Tbh, we could've played Oscar next to Matic in a 4-2-3-1. His tackling and passing abilities make him ideal in the pivot. We could've played Mata/KdB as the number 10 to give us that creative ability which Oscar does not.
Bit late to the party, but I think Dav here has been unfairly targeted for something he said the day before, I think Oscar as one of the 2 in a 4-2-3-1 or as one of the mid 3 in a 4-3-3 is worth a try, if he can't break into the XI in his preferred position that is, like Pirlo couldn't when Kaka arrived at Milan.
Really if you think about it, you don't need pace, physicality or defensive and tackling abilities to be a deep-lying playmaker, Pirlo has none of that, but if you have the vision, touch, control, passing and dribbling abilities, you can more than make up for it, like Pirlo has. It would be damn ironic if Oscar ends up a regista after being touted for his similarities with Kaka, given the role he played in Pirlo's transition.
One thing that definitely goes against Oscar from the get go is I really can't think of anyone else that got turned into a deep-lying maker after their teenage years, maybe Modric?
But he is earning less at Gala than he was at Inter. He apparently earned 6M euros at Inter and he is earning 3.2 at Gala, according to google.
It was still the most on the table compared to what Inter were offering, and what a couple of other PL clubs were offering (Pool and Spurs), and you can't really blame Sneijder for picking the best wage deal he could get at that time, he has already won a treble, Italy's only treble I believe, so really from a football perspective, he was never going to achieve something greater (unless you want to be greedy
), and he clearly wasn't the player he once was.
