The current threads going on atm, like the best all-rounder and Great India's Cricketer of the week have got me into research mode. And what do you do if you have research mode? Start a draft!

Not going to lie - the idea for this one has been copied shamelessley from cricketweb. But I think it can be pretty interesting. It's a variant of Jason's last draft. The idea here, like Jason's, is on specific generations. But instead of rounds of countries, there will be rounds for each generation.

I'm thinking the format would be some something like:

Round 1: 1877-1899 & 1971- 1990
Round 2: 1900 -1927 & 1951 - 1970
Round 3: 1991 - 2011
Round 4: 1877-1899 & 1928 - 1950
Round 5: 1900 -1927 & 1971 - 1900
Round 6: 1928 - 1950 & 1951 - 1970

So apart from Round 3, we all have two picks per round. One from each.

Rules:

1) The player has to have played the majority of their careers in that generation. I think for most cases, it's pretty clear. For e.g. Even though Viv Richards played in the early 90's, he'll only be counted in '71-'90. But if an exceptional case does turn up, I think it'll lead into some good discussion :)

2) A minimum of 10 Tests sounds like a fair criteria.

3) Same as Jason's - you must have atleast 2 left-handers. And for a wicket-keeper batsman, only his stats as a keeper would count.

4) Time limit: 18 hours for each pick. If you need longer, just post beforehand.

5) No Bradman. I need to be fair, otherwise who ever picked him first will automatically have the best team. However, I am assigning the lot numbers... :spy

6) Presentation. Please make your posts informative. No fun if it's just the name. You can include anything and everything you want - pics, stats, a famous highlight, wisden accolade etc... the list is endless!

And most of all, have fun! :)

I'd like about 10 sign-ups. That would make 11, including myself. Don't know if I'll get any where near that, but a minimal of 5-6 would be workable.

Can I be in? :)

This sounds good. I'm in. :)

:thumbs Good to have all of you on-board.

Forgot to post about presentation. Please include pictures when you make your picks, and a paragraph explaining why you chose him. It'll make this draft so much more interesting, and should lead into some good discussion.

And no Bradman. Humans only :p

Ha, think I'll just put these in the rules.

I'll have a go as well Papa, it sounds interesting and yes, always good to delve into cricket's history. So you want to lessen the number of modern players? Just checking because having only 3 players from the 70s and later is not much when most of the 2000 Tests have happened since then. I don't mind that though, will make for a much more historical draft :)

If you need me to you the magic mod powers for anything let me know :D

Well this seems interesting but I'll prefer being a spectator as I have absolutely no knowledge of players who played before the 70s.

@Papa Smurf
I think your format rounds are ideal according to timeline.:thumbs

Nice to have User, Shravi and Jason :thumbs

Yup. Like I said, I'm into research mode, and I really don't know about that many players before the 70's. Should be a fun exercise.

If you need me to you the magic mod powers for anything let me know :D

Cheers mate. Will do!

Well this seems interesting but I'll prefer being a spectator as I have absolutely no knowledge of players who played before the 70s.

Up to you Yudi. But my knowledge is pretty limited as well about players before the 70's. Which is why I think it will be more fun to participate - you'll learn a lot more by looking up old interviews and articles yourself :) And I could make sure you get the first pick in Round 6, so Sehwag would be a guarantee for your XI ;)

Are you in then, Varun?
