Hindi Cinema Discussion

Yup!
I won't be going to see MNIK.
It's a big danger to do so!

There is no danger for the cine goers. And the security blanket has got really tighter now.

Owners won't be releasing the movie this weekend.

It will be a huge loss for the production house if the multiplex owners don't release it in Mumbai

Karan Johar has confirmed on Twitter that there is no postponement of the film and that it will release in Mumbai as scheduled.

Waiting for MNIK

People from Pakistan will most likely love the movie even more since it basically takes up the problems of Muslims and argues in favor of them. I however fear that the movie wont do as well as Karan's other hits because in India, people dont generally like films that portray a favorable picture of Muslims (which is BS because eventually you have to got to look at whether the intentions of the maker is geniune or not and not because a particular community is shown in favorable light). I wish the movie does very well in India (SRK-Kajol's 100% blockbuster record as hero-heroine is not broken)

I am going to Watch My name is Khan....Some people in India are idiots I must said.
They just want to bully others because they think different from them, is call freedom of speech people:).
SRK is not apologising anyway, he made this very clear.
why should India lower the standard of their country by stereotyping the whole of Pakistan based on what 10% of its people do. Very simple and clear thoughts.
SRK is not a racist person and after all his parents and family was from Pakistan.

Looks like some theatres in Mumbai are not releasing the film. Sad state of affairs! Its going to seriously affect the business of the film. For the good of the people who have put money in the film (i.e. distributors and Karan Johar), Shahrukh might think of giving an apology to Shiv Sena. It would be disgusting but for the greater good of the people who put money, he can do it. Thats what Rajnikanth did when his Tamil film 'Kuselan' released and at that time, he was torn apart for his comments on the Karnataka and the Hogenakkal issue. He apologised and the film ran in Karnataka.

Mumbai being the hub for Bollywood, I guess the movie wont be as big a hit if it releases only in a few places in Mumbai.

Rajeev Masand (most popular critical reviewer) has given the film 3.5 out of 5 stars and his review is highly positive (which is a big thing since his reviews are most critical and considered the true barometer of how good the film is)

Masand's review: MNIK is inherently sincere

Cant wait for Sunday! With the deluge of positive reviews, my expectations are above the roof. And thats where I am scared! I want to like this film, and so got to try and supress the expectations down. Maybe I should indulge in a 'Shahrukh and Karan Johar' hate for the next few days to bring expectations down.:laugh

SRK is over rated actor :p
This film is very much on same lines as Kurbaan and New york and still both of those films combine together did not get as much hype as this one.

And since when did Autistic people started to look like SRK in this movie :p

Shahrukh did not apologize because he made the statement as a proud Indian himself. The Sena are fools who do all this for votebank politics. They have`nt won an election for ages now and have resorted to desperate tactics like targetting icons like Shahrukh and Sachin.

The people of Mumbai filled the theaters today and gave a slap on the face of the Shiv Sena. People do not share the sentiments of the Sena and it showed in the way they came out in huge numbers, kudos. Days like these that I feel proud of our democratic setup :clap.

SRK was never rated much as an actor. He is basically an entertainer and he does a fantastic job at that. I mean, all his movies get filled up very easily and have some record breaking numbers in box office collections. In this movie, he is trying out to be a noticeable actor and lets see how he has done (so far the reviews say that he has done quite a good job). He has done different films, thats all. Even in Chak De India, his acting was good but not exceptional (that last crying scene when his team won just shows how much limited acting talent he has). But he can pull crowds very easily (even male ones, now dont call his male fans as 'gay':D). MNIK has that subject backdrop but hearing the complete synopsis and seeing the trailer and stills, I am confident that this is an entirely different film with focus completely on the emotions (its a Kjo movie, after all:D)

Anyone watched the film? How's it?

it just shows how racist some indians can be.
they get angry at Australians by calling them racist etc when they are wrost then them

Are you referring to Shiv Sena? Every country has such crackpots among them. Its just that Shiv Sena are good at getting themselves noticed with their actions. I am sure Pakistan must also be having some people who hate Hindus or who hate Americans, etc. Australia has it (the recent attacks show it), etc

off topic but thats incorrect. None of the attacks involved racist motives. And about %90 of the time it involved indians causing trouble amongst themselves. Thet then use racism as a scapegoat exaggerated by the media.

Anyway, MNIK seems to a another eye opener to the public perception of Muslim's and other various prejudices. Gotta see it soon.

tbh, am tired of these whole 9/11 aftermath movies that are being made lately..
kurbaan, new york, MNIK etc.:facepalm

So, I watched the film yesterday and I am pleased to tell you guys that I am not disappointed at all. The film starts on slow note, but in a matter of 5 minutes it picks its speed. The acting has been phenomenal by both the lead actors (i.e Shahrukh and Kajol). Amongst recent 9/11 movies, this one is special, simply because it teaches you a lesson without a bullet being shot.

The movie could be a 5 star material if its ending was a bit different. I'd say that the film has an abrupt ending.

My rating : 4/5

Note to people who are going to watch the movie : One of the crucial scenes of the movie is just after the interval. So, don't take much time collecting your popcorns and pepsis.

Enjoy the movie!
