We haven`t had a good ODI series since the India-England series of 2007,which although was a bit too long as it was a 7-match series was a rivetting one all the same. The CB series this year is the only other good ODI series that I can remember but even that had a few pointless games.
I was hoping for a keenly contested Champions Trophy to revive the ODI game but this thing has really killed any such hopes.

Yeah, Asia Cup was the crappiest ever

So Pakistan will be sfe to tour in 1 years time now.

They should have pushed ahead with the tournament or cancelled it totally. Nothing will have changed in a year. England, South Africa and Australia will still have the same reservations over playing in Pakistan. The ICC's only delayed having to make a decision that will upset one of the power blocks.

Well, it might, given the recent resignation of Musharraf the country is going to be in a slightly worse state now. Fact is though that touring any country in the sub-continent is going to be risky, they all suffer from terrorist attacks. Some worse than others, though Bangladesh seem to get no bombings. It will always be a concern to touring sides.

The main concerns would be
- Political instability in Pakistan may cause the situation to worsen without warning
- Incidents in Pakistan are currently far more frequent than elsewhere in the region
- West-opposed organisations such as Taliban and Al Qaeda are known to be particularly active in Pakistan

The third point is key. It would likely be reasoned that the majority of local secessionist organisations such as the Tamil Tigers are not likely to target foreigners.

That said, it remains to be seen whether postponement is of use.

Al Qaeda, doesn’t exist in Pakistan, the guys who are bombing the Pakistani army and civilians are the Talibans, as our army had been bombing them in NWFP in Pak-Afghan border. Taliban wasn't a West-opposed organisation, untill they turned in 2005.

They have mainly targeted Police stations, Army stations, and mosques, so it’s unlikely they’d be on for “cricket stadiums”.

Incidents in Pakistan are currently far more frequent than elsewhere in the region, because of many recent factors such as new government etc..

I'm pretty sure the Taliban would have been anti-West as soon as the coalition invaded Afghanistan to kick the Taliban out of power ,in 2001. Of course it can't have always been bad between them, I believe they were trained by the CIA to fight against the Soviet Union.

That?s absolutely right, untill 2001, Al Qaeda was just a ideology that was very rare in the Muslim world, after 2001 by the help of US, it spread.

Also, the difference between Al Qaeda and Pakistan Taliban is that, Taliban only wanted Islamic rule on their own areas, tribes, not spread it to the west.

By the "help of the US" you are insinuating that the Americans have caused the problem. Given 9/11, I think otherwise. But yes, Taliban is only really concerned about Afghanistan, aren't international like Al-Qaeda, though Taliban does make most of it's money through the international drugs trade.

The Americans have indeed caused the problem.

No, they didn't. Al Qaeda created the problem with the 9/11 attack. Al Qaeda were known to America for several years before 9/11. Anyway this is off-topic.

I think the decision to move the tournament is a bit late. Oh well, gives our players a bit of a break before our One Day marathon in India, not forgetting the Stanford series!
