Your Cricket General Bowling Thread

Well im young (15) and relatively fast in my opinion so yeh thats me :p

Nice work Tom. I've been wanting to improve my pace and seam presentation, so changing my stock ball slightly might help. I normally bowl with my thump on the side of the ball, which i feel slows the ball down and also stops the seam coming down straight. Will try the swing techniques in the nets on thursday. Cheers once again Tom !!.

Unfortunatly my game wasnt on tonight, but i will be sure to use your incredibly tips on Thursday Tom...bloody weather

Whilst the swing grips are fairly easy to master, I'd suggest working on the cutters in the nets for a while. It took me a little while to master them and even know I need a bit of fine tuning at the start of the season.

Once you've really mastered them they can and will be a very lucrative asset in your arsenal.

now a days,i get an extra Reverse swing, that you can do by putting the shiny side of the ball or the heavy side of the ball facing in and release it seaming left just as an out-swinger.

I have lot of tips,i'll post more.:D

right, so for a right handed bowler, you'd have the seam pointing to the slips with the shiny side facing towards the east ? Sounds like a plan

That would master some pretty neat outswing and if the conditions and ball health is good, it would cause out cut aswell, hopefully you'd get swing before the ball bounces, then some cut, and then some devistatingly late swing, but balls like that are sometimes just too good, and are wasted on lesser batsmen who dont deserve the effort :p Well only local rivals dont deserve the effort!

Tried some of the tips in the net tonight AA :D. Changed my grip to the traditional outswinger grip, with my thumb on the seam instead of the side. It took a while to get used to but my line and length seem to have improved with it. I also tried a few cutters and have the off cutter pretty nicely. Got a few to really knip back off the seam, fantastic tips AA :D. I'll try the leg cutter next week, i tried one and it went alright, didnt exactly feel comfortable though.

The leg cutter for me feels dam wierd but the few times ive tried it in game its never gone for a boundry, ive tried it 3 times, purposefully :p Im not comfortable with bowling Medium pace but i have tried in the 20/20 group, and i went alright!

They can take a little while to get used to. You may find that you're happier just having the one at your disposal - better to bowl one really well than two averagely.

Have you got a decent slower ball?

If your talking to me A_A, no :p

I dont tend to bowl Medium pace like i say, but im interested in developing more than just my SLA. And i have a decent off-cutter but i think that comes with knowing how to turn a ball.

Was replying to KP but had to nip out to move the car and you snuck in between!

Do you get much turn with your SLA?

Yeh, will work on the off-cutter, cant be bothered to work on a ball that doesnt feel comfortable. And no, i dont have a slower ball. Any tips ?

Erm...I can get it to turn towards the slips, for an allrounder whos mainly a batter im confident enough, and my old coach (From under 16's) always says that i'd be able to sit comfortably as a frontliner without a main spinner, but in the mens age as im playing up, in essence, a year up, so yeah for my age and being a AR batsmen, i'd say im ok with the spin of the ball, i dont turn it square if thats what your asking, except the once where 5th slip/gully man caught one which turned like it'd hit a brick wall off a huge crack.

A few -I know of about 10 or 11 ways of bowling one. Will get some pictures up over the weekend (time permitting) as well replacing the swing ones with some of my own.
