Football Transfers Thread

Not really, the RVP and Modric sagas were far worse.

Never compared them...

Not buying anything for the time being, but if he joins Arsenal, I'll officially stop paying heed to any transfer news from any website (barring skysports) whatsoever. Cos all our "reliable" inside sources confirmed this was 100% happening for us (Sahin to LFC).

As you said it yourself, best not to believe anything until the club officially confirms any transfer deals themselves.

Our incredibly reliable source has since confirmed the same. Supposedly LFC and Madrid agreed everything, but Sahin stalled the deal (as requested to by Wenger) to see if Song would leave, an he has. The CL seems important to him. I have no doubt that the deal was almost in place, and had been agreed between LFC and Madrid so your inside sources are somewhat correct.

Can't go wrong with BBC and Sky Sports.

Sahin isn't a defensive mid though, he's a deep-lying playmaker. Arsenal's problem last season was that they sent too many players forward and were left isolated at the back - how is replacing Song with Sahin going to change that?

Never said he was one.

I see him as cover for Wilshere (who I doubt will play in 2012), and also as a long term replacement for Arteta. We collapsed without Arteta as well last season, so bringing in Sahin as cover is great, we need depth. Wilshere isn't guaranteed to be the same player as well when he comes back.

We don't need a true DM though at all times, Arteta and Sahin can contribute enough defensively. Both stay back and Sahin certainly can make interceptions and tackles to win the ball back, though he like Cazorla and Arteta will be poor in aerial duels. An Arteta-Cazorla-Sahin midfield certainly is lightweight for the PL, but I reckon it would cut it in Europe. Last season Song was responsible for most of the creativity from midfield, now it's all Cazorla, so it'll be good to have creativity from deep as well in Sahin. About the closest we can get to Xabi Alonso in the team, and having such creativity from deep is something we haven't had for a long while - back when Fabregas played deep was the last time I can remember.

Really we need two midfielders though, an M'Vila type and Sahin. Knowing Arsene though Diaby will be our main physical presence in midfield.

Sahin wants Arsenal, but Mourinho wants to send him to Liverpool as he likes Rodgers and hates Wenger.

Liverpool almost successfully hijacked the Arsenal deal, but now it looks like Arsenal are hijacking the hijack.

Hijacking the hijack, that's good. :D

Sigh that's Nuri Sahin definitely joining Arsenal then. Not like he'd have signed for Liverpool anyway, especially after watching us getting hammered today. :p

I don't think so Arsenal too would've made a good impression to him on their first match. :p

Yeah Sahin would be a good signing. First match was decent for us, some very good showings and a couple of poor ones two. 100% better than Liverpool for sure.

Don't think he cares how we do. He likes Wenger a lot, Wenger complemented him when he was 16, he wanted to sign him, and called him the best midfielder of his age in the world. Surely that and CL makes almost certain he'll join Arsenal. Only reason to join Liverpool is Mourinho wants him to and Xabi Alonso may have said good things about him.

If he wants to make it at Madrid, Liverpool would certainly make more sense.
