Yes?
"New Zealand cut short a tour of Pakistan in May 2002 after a bomb blast outside their hotel in the southern city of Karachi killed 19 people, including 14 French naval staff."

Who was targetted in that blast?

The team or the French naval?

In there, you will find your answer.

By the way, NZ toured Pakistan in 2003 quite happily - Vettori spoke a few weeks ago about if the level of security provided in 2003 was the same, he would happily tour Pakistan.

The level of security has increased from 2003.

Does it matter who was targetted? If theres a bomb explosion outside the hotel anybody in the NZ team could have been injured had they been outside at the time, if i remember rightly one of their backroom staff was injured albiet very mildy.

Pitches are not the issue. There was a blast in Pakistan during the Asia Cup, and that will not go down well some of the International teams. What is safe for you might not be safe enough for all the cricketers.

The ICC have said yes because the BCCI-led Asian lobby have forced them too.

In all but the final there was major security issues which were noted by onlookers.

Good to see it stay in Pak! Players who refuse to go should be fined for breach of their central contract, surely?
Who cares about the risk? Just live with it - the players are more likely to die in a car/coach crash than in a terrorist attack. I don't see what the need for all the uproar is!

common they reach the age of 60, nothing left to do, isn't it better dieing in a crash, just a though.

And was the blast even REMOTELY close to ANY cricketer?

7 Blasts rock Bangalore...

And India is safer than Pakistan? Seriously.

I don't see why it matters if cricketer was remotely near the blast, this must be deemed as a threat to security.Surely Pakistan should be using the resources used to set up the Champions Trophy to stopping this undercurrent of violence.

What undercurrent of violence?

Are we talking about Pakistan or Sri Lanka and India?

I am assuming at this stage that if India were to host the ICC Champions Trophy (somehow) that he would have no objections to it. I know its not gonna happen, since they hosted the 2006 edition (which was a borefest), but I'm just saying that pitches in India are definitely worse than the ones in Pakistan.

Rawalpindi is a bowling pitch (and 4 pitches are being relayed). Lahore is a decent balance between bat and ball. Karachi is a batting track.

Compared to India, where you need 310+ to win.

How was Champions Trophy 2006 boring? The games were low scoring, it was a close contest other than the final and it was thrilling to see West Indies do so well.

Boring in the sense that the crowds didn't show often, and the pitches were glued together.

Who cares if the pitches were glued together, they played very well. And of course the crowds would be low for games not involving India.

ICC Champions trophy 2004 and nothing beats that, that shi was good. I didn't watch ICC CT 06, so I don't know how it was.
