3) M Di Venuto (c)
4) C Bassano
5) Hassan Adnan
6) L Sutton (wk)
7) N Dumelow
8) G Welch
9) N Gunter
10) Mohammed Ali
11) K Dean

Hampshire:

1) D Kenway
2) J Crawly

6) N Pothas
7) A Masceranas
8) S Udal
9) C Vaas
10) C Tremlett
11) A Mullally

Hampshire won the toos and surprisingly elected to bat on a very green pitch, i would have chosen to bowl anyway because its going to be hell batting on it as it will do all sorts of things, uneven bounce, extreme seaming etc. We should find it easy to take wickets and bowl them out under the 170 mark. The weather is sunny and cool with no chance of rain.

Division 1 Fixture:

Derbyshire Vs Hampshire:
Day 1:
Lunch:

Hampshire:
84/6

Mascerenas: 42*
Udal: 2*

Hampshire lost an early wicket to a silly runout in the 8th over, Crawly played a great shot off his hips and tried to come back for a second that wasnt there, he had to walk for 3, but their problems didnt stop there, Sahid Afridi's Leg Spin claimed 4 wickets in this first session, his first two victims were Katich and Taylor, both went for Ducks as he picked up a double. Graham Welch struck next and the pitch showed its first sign of greeness, the ball angling across straughtned freakishly and Kenway got stuck between the ball and the wickets, he went for 7. Afridi stuck again after a flick off the hips went wrong and the batsmen thick edged to a diving Hassan Adnan who took a wonderfull catch to dismiss Pothas for 9. Hampshire found themselves at 19/5 after just 10 Overs and panic should have set in, it didnt as Mascerenas battled on, being dropped twice and barely getting through the slips once he was the only batsman to reach double figures, however other batsmen werent so lucky as Afridi outsmarted Kendall with a flipper that he thin edged to Sutton behind the stumps, he was dismissed for 9. So at lunch on the first day Hampshire are struggling with only four wickets left they may well fall short of even the 170 Derbyshire said would be an easy target, but if Mascerenas stays in then they may be alright.

Division 1 Fixture:

Derbyshire Vs Hampshire:
Day 1:
End Of Innings:

Hampshire:
206 All Out

Tremlett: 6*

Hampshire battled on with the help of Mascerenas but even he wasnt enough to push then to a decent total as they slumped to 206 all out. The saviour blasted to 50 a few balls after lunch and his luck was running high, he has carried Udal and his partnership past the 50 mark. His batting partner had a narrow escape as a slower ball by Ali forced him through his shot earlier than expected but he was dropped in the slips, it appeared not to be derbyshire day in the field. After a spell of excellent batting aided by some shoddy bowling Mascerenas got to show the face of his bat again as he reached his Century in style by blasting Sahid Afridi back over his head for 6, a fantastic innings. Ali was replaced my Kevin Dean in the attack and he had an immeadiate effect, dismissing Udal for 35, he was caught by Gunter at mid on. Dean picks up his second wicket as he has Vaas caught in the slips who finally take a catch, Bassano does the work at 3rd and Vaas has to walk for 5. Afridi gets his Fiver and he gets it in style by dismissing Mascerenas for 117, bowled him an off spinner instead of a leggy and got it through the gate, it hit middle wicket and Mascerenas left to a huge applause. Afridi got his 6th next ball as Mullally gets stumped by Sutton on 0, a poor effort by the Hampshire batsmen, only two managed to get into two figures and they were carries by Mascerenas, lets hope they bowl better than they bat.

Derbyshire Bowling Figures:

Sahid Afridi: 6/87 from 19 overs including 3 maidens.
Kevin Dean: 2/32 from 6 overs including 0 maidens.
Graham Welch: 1/7 from 5 overs including 2 maidens.

Division 1 Fixture:

Derbyshire Vs Hampshire:
Day 1:
Derbyshires 1st Innings:
Tea:

Derbyshire:
60/2

Gait: 38*
Bassano: 0*

Derbyshires openers Gait and Afridi pick up 12 runs from the first 2 overs and look good at the crease but their confidence wavered when Gait was dropped on 10. They continue to bat sensibly, hitting the bad bals away and picking up 1's and 2's as they go allong and Afridi boosts his score with a six down the ground. Sahid Afridi is the first to go as he is clean bowled by Mullally for 18, he looks dissapointed and walks off the field with a four, a six and a bad shot to his name. Di Venuto goes after only two balls, the first was clipped down to third man for a 2, the second was chipped to mid on off the bowling of Mullally who picks up his second wicket, the captain is dismissed for 2. The calm and collected Bassano defends the balls that are left in the over and walks off to tea with his wicket still in hand. Derbyshire will be looking to get a few more runs that this if they are to win the match but good batting from Gait so far.

