I love Math! [For all math lovers]

It's quite interesting to notice that Maths is a lot more popular with the Indian members. Is there quite a big emphasis on Maths in India? I know in Britain, it was always thought of as Maths being a bit of a geeky subject and the Arts were a bit more popular

The ones who get good grades go for Science stream, PCM (Physics;Chemistry;Maths) or PCB (Physics;Chemistry;Biology) or both. So the emphasis is mainly on science side rather than maths. Other people with not so good grades usually go for commerce. And a small proportion go for Arts. Arts isn't really popular in India. Maths is definitely more popular than Arts here.

What class you in mate? Because once you enter Class 11'th + in CBSE board, "Graphical stuff" basically coordianate geometry, and geometry become one and the same thing. Yeah really.

I started 9th ICSE this month.Anyways 11th CBSE is not a problem. After the 10th Board ICSE,you have an option to study in ISC which is higherr standard. But in India there are only 70 ISC schools compared to 35000 ICSE.SO there ISC is gone.Where I live, there CBSE is crap.

So only option left is State.
But AP state maths are of the best syllabi in India just below CBSE.:)

And my favourite problem in graphical solution:p

"The course of an enemy sub,as plotted on rectangular co-ordinate axes, gives eq 2x + 3y+4.On same axes a destroyer's course is x-y=7.Use the graphical method to find at which paths do both courses intersect?

I read a biog of an indian mathematician called Ramunujan, and it seemed when he was asked to go to oxford to do research india was extremely proud of him and he was heralded as a bit of star. it was a big deal for india to get recognised by the stuffy british elite in those days. you wonder if having a break through in that field contributed to it's popularity in indian schools and lessened it's stigma there.

I wonder, do all indians know who Ramunujan was? I would bet you most british people don't know GH Hardy, maybe Bertrand Russell would be a bit more recognised though, I guess.

Yes, we do know Ramanujan, and we do respect his achievements.

Indian parents think only lines which involve math and science have any "scope".

MATHS IS LIFE........
SEE I HAVE SHOWN HOW WE COULD SEE THE DEPRECIATION IN THE VALUE OF CURRENCY DURING INFLATION.....
1 PEN(p) COSTS 10 RUPEES(R)
SO 1 P=10R
HENCE R=1/10P SO HERE THE VALUE OF RUPEE IS 0.1PEN
AFTER INFLATION THE PRICE OF PEN IS 15 RUPEES
SO 1R=1/15PEN
HENCE THE VALUE OF RUPEE IS 0.66PEN
THIS SSHOWS THE DEPRICIATION IN THE VALUE OF MONEY........

I HAVE ALSO MADE AN AXIOM ON THIS OBSERVATION WHICH SAYS THAT THE VALUE OF CURRENCY IS INVERSELY PROPORTIONAL TO THE PRICE OF THE PRODUCT

I HOPE YOU LIKE THIS ONE

@shravi,Dude how can you say that Maths is the boring subject?

I just came in 10th ICSE and i really love Maths, specially Profit & Loss,Mensuration,Trignometry and algebra and all that...

Even the comp. you are working on is all composed of mathematical sums and differences....even for making games like 3d modelling etc. you need to know pythagoras theorems...

If you think that maths is a worst subject, then definitly you would not be liking Physics too....

I really Dont Like Geography & History:boxing

I think math is the best subject that exists in the world. Just can't imaging life without math.

This is going to sound really anal, and it's nothing personal, but it's maths not math [American accent], sorry it really annoys me when people do that:p

You are in ICSE too:)
The only subjects you are going to hate in ICSE is GEography.
