Story Go Tigers Go - A Bangladesh Story! | ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

Brilliant innings from Tamim Iqbal! A good total posted by Bangladeshi batsmen's on the board but with the batting line up of Indian team, Bangladeshi bowlers will need to do something very special to stop India from winning the match.

Yeah, I do expect India to win without Ishant. Sadly, Ishant doesn't open the batting. ;)

I prefer using this font for World Cup matches because this one is the closest one, which matches with the text "ICC Cricket World Cup 2011" in the logo. :)

Tanim's innings was way too awesome. India to win this match ^_^.

I don't know whether that font is similar to the World Cup font or not, but it is simply amazing. :thumbs

Brilliant update user! Tamim has come to the rescue for Bangladesh at the correct time, that 150* could blight things for India.

266 is a par score, and we've seen Bangladesh get scores like these but they never seem to be able to defend it, this was the case against India in the one day series last year and most probably will be the case here unless shakib has anything to say about it.

India Innings

Indian openers Sehwag and Sachin walked out after the break for the Indian chase. It was a good total by Bangladesh and for India to chase it, some doing was needed. Mortaza along with Syed Rasel shared the new ball for the Tigers. It wasn't too long the Bangladeshi supporters had to wait for the first wicket as Rasel trapped Viru Sehwag plumb in front of the wickets. Umpire Taufel had no hesitation in raising his finger. Dangerous Sehwag was back in the hut as Gambhir walked in. Soon after, Sachin mis-timed one from Mortaza and was caught by Shuvo. Openers were already sent back as India were off to a poor start with 20 for 2. Sehwag's wicket below -

If you think this was it, then wait! Indians ran into further trouble as Kohli was run out without scoring courtesy of running after hitting the ball straight to the fielder. He just didn't look towards Gambhir as he kept shouting 'no, no'. Yuvraj Singh was the next man in pretty early than he would have expected. But, he was out early as well. Rasel was in the middle of a brilliant spell as he went past the outside edge of Indian batsmen many a times. Yuvi poked at one such delivery leading to his downfall. Indians were struggling at 22 for 4 in 5 odd overs. New ball under lights doing just enough caused all the worries for the Indians.

1-1.jpg

Indian spectators were shocked at what had hit them. They needed someone at least someone to last there for sometime. Suresh Raina joined Gambhir in the middle for rebuilding phase of Indian innings. Both the left handers played well and put the lose balls away. Raina looked positive right from the start while Gambhir was conservative in
his shot selection. New ball had done more than enough damage and now was the time for some spin. Both of them handled Bangladeshi spinners very well. Shakib was being put away along with Shuvo. It was beginning to look smooth for the Indians.

2-1.jpg

Just as you thought that, another run out was what came India's way. Very poor running by Gambhir saw him walk back after doing all the hardwork. He just didn't ground his bat! 62 runs partnership for the 5 wicket ended with that as Indians were 84 for the loss of 5 wickets in the 19th over. Indian Skipper MS Dhoni came out to bat, the total which seemed an alright one against the 'mighty' Indian batting was suddenly look like a mountain to climb. Bangladesh were all over the Indians at the moment. World Cup 2007 anyone?

3-1.jpg

It was now upon Dhoni and Raina to take India close. Dhoni seemed to be there with a job at hand. He was aggressive from the outset. Raina supported the skipper pretty well as Indian scorecard ticked on. Spinners were not as effective as they were meant to be bar Razzak who bowled tightly. A little bit of dew on the ground meant they weren't able to grip the ball. Both the batsmen took advantage and scored freely. Everyone thought they had got back the 'Dhoni of early times' when he burst into the national scene.

4-1.jpg

Meanwhile, Raina reached his fifty which included 4 fours and a lone six. It took him 62 deliveries to reach his half century and was looking in good nick.

5-1.jpg

MS Dhoni went about his innings in the same manner as he brought up his fifty off just 40 balls. The partnership for the 6th wicket was becoming a worry for the Bangladeshi skipper as the duo put up 87 runs already when they called for the batting powerplay in the 33rd over. Both were well set and ready to launch especially Dhoni who looked in devastating mood. India's score read 171 for 5 after 32 overs.

6-1.jpg

Shakib brought back Mortaza for the batting powerplay. But, as things not always turn out the way you want them to. Similar thing happened with Indians as Indian captain tried to smack Mortaza out of the ground with a wild swing. He ended up edging the ball to keeper Rahim and a bit of an anti climax there. The very first ball of the powerplay got the wicket as Bangladesh could smell victory.

7-1.jpg

In came Bhajji. The biggest obstacle in Bangladesh's victory was one man, Suresh Raina who was nearing his century. He brought up his hundred soon with a strike rate of 96. He hit 7 fours and 1 six in the course. But, he knew the work was still not over. He had to carry his team across the finishing line. However, he didn't have much left on the other end...

8-1.jpg

Harbhajan Singh lived dangerously at the crease. His 14 came off 23 balls when he decided to go full monty. Mortaza was smart enough to bowl in the block hole. Harbhajan had a mighty swing only to see his castle disturbed. India still needed 45 more runs to win with only two wickets left. Zaheer came in. Raina had a long talk with him. That went in vain as he couldn't resist going for the glory shot. Razzak got Zaheer as India were 233 for 8 with only one wicket left as Ishant Sharma wasn't going to bat.

9-1.jpg

With 32 runs still needed and Praveen Kumar at the other end, all Indian hopes rested on Raina. It was Abdur Razzak that got better of him in the 46th over of the innings as Raina went back to hit one out of the stadium. He missed it but Razzak hit it. 'You miss buddy and I'll hit'. Raina was shattered as Bangladesh once again beat India in a World Cup match. India were 238 for 9 which meant Bangladesh won the match by 27 runs and start their campaign on a high after beating one of the favorites for the title.

10-1.jpg

The crowd at Sher-E-Bangla went berserk as the stadium saw Bangladeshi flags being waved by the supporters. Tigers did roar this time and who knows this might just be their chance...

spr2.jpg

Raina, in the end did all he could but early wickets hurt India badly. One of the very good ODI innings but for a losing cause.

Brilliant performance from the Bangladeshi side in their 1st match. They have started the tournament with a bang! Looking forward to their next match.

Tamin Iqbal making 150 in a one day match  exellent work from Bangladesh, they have played wonderfully well.
Great presentation too mate, it's right up there as the best. Keep it up, i look forward to the next Bangladesh contest.

This is not good.:(
History repeats again.:(Poor start for India losing to bangladesh. They should have win this.Tamim's 150 ruined us.Raina tried hard to give India a victory but he failed and eventually we have to face a defeat.

How did you calculate the S/R as there isn't a form of work in Cricket 07

they'll be calling for tendulkar's retirement and burning effigies of Dhoni in the streets of india tonight :p

Great stuff from the bangla fast bowlers, they put in the extra effort and got the desired result. India took too much for granted here and paid the price, hopefully they are still able to qualify for the knock out stages now.
