Depends how much cash you have atm. If you have enough go for it, but it would be ideal to wait until the fixtures are out and do it then, at least you shouldn't have a long wait till your first home game then.

I can afford it now. May as well do it. Theres a calculator for it isn't there...

Should be in the links section, but as FF said, do it that the finishing time is close to your first home game, otherwise you're losing cash.

When you put in all the figures in the upgrade box it'll give you a quote and time frame for it to be completed.

out of interest, do we get a batch of new players when the new season ends? like some new youngsters who do we only get to promote them from our academy?

If you're a noob, I'd suggest that you wait another season. Afterall you need to have accumulated some ITS to gaurantee a decent pull - minimum mediocre - and that takes up some cash as well as having your academy in a condtion in which you can use the maximum amount of ITS on a player.

Have you saved any ITS up? Also what state is your academy in?

I haven't got any ITS, I used them earlier in the season. Not knowing what they did :p. My Academy is in respectable condition.

Rather not for this season then, you could make some pulls without them and hope for something decent, although that won't be likely and you'd have to be incredibly lucky. My advice is to wait until next season, and from week 7 start investing 10k pw, I'd reccomend 20k but it takes 30k to upgrade your academy and it'll probably be pretty crap by the end of next season, so a good trade off will be to have less ITS but a decent academy rather than trying to max out both.

Older players

Has anyone bought an older batsman (33+) and used him in a pinch-hitting role with any success? Or does their worthless stamina mean they can't even hit a quick 30 from 20 balls in a OD match?

Sometimes I wonder if it would be worth a gamble to buy a really cheap (less than 100K) old player and then just fire him after his initial contact is finished, especially during a cup run...

Rather than concentrating for a short span of matches, i'd prefer to look long term, Although you are thinking along the lines that i used to think, it isnt a great idea. I am leaving the choice upto you, I want you to enjoy battrick, not just follow the general guidelines that people give and follow it, you wont enjoy battrick then...

30+ year olds lose 1 level of stamina per season, thats not bad if the cheap player has prof+ stamina. People, especially educated noobs, tend to think that old age means poor player. But it does not mean that he wont perform, age has no effect on performance.
If the guy you buy is the best or one of the best in your team, then he is probably a hood buy. But if he is just going to replace your worst player just because he has 1 or 2 levels higher primary, then he isnt a shot to go for. He wont be improving along with your other team mates, consequently, slowing down your teams progress. Winning tomorrow is not important, ensuring that your team can win for the coming seasons, even if you lose tomorrow is what is essential.

P.S. I havent said a no or a yes, the choice is yours, I have just given you things to think abt. Enjoy battrick...
