Football Transfers Thread

I find it funny how you compare him to Pirlo of all people. Pirlo is a liability defensively.

Oscar playing deep is some funny stuff.

Some of your recent posts make me wonder if you've ever seen a football game before.

The only reason I compared Oscar to Pirlo was Pirlo's transformation from a number 10 into a DM/CM. Chelsea, in many matches this season, missed someone like Mata or KdB, someone who can unlock deep defenses. Oscar as a number 10 works very well against teams of equal/superior strength because he presses very well, but it does not work well against inferior teams because of the same reason. It is in these kind of matches we need a "creative" number 10. One thing you should notice when Oscar plays for Brazil is that he occasionally drops deep and plays along with Paulinho, with Gustavo playing almost like another defender or a deep DM, except for the Uruguay match where Paulinho moved forward. And yeah, I do understand that what I say sometimes does not make sense. It is maybe because of my not-so-good English that I cannot express myself fully.

Oscar not a creative player? Deeper role? Oscar vs Pirlo?

enough internet for today...

you might have a point but realistically chelsea have no dearth of players who can play in the deeper midfield role. I don't think Mourinho would go bonkers and play him there.

Oscar , who plays the number 10 role for Chelsea, hasn?t created enough chances, considering he kept Juan Mata, one of the best creative midfielders in Premier League in last 2 seasons, on the bench. For eg. ,When he scored that FK against stoke, he created only 2 key passes in the game. We can say that Oscar is more of a number 8 player than a number 10 player because Oscar tracks the field well and covers the defensive midfielder spot when the deep MF runs forward to support the attack, but he lacks the creativity and vision to play the key passes. I am not saying he is bad, but Chelsea need creativity which he cannot give. Chelsea have become very predictable now, some 2 or 3 defenders mark Eden, When that happens, Chelsea rely on Oscar to make the ways for strikers to score, which does not happen. Jose Mourinho picks Oscar as his number 10 due to his defensive contribution and ball retention. Now that Chelsea have Nemanja Matic to do the same , Chelsea need more creative number 10 players as an alternative when Oscar is underperforming and to give Oscar a competition for the role.

Btw, when I mean DM, I do not expect Oscar to play like Claude Makelele, I meant playing him as a CM with more emphasis on defensive duties.

Great CB, too bad he's almost 30. At most he'll give them 2-3 years of good service before he declines. Adaptation time has to be considered too, and it looks worse.

The fee which has been thrown around is huge as well, ?25 m I think.

Overall it's an underwhelming signing for Man Utd IMO, but a step in the right direction at least.

Sad to see this special Atletico team being disbanded. They are possible the top team in Europe and they are losing all their best players without much of a fuss to inferior teams...

Yep, similar situation with Dortmund last year & it exposes one of slight problems with EURO top club football. Any team that challenges the big money elite clubs like Atletico & Dortmund, are almost resigned to losing their best players.

Of course you have the clubs in EURO that have accepted they can only be spending/development clubs - but it doesn't look god that mid-level financial clubs should also be losing players to the elite clubs so easily.

Miranda is a top CB and finally maybe he will have nicer things to say about Ronaldo.

Expect this summer to be a top draw for defenders all over europe.

Arsenal transfer news: Swansea announce shock Lukasz Fabianski signing with Vine video | Metro News

Very good deal, IMHO. Lukasz is really underrated and can be a good GK for mid-table sides.

Yeah he's a great keeper. He's always been great at shot-stopping, but he had other shortcomings that stopped him from getting the number 1 jersey. He seems to have ironed those out but there was no way he was getting past an established keeper who was younger than him in Szczesny.

He will be playing regularly for the first time in a while and we'll get to see more clearly how he has improved in the last few seasons. Look at how Mannone is doing at Sunderland after getting a good run of games, Lukasz will easily surpass him since he's the far better keeper.

I expect Vorm to be on his way out with this signing, no way Lukasz is sitting on the bench again.

Good thing they updated his Wikipedia page already too.
