him. If people don't want to play for you, you might have to sell him and go and get three or four players in.

Redknapp is hoping the signing of Mata is the end of the Modric saga, but Blues owner Roman Abramovich is seemingly ready to spend again.

Actually, had Modric played in the Europa League the other day, he would only be ineligible to play for us in the group stage. As for Harry Redknapp, he must be an idiot if he really thinks Mata joining us would end the interest on Modric!

True but he can fit in for a secondary role. It has to be CM or RM, moving Lampard out of position can be costly. Mikel isn't doing so well right now either.

Knew I forgot someone haha. Chamakh has been pretty poor tbh. As for Gervinho and Walcott, ideally I don't think they should be leading the line. But yeah I meant play Mata behind someone like van Persie. That could've worked really well I think as van Persie would drop deep and Mata could exploit it with his directness.

I think that Rosicky will step up this season. I've always been a big fan and it's a real shame that his injury set him back so much. He showed glimpses last season and now with Fabregas and probably Nasri gone I think he can flourish again.

Mata is no CM. He can be considered as a left winger, right winger or an attacking midfielder, playing just behind the striker.

On Lampard, perhaps AVB needs to make the bravest decision he has ever made by benching Lampard.

Agreed!!

Respect to lamps,, but his time is almost up, he is still a prem player but not at a team fighting for the title.

Cant be a constant starter anymore, we need to look to the future.

Same to drogba, great servant but time to move away from the jose team and build again.

"The work we do is not getting the credit it deserves because we are not winning silverware. It is unfair because I think we have more merit as a club than those who have built their teams with millions of pounds whereas Arsenal have brought in young footballers who have come here to play a certain kind of football and who have developed."

That prize should go to Real madrid. 7 year old leo....

that messed me up. He's a kid, and here's one reason I don't hang on football news sites often. Every site i could find this article on wrote as if he's a genuine grown up footballer signing for a club.

you know what I mean, look at this sentence:

"7 year old Leo signs up with Real Madrid. He's expected to take part in the training from Thursday"

I couldn't find a place where there was none of this "genuine writing". Made me sick.

but hey we have a leo :D
