ICC Awards Thread.

Cricketer of the Year
Andrew Flintoff - People forget that the Ashes is included in this.

Test Player of the Year
Shane Warne - Same reason as above, plus he took 40 wickets for the losing side.

One-day Player of the Year
Mike Hussey - I think he didn't score a century, but he has boosted Australia 's totals so much in the last year.

Emerging Player of the Year
Alastair Cook - 100 on debut in one of the hardestplaces to tour. I would have gone for Asif, but his recent performances won't be included.

Captain of the Year
Michael Vaughan - May be crocked, but again I have to mention how he captained us in the Ashes. Dravid has a good chance too. Ponting's captaincy is average to say the least.

Umpire of the Year
Simon Taufel - The other nominees are just to make up numbers.

Women's Cricketer of the Year
Katherine Brunt - I have watched her against Oz last year and India this year; I'm no expert on Women's cricket, but i'll give her my vote anyway

Monty's inclusion is no joke at all; I think personality and how they play the game is taken into account for the Cricketer of the Year award, and you can't deny that Monty is loved by all, and his effort and work rate are second to none.

There is only one winner for cricketer of the year. Monty Paenser!!!!! ;)

Cricket exists outside of Australia and England.

Ye I agree nightprowler his list is slightly biased :p. I am confused though why Freddie aint on other peoples lists...

I guess because most people aren't taking the Ashes in to account.

Come one pal, you can't accuse me of being biased when a lot of the Asian minority on this board have chosen pre-dominantly asian players in their selection too. The Ashes will be a major influence, of that there is no doubt.

Not accusing of you anything, but a lot has happened since the Ashes. As far as the Asian members go, there are a couple who had predominantly Asian players, but how is that a justification for bias?

Right! Let's just stop any sort of racism thing before it gets more serious!

I'm aware that things have happened since the Ashes, but what i'm saying is that the ICC will be influenced by that, so i'm basing my results on the Ashes. If the Ashes hadn't have taken place, then Dravid would win the captaincy award, Yousef would have won the Test player, and i'd give cricketer of the year to Makhaya Ntini.

Who said anything about racism?!

ICC will have to take into account everything that has happened since the Ashes, and Ponting has been kicking ass in both forms of the game, so I can see him getting player of the year. Yousuf has scored 1100+ runs in tests between August 1st 2005 and 2006 @ 75, so he tops my list there, although Warne is a close second. Asif has taken 25 wickets @ 16.5.

If the awards are going to be as influenced by the Ashes as your list, then in my opinion it'll just be a big joke. Players from countries other than England and Australia won't even need to show up.

but guys the ashes isnt the be all and end all of the year,

say ponting scored a hundred in each ashes test match and then got ducks in every match since would you still make him player of the eyar just cos he played good in the ashes?

freddie had 1 good series and that was it,
he hasnt performed ever since the ashes but then ian bell should be included cos of his form against pakistan but thats not likely cos 1 series doesnt change anything,

based on these facts i would go for ponting as cricketer of the year,
yousof for test player of the year
yuvraj as odi player of the year,
asif for emerging player of the year

the rest i couldnt care less about as captains nominations are a joke basically

I only feel strongly about a couple of the awards. Yousef for Test Player of the year, he's been fantastic. I'd also like to see Jayawardene take the captains award - Vaughan's captaincy was excellent, but he had team of world class players at his disposal. Jayawardene only had a couple, yet has done really well.

Vaughan didn't have amazing players like Australia though, yet he still led his side to a 2-1 win against them. I totally agree about Jaya and Yousuf.

The Ashes is one series. This is not the ashes awards! There are other cricket playing nations out there.

Flintoff, batting average of 33 and bowling average of 28. Hardly worth cricketer of the year.

Panesar, bowling average of 32.4 doesn't impress me terribly either. I am not saying its bad, it is great for a spinner. I have seen him bowl, he was great. But he isn;t cricketer of the year potential. You guys sure do love him, but come down to earth.

I must say I disagree with you there. The way I see it, in my opinion, Australia had 3 absolute world class players: Warne, McGrath and Ponting (who didn't perform to World Class standard, but is still on that level IMO). England had 1, Flintoff. Now, the tier below that, which I have taken to calling 'Bloody good', England have (again, all my opinions) Tres, Strauss, KP, Hoggard, Harmison, and Simon Jones (Bell would also be in this catagory, but he had a bad series. Martyn and Gilchrist don't appear in the Aussie list for the same reason. Australia have Langer and Lee.

So Australia outnumber us on World Class players 3 to 1, but we have 6 'Bloody good's to their 2.

Vaughan did not have amazing players, but I'd argue that he had a better team overall.

I'd argue that Australia would have had a better team if McGrath had played throughout the Ashes, since three world class players can outshine 6 good ones.