Division 1 Fixture:

Derbyshire Vs Hampshire:
Day 1:
End of Innings:

Derbyshire:
296 All Out Lead by 90 runs

Welch: 0* (Did Not Face)

Shortly after tea Gait pushed the ball down to 3rd man and got two to bring up his half century, a fine piece of batting but he needed to get his head down and push on for more which they do as they make 71 for the 3rd wicket, it was going to be a long way back for hampshire if they didnt break this partnership soon. Bassano brought up his Half Century also and both batsmen can be proud because they really did bat superbly, passing the 100 partnership mark. Hampshire tryed to find some inspiration but all they found was Derbyshires bats as Gait smashed another boundary and romped to his Century with Bassano looking good on 70*. Tremlett makes the breathrough Hampshire were craving a few balls later to dismiss Bassano on 72 after a great catch by Taylor, good news for Hampshire but with Adnan, Sutton, Dumelow and Welch to come, all big hitters, they look to be in a lot of trouble. Gait is the next to go as Kendall is mobbed after taking the catch from Tremletts bowling, thats two big wickets for Kendall and some great bowling. Gait goes for 134 and a standing ovation sends him off. Adnan has an under par knock as he is dismissed on 31 by Mascerenas after trying to put a bad ball away, it flew straight into the arms of the very present Kendall who took a hard catch. Dumelow is then dismissed by Vaas on 1 and Hampshire cant believe there luck, this time Pothas is the catcher at long on. Vass gets another wicket and sends Welch back for 5 from 5 balls, clean bowled, off stump is back by the wicket keeper, thats 3 of the last 4 Dangermen gone for Derbyshire but Sutton is still there and going well. Derbyshire collapse even further when Gunter is dismissed for a duck by Mascernenas, this time its middle stump that goes flying, good bowling, poor batting. Ali doesent make a big impression either as he is caught at square leg by Tremlett on 1 and Derbyshire pick up just 7 runs from the last 4 wickets. Their innings are rounded off as Sutton tries to smash one of the groun and misses as Vaas claims his 3rd victim. Sutton goes on 23.

Hampshires Bowling Figures:

C Vaas: 3/112 from 17.3 overs with 0 Maidens
A Mullally: 2/61 from 7 overs with 0 Maidens
C Tremlett: 2/92 from 7 overs with 0 Maidens
A Mascerenas: 3/22 from 3 overs with 0 Maidens

Division 1 Fixture:

Derbyshire Vs Hampshire:
Day 2:
Lunch:

Hampshire:
37/5 - Trail by 53 runs

Katich: 7*
Mascerenas: 3*

Hampshire batted out the last over of Day 1 and finished on 1 for no wicket but the start of the second day left them stranded and on the brink of losing by an innings and then some. Kenway was the first to go in the second over after a peach of a ball by Welch, an outswinger that seamed away toward the slips, pitched on off stump, the batsman took the bait and Di Venuto took a dolly in the slips to dismiss him for 3. They then lost there second opener for just 1. Dean swooped to take his first wicket, a ball pitched on middle stump and angling across cut in and thin edged to a diving Luke Sutton who took a marvelous catch. Dean followed up in the same over with his second wicket, a bit more pace sees Taylor edge to 3rd slip where Sahid Afridi takes another easy catch to dismiss him for 2. The on form Dean collected his 3rd before lunch with another fantastic ball, one that straighted up an cut back in to thin edge to Graham Welch at 1st slip to dissmiss Kendall for just 1. Gunther joined in the fun to get his first wicket before lunch, he sends Pothas back for a dismall 3 after Di Venuto takes another slip catch. All eyes are on Mascerenas at the moment and the game seems to rest on him, he wont have much of a chance though if he doesent get himself in first, these Derbyshire bowlers look top class.

Division 1 Fixture:

Derbyshire Vs Hampshire:
Day 2:
End Of Innings:

Hampshire:
95 all out lead by 5.

Mullally: 0*

A fantastic flipper from Sahid Afridi opens the wicket taking after lunch as he sends Katich packing for 13 as the batsman played it as a leg spinner and outside edged it to Nathan Dumelow. Udal has a scare first ball as he is dropped, very lucky as he gets to carry on his partnership with Mascerenas which was over the hundred mark in the last innings. Udal is dropped a second time, bad fielding by Derbyshire. Sahid Afidi celebrates the early departure of Mascerenas, the first innings centurian goes for just 7 after Nathan Dumelow takes a diving catch to dismiss him. Afridi takes two in a maiden over as he has the new bastsman caught, again by Dumelow and sent back for 0. Tremlett escaspes with his wicket on 8 as he edges past the slips, a very lucky man. Dean is denyed another wicket but picks up his 4th a few balls later to dismiss Tremlett after a good knock of 23, caught by bassano in the slips. The Hampshire innings ends on a desperation runout as Udal calls for a 3rd that clearly isnt there and is dismissed on just 7 leaving Hampshire with the job of bowling a few overs to the Derbyshire batsmen before going home as they lead by 5 going of the pitch which means Derbyshire require six to win.

K Dean: 4/59 from 22 overs with 5 maidens.
G Welch: 1/16 from 12 overs with 5 maidens.
N Dumelow: 0/5 from 3 overs with 0 maidens.
N Gunter: 1/2 from 2 overs with 1 maidens.
Sahid Afridi: 3/2 from 4 overs with 2 maidens.
Mohammed Ali: 0/6 from 3 overs with 0 maidens.

Division 1 Fixture:

Derbyshire Vs Hampshire:
Day 2:
Derbyshires 2nd Innings:

Derbyshire:
6/1 win by 9 Wickets

Di Venuto: 6*
Sahid Afridi: 0*

Derbyshire required only 6 runs to win the match and it took them only two balls but the first one was a wicket. Gait played a sweep at a straight ball and it went on to hit his pads after it had straighted up, he went off the pitch looking dissapointed and Vaas looks ecstatic, a first ball wicket wasnt going to save them though as Derbyshire Captain Michael Di Venuto smashed a six out of the ground and Derbyshire took a 9 wicket win allong with 19 points from the match.

Hampshire Bowling Stats:

C Vaas: 1/6 from 0.2 overs with 0 maidens.

Derbyshire go to the top of the Frizzel County Championship Division 1 table after the match but no other teams have played yet. They have 19 points with 2 Bowling and 3 Batting.
