you don't win or lose matches with fielding often, but it usually makes a big difference.
all the top teams are picked on their batting and bowling (and wicket keeping) almost no team is made up of the 11 best catchers and ball stoppers in the country. Associates should be able to compete on this level. and while it's unfortunate that we will bowl sitters, too slow, and get out to balls that other teams would put away, we should be able to run down or block 4's occassionally and take catches. Fielding should be more of a priority for small teams, as england showed yesterday, even the best teams get it wrong, but is associate nations can start fielding better than full members they will make many games much closer.
it's like in football, you can't teach players to score from 25 yeards, cut the field with deadly through balls and beat players. But you can make sure they are fit, fast and strong and can compete on physical level with better teams.
