HonoursGlenorchy Knights grew out of "Glenorchy Croatia", one of the state's more successful clubs having won many leagues and cups, when it was decided in 1997, that ethnic affiliations should be ended for football clubs in Australia. Prior to that, Glenorchy Croatia had been largely dependent upon the ex-patriot Croatian community for the bulk of its players.
Glenorchy Croatia was born in 1957, and experienced almost immediate success, winning the state title for the first time in 1963. They experienced their best success in the 1970's, winning three titles, before having a league lull in the 1980s. However, re-branded as the Glenorchy Knights they have slowly established a new sense of self, culminating in winning the State Championship for the first time in 13 years in 2005, and narrowly missing out on back to back state titles by losing a penalty shoot-out to Somerset in 2006.
In 2008 Glenorchy Knights will be joining the A-League with a new manager, and a new team. They have declared interest in playing at North Hobart Oval, and will also be known as The Magpies. joining alongside the Glenorchy District Football Club.
2006 the Glenorchy Knights won the Southern Premier League Title and now they are looking to add the A-League Crown to their collection.

Second New Tasmanian A-League Side?
by Jason Howard
After the news of Glenorchy (Magpies) Knights gaining entry into the A-League a new side Launceston United are looking to enter the league as well. The side finished the 2007 season on the bottom of the Nothern (Tas.) Premier League table, but with the backing of this mysery man they are going to try and sign some players to their club.
The backer who has not been named is said to be placing a lot of faith in the club, and he is also looking to be repaid by the club as soon as the team starts to show some sign of improvement.
The team will be playing at Aurora Stadium, and will share the stadium with the AFL, though the fixture shows there not to be any clashes so the team will be safe to use the Ground without any problems.
The Tasmanian Government, with the aide of Football Federation of Australia are going to build a new stadium, that will replace the Elwick Showgrounds in the States South, in hopes to lure some big time football into the state. The hope is to generate some money to not only improve the standard of the local league but the teams they have made their intentions clear on joining the A-League.
Glenorchy Stadium will be home to the Glenorchy (Magpies) Knights, and will also bring the new push for an AFL side in Tasmania. Glenorchy have already been on the march for players signing David Harding from their Southern Premier League side, as well as signing Falco Walker from Newcastle, and Scott McKissack from Melbourne.
The Croatian alignment may see Croatian players coming to Glenorchy to play, it is known that Glenorchy has been blessed with a lot of talented Croatian born stars playing for the club, the dropping of the Croatian name from the side came as a surprise but a lot of players are still members of the Croatian Club in Glenorchy.
