Football Transfers Thread

Yea basically. Not taking any jabs at the poster, but obviously a lot a people have their biases against Rooney. They either dislike him personally or feel for some reasons he didn't live up to the hype that some "expected" him become after that famous goal when he was 16 & EURO 2004.

Not just that one goal, but his performance throughout the tournament, until picking up that blasted metatarsal injury vs Portugal.

He has never looked like the same player as he did in that tournament. He's a very good club level player, but he's not in the bracket of player he often got placed in whenever he hits a vein of form.

No doubt about it - he hasn't fully realised the potential he demonstrated back in 2004. Back then, he terrorised defences - you can't really say he does that now. :(

Apologies for going back several pages but thought I should reply to this:p.

Well, it was successful in the sense that he won something, but it was also unsuccessful in the same sense that he played no part in the League triumph last season.

People were saying that in terms of his performances it was a successful move. Clearly not the case. He never did it for us other than half a season and he's not even given half a season of proper service to Man City. He is another Hleb, he has stagnated at Man City and has ruined his career.

(I know he had something like 9 assists in the league last season, but so does Podolski this season, so der, numbers do kerplucking lie, sometimes.)

I completely disagree about Podolski. The guy is a brilliant crosser, our best easily and people like him with amazing shots are bound to get assists from the keeper palming the ball to a team mate.

Funny you bring up RVP, Juventus themselves were chasing him around like mad dogs all through the summer, only to not sign him...

That's what tells me they won't get Jovetic, they didn't fork out the money for RVP when they clearly needed someone, they could signed him for under 20 million probably. Llorente is the best they'll get, and tbh they could still run away with the title for seasons to come with just him, I mean they've been surviving with Matri and Quagliarella...

Jovetic has had a very average season no? At least that's what I've heard from a view of my friends that actually follow the Serie A(Milan fan boys :rolleyes).

He was outstanding at the start of the season, then dropped off a bit but is coming back to his best form. He is injury prone but still brilliant. He has all the ability, and could easily become like RVP in the future, a striker who creates chances for himself. He has a lot in his locker and soon enough he'll be absolutely brilliant whatever club he's at once he is free of injuries.

Agreed, he's just never got going at City and he's got to go now. :wave

Might have to agree to disagree on this one, don't rate Podolski at all lol.

I personally don't see it either, plus he plays for Fiorentina... Llorente I think will do fine in Italy, maybe even better than fine, I just hope this year of doing basically nothing hasn't affected his game.

Ah, gotcha, glad to see him fit and playing well then.

The latest on the Ronaldo rumours is that Utd and Nike are working together to get Ronaldo back to Old Trafford. Silly season has got started early this year it seems!

That could be a catastrophe for City, I can't think of anybody who could do that box to box role for them, although Milner could do a decent job there I guess.

I hope you were only kidding Bevab... (Milner is tragic!)

If he does leave, we should definitely bid for him (whether we get him or not is a different story of course, but it's definitely worth a shot). He'd be just the ticket to shore up our midfield, and it would be a fitting reposte for the Tevez transfer as well. :D

Looking at it from a City fan's point of view, they should move Heaven and Earth to get him to stay - there are very few players like him around. He's a good holding midfielder, but he also makes great attacking runs and scores a fair few goals.

Problem is that he looks shot after 60-70 mins in CM and we've already got two others in Cleverley and Anderson who do the same.

There are younger, more reliable alternatives for Utd, others that wont miss part of the season at the African Nations Cup and aren't on ?250k a week.
