Football Transfers Thread

Youtube is a pretty rubbish way to judge a talent. It makes players like Denilson look like the best in the world while others like Makelele can look average.

That was from last season anyway. He was very good last season, average this season. He is a great player and is much better than Marin and Kalou, but no way is he worth 38 m, more than someone like Hazard when Hazard is from the better league, younger, and the hottest property in Europe this summer. He is overrated, mostly because of his physical presence.

Are you seriously telling me you'd rather take Hulk for 38 m than Podolski and Kagawa for a combined 25 m?

Anyway it's all speculation at this stage how well he'll do in England. Definitely one of the players to watch.

Surprised but not shocked. Another premier league great leaving. At least he deserves the starting spot he will likely to have at fenerbahce. He should've been preferred to Carroll on a lot of occasions. Nm good luck kuyt.

kuyt was a great player for liverpool. i wont forget that match against man utd were he scored hat trick. surely he will be missed :(

Premier League great? The hat-trick of tap-ins, for which Su?rez deserved most of the credit?

He won't be missed by those sitting behind the goals at Anfield, that's for sure. :p

Easy there man. Kenny made quite a number of mistakes in his 18 month stint. Not starting Kuyt was definitely one of them. Selling Meireles tops the list for me though.

Yes, but the fact is the Portuguese league is nowhere near as strong as the Prem. Drogba came from France, France has a lot more physical league than Portugal does.

Odds are he won't be able to rely so heavily on his strength like he did in Portugal, and he'll find it difficult adapting. It's also this physicality that made him as overrated and overpriced as he is.

Plus his heading ability is nowhere near Drogba's.

He's also excelled in the Europa League and looked very good for Brazil. It's obvious he's a very talented footballer.

The thing with Hulk is, he's capable of wow moments, no matter what. Even when he's playing poor and he's anonymous throughout the game he can just pop up and wallop one into the top corner.

I thought not using Maxi enough was more of an issue.

Kuyt's physical attributes seem to be trailing off, in a similar vein to Park Ji-Sung. Didn't seem quite as powerful a player he was in previous seasons.

Lol, it seems everyone who's replied to me thinks I said he was a terrible footballer. He is a brilliant footballer, just not worth near 38 m and overrated, most likely due to his physical presence.

Yeah Hulk is a pretty typical Brazilian though, capable of wow moments. Doesn't automatically mean he is an exceptional player though - anyone remember Mancini's stepovers against Lyon quite a while ago? That was a breathtaking goal, but the thing is he wasn't that good a player and got sold to Brazil, and is now in jail for ----. I'm not saying Hulk isn't a good player, but just because he comes up with wow moments, that alone shouldn't make him as overpriced and overrated as he is.

Sort of, but the fact that Kenny played Henderson out of position at the wings ahead of Kuyt was definitely more of an issue. Agreed he's well past his best days, but it wasn't like Hendo shone on the wings either.

I doubt Dalglish had much input in that to be perfectly honest.

He did tbh. It was him who preferred Adam and Henderson to start over Meireles and Kuyt at the start of season. Also he had the lowest wages in our team and was stubbornly denied a wage extension by both our owners and Dalglish. Really harsh, considering he was easily our best player the previous season (2010-11) after Lucas.

I think he'll be a hit immediately.

Though he'll need to make an immediate mark or he'll lose his place to Welbeck/Hernandez. Apparently he is playing behind Rooney, so he should be fine and shouldn't need to adapt to a new position.

Though he may be used on the wings if Nani leaves.

What if he's played in the central midfield? He'll certainly need to adapt to that position.

13 goals from a midfielder? I'm very pleased with this signing and at the price we got him for as well.

He's got an annoying habit of scoring against me in Fifa 12. :D

Just in case anyone's lost, we're talking Kagawa who has all but signed for Man Utd. :)
