Football Transfers Thread

On RVP though, I will be physically sick if he goes to United. And I know that is not the worst reaction a fan would make, I wouldn't be surprised if there were riots outside the stadium after that... It's a bit like Liverpool selling Gerrard to Man Utd or Man City selling Joe Hart to Man Utd for us.

I am confident it won't happen.

I'm now confident it will happen. Sir Alex is locked onto the guy like a heatseeking missile, and there are gonna be more talks with Mr Gill this weekend. OK, he isn't a midfield ballwinner, but he would be a fantastic addition to the team and would send a clear statement to City that we intend to get our damn title back! If Arsenal want another ?5m, Sir Alex? Give it to 'em!

A player being sold to a rival club (I use the word loosely - Arsenal haven't really been our rivals for the league for a long time :p ) is no excuse whatsoever for riots, outside the ground or anywhere else.

It's depressing how difficult Spurs are clearly finding this transfer window with no Champions League. If only we'd finished in the top 4... :(

you know, you can root all the blame down to your national FA. No need to blame Chelsea, Arsenal or how modric is a brat. They screwed spurs big time.

:p but on the brighter side getting Vertonghen and Sigurdsson is a decent start so you still have footballers who're all not fussed about playing the CL.

I don't recall blaming anyone but Spurs for bottling 3rd to be honest. We made our own bed, and it's a shame how much it is clearly hurting us.

Bale seems to be wearing the 9 shirt in pre-season... is he going to complete his transformation from left-back, to left-mid, to left-winger, to forward?

Seems like Allen has now signed for Liverpool. Good signing, and if they can get Lucas back up to speed, a decent looking side with some actual fluidity to it. Getting rid of Kenny was definitely needed, he assembled such an average team.

Personally i think these Brazilian kids Lucas, Neymar, Oscar, Leandro are getting over-hyped and all these clubs worldwide are falling for the hype.

They may be talented, but Brazil are still in work in progress for the 2014 world-cup, after struggling since that golden era from the 2006 world-cup were knocked out in the quarter finals.

Its the a MASSIVE question mark if those guys are the real deal IMO.

brazilians are like nike trainers. people pay over the odds for them because being a brazilian attacker is a premier branding.

Hmm, well if we don't sell Agger, suddenly, it doesn't look too bad, considering there might be one or two more additions yet.

-------------Reina-------------
Johnson--Skrtel--Agger--Enrique
----Gerrard---Lucas---Allen-----
---Downing---Suarez---Borini----

The bench is still weak, I'd say. Definitely need some higher quality subs.

Can't wait for the new season! I'm keeping my hopes somewhat low in hoping that Liverpool can perhaps build on a 5th or 6th place finish for the season after this coming one.

Sir Alex being locked onto him means nothing. He isn't dealing with some random Portugese manager or Martin Jol or something, he is dealing with Arsene Wenger. If Arsene doesn't want to sell to Fergie (which is highly likely as no deal has happened between the two managers other than Silvestre IIRC, who was shite and not your best player like RVP is), he isn't going to be sold to Man Utd.

Doesn't rule out him going on a free next year, but seriously, a 30 year old striker isn't what Man Utd would need.

Would be a good improvement over Welbeck/Hernandez/Berbatov though.

Right now that tag should be bestowed upon Spanish youngsters and not Brazilians based on evidence of that last 5-6 years.

Is the Dempsey deal dead?

Dempsey deal is still alive from what I'm hearing. The players he's targeting (according to media sources that I wouldn't readily believe) are Walcott/Johnson/Tello, Sahin on loan (BR said he's looking at a couple of loan deals for some "quality" players and it's being said that he may use his relationship with Mourinho to push this one through), Dorus De Vries (replacement for Jones), and of course, Dempsey. I think the Walcott deal is highly unlikely (I think Arsenal would ask for 20m+) and the Johnson deal probably hinges on a player + cash deal for Agger which may or may not happen. The Tello rumors aren't gathering much pace and I'd say that is dead for now. Dempsey deal seems the most likely at the moment and it is being said that maybe Charlie Adam will be used to sweeten the deal.

Of course, all speculation. As Rodgers said, as soon as Liverpool are interested, teams add one or two zeros which really slows down or in some cases, kills deals.

You forgot Gaston Ramirez. His agent's apparently in London to strike a deal with an English club, believed to be either Spurs or Liverpool.

Ideally would love a couple of CAMs and wingers, and probably an LB too, to act as cover for Jose Enrique, considering Jack Robinson's still young and inexperienced. But Rodgers' liking for Downing means we'll at the most sign one winger.

Think Liverpool need a striker tbh. Borini is a solid signing but he's more of a system player rather than a spark in attack and Suarez' best position is out wide. He doesn't have clinical enough finishing to play up front.

Yep, that's my thinking too. Suarez generally plays on the right of a 4-3-3 for Uruguay and I think he did the same for Ajax as well. That's where he flourishes.
