Hindi Cinema Discussion

Saw 5 movies recently.

Water- Great movie. A little too slow for my liking, but it's got a fantastic story which shows the hypocrisy of Indian society.

Well Done Abba- Brilliant acting by Boman Irani. Funny, charming, and eye opening. Low budget movie, but executed very well. Songs are horrible though. It's a slow movie, but it's got a good plot, and is a movie with heart.

Lafangey Parindey- It was decent. Nothing special, but keeps you entertained, I suppose. I don't think Neil Nitin Mukesh is the person to play that character but he did an okay job. The storyline was too corny and predictable however, and the ending was too perfect. She would never end up with him in real life.

Paan Singh Tomar- Great movie and fantastic acting as usual by Irrfan Khan. Great story that sheds light on a person I never knew existed. It's slow but once again, it's a story with heart. Another low-budget marvel.

Baabul- Awful. Awful. Awful. Tries to address the same issue as Water but does an atrocious job of it. Salman Khan at his annoying best in this movie.

other movies I've seen recently:

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu- Wonderful movie. Love Kareena and Imran's acting. A nice uplifting movie. However, these movies with a boring hero and an energetic heroine are getting a little old now.

Break Ke Baad- Predictable story line. Charming at times, boring at others. Imran and Deepika do a decent job.

Kahaani- Great movie. Recommended for all. One of Vidya Balan's best movies. Hated the ending though. Wasn't really necessary.

Anyone seen Bol Bachan. I wanted to show my parents, is it appropriate to watch with them

Haven't seen it, but from the trailers and reviews it seemed a lot similar to What Happens in Vegas. Although What Happens in Vegas was a very good movie, I'm not sure about this, because Bollywood adaptations tend not to be very good compared to their Hollywood counterparts.

Most of them from Netflix, right?:D I have "Paan Singh Tomar", "Well done Abba" and "Break Ke Baad" on my list but I wanted some reviews before watching, and now I have read yours and so I will give them a shot.

Watched Bol Bachchan yesterday. Nice movie, but not as a good as Rohit Shetty's films generally are. The Golmaal series is really good and Singham was fabulous, but this one was just good. Nothing extra-ordinary, but certainly enjoyable for a one time view.

I have mixed reactions on the movie, I liked it but I'm disappointed probably because I had very high expectations from Rohit Shetty!

Singham was fabulous

Oh no, I detest that movie. Rohit Shetty basically repeated the same old hero-beats-politicians formula that's almost guaranteed to succeed everytime in India when you have run out of storylines. A city, metropolitan or obscure, corrupt government, one man with an intense sense of self-righteousness who thinks he's a superhero and he's got a moral duty to purge all the wrongdoers (the politicians of course, who else could it be? Certainly it's them!). And yeah, he does finish up his act, and everyone worships him as a saviour of their souls. Not too mention that while he is a mere human (or is he?), when the adrenaline's surging he can take on a dozen men twelve-on-one and defeat them singlehandedly. Cent percent foolproof formula. People surely going to love it, not because it portrays what is wrong with politicians and our country (although it doesn't, and something like that shown in the movies isn't remotely possible in India), but because it gives them the ultimate 'masala' entertainment. And it's so idiotic it's not even funny.

I mean, there hasn't been any movie based on the 'formula' which has failed to earn zillions on box office.

Barring the first Golmaal, I don't think Rohit Shetty did a very good job on any of his other movies. Perhaps he didn't want to. The Golmaal sequels and All the Best are at least still watchable when you don't try to find anything logical in them. But Singham.....oh my god particle!

Oh I forgot 'I Am Kalam'. Anybody who has not watched it yet, DO IT (legally or illegally). This is a really, really good movie that deserves recognition. Great acting with a very minimal cast, especially considering that 2 of the main characters are young children.

Just returned home after watching Cocktail. First part is fantastic and hilarious (not for kid minded) while the second part becomes a bore as the film progresses. The end is abrupt and crap. Could have been made better if some scenes were given to Dimple Kapadia who has done a marvelous job.

^Watched it yesterday. It seemed a genuine attempt in parts and especially until the intermission, but after the intermission it was just that usual drama and entirely predictable. Not bad, but definitely not a great movie either. Diana was good as a debutante. Saif was good in the first half only, and Deepika, though looking awesome, acting-wise faded a little during the last half.

Cocktail... in the initial stages, Meera (Diana) did too much of OA. Although the second half was predictable, I liked the way it went. I know why Veronica stayed back single (for me:D).

Saif got owned through out the movie. Even in the end, when showing the bloopers with Second Hand Jawani song as back ground score, the last blooper, he was owned:p.

This is, the Saleem pheku:p

Binnu are you kerplucking retarded? Never mind. Don't answer that question, dumbkerpluck. Thanks for kerplucking ruining the movie for me. kerplucking ----.
:facepalm

Do you guys have any idea what a certain Mr. Sooraj Barjatya is doing right now? Today I just drowned myself all over again in tears after watching his Vivah. And I MISS HIM SO DEARLY!!! If he comes back, it will be the best Bollywood news for me in recent times. His films will have its audience no matter what the times are. His films (Hum Saath Saath hain, HAHK, MPK, etc) rejuvenate me big time.
