People will now pin blame on guys like Dhoni & Pant, but Kohli and Sharma needed to either press the button earlier or bat bigger and longer.
Thanks for this post. Spot on. Even Pandya could not hit at all once the England bowlers started bowling slower bouncers which were holding up in the pitch. It was superb bowling and they adjusted to the pitch accordingly. Rohit and Kohli, at least one of them had to stay till the end. I will say England bowlers tied us up after the Pant dismissal.

Also, Ganguly's commentary at the end was horrific.

Well, I watched Pant for the first time, couldn't see why he's too good.

MSD and esp Jadhav are to blame for this loss big time or atleast for not even getting close.

But Rohit and Kohli are bigger culprits. 28/1 in 10 overs. Just not going to work when chasing 330+

Give credit to England. They played really well and I feel they selected well. India had none of the "inches" moment go their way either.

We are a good side and all we need to do is take a look at one tactical side of things-

Our "7th player" the one who gives a few overs and makes a few runs is not getting us anywhere. We need to go with 5 specialist bowlers and Pandya. It's not like our top 3 will suddenly start smashing them in the first 10 next game and if you're 70/5 or 70/4 that extra batsman will win you one game in 500 but that 5th proper bowler will bowl his full 10 overs 450 times out of 500.

Yeah, if NZ wins on Wednesday, it's going to be a virtual quarterfinal between Pakistan and Bangladesh
It doesn't if India beats Bangladesh, Btw if India wins both, Nz wins, Pak wins against Ban then surprisingly Aus v Sa will decide PAK's SF, If AUS wins its AUSvPAK and if it doesn't its INDvPAK

He doesn't need to swing from the hills for that. He knows what ball he has to choose. It's not as if Shami would have come and won us the game.

It's convenient of us to blame guys who barely got 5 overs to make an impact and yet not look at the blokes who created the rut.

You make 20 in 10 overs chasing 340, you're going to lose. As simple as that! Sharma ji wants that MOS award badly!

I am not blaming Dhoni or Jadhav. It is a big factor the top 3 here who didn't take the initiative in the first 10 overs. However, that is the thinking that we have played ODI's with for quite a while now. We take it slow in the first 10 overs, save wickets and go berserk in the death overs. Even though we did absolute garbage in the first 10 overs, Kohli and Rohit at one stage did set a pretty good platform for the batsmen to come. Again, I am not going to blame Dhoni and especially Jadhav who has had 5 overs to make an impact and he has batted 1-2 time so far in the tournament. They were bowling very well but it's the intent that was missing which is my only problem.

Yeah yeah India won't ever know to win matches after this defeat. We see how Pakistan makes repeat of 1992 WC and India are virtually knocked out of 2019 WC just like 1992 WC. No wait. I think India lost so that Pakistan gets knocked out of WC ? I don't understand people taking jibes at a team after just one defeat. Okay we made mistakes as a side but what's the point in taking jibes at the entire team as a whole ?

No jibes at all and No 1992 similarities for me, I just don't buy and believe in that funny logic nor the team is thinking that way, that's just a social media stuff and sensation that media wants to propagate at the end of the day you need to perform to win matches. I just failed to understand no INTENT whatsoever in the last five overs. Anyway, the match is over now.

Rahul
Sharma Ji
Kohli
Dhoni/Pant depending on the situation
Pandya
Bhuvi
Shami
Bumrah
Kuldeep
Chahal

I would play Jadeja instead of one wrist spinner on a track like today.

Dhoni and Pandya struck at about the same rate. Jadhav was almost run a ball and you can understand that it's not easy to just go. Pant was good considering how little experience he has. I would not blame Kohli or Sharma, but if blame has to lay with the batting dept. then it definitely lies with these two.

Not particularly a Dhoni hater but still waiting to see Dhoni fans' theories so that I can laugh and get choked to death while laughing...

What he and Jadhav did today was misbehavior, no excuses. Losing can not mean catastrophic but lack of intention towards winning does.

You seriously think that they will drop Dhoni? He got 40+ off 30 odd balls at a S/R of 140. In the end, it looks real good.

LOL Seriously? One loss and we lose our mind to pick a line-up where our batting is only till number 4? No, thanks. Same team for me in the next game. I can agree with the inclusion of Jadeja and Bhuvi for dropping a wrist spinner if we are playing a game again on a pitch like today but definitely not that line-up. MS Dhoni is not going to be dropped.

Rohit never looked comfortable today and trust me it sounds so weird now that I am writing it because he made a tweaking century. Probably his worst century that I have seen. You usually see Rohit struggling initially but once he gets going, there isn't a better batsman to watch in the world. However, he just never looked comfortable today.

I don't see how India's defeat today closes the door for Pakistan. They can still make it if England lose to NZ and they beat Bangladesh. Same thing for Bangladesh. They can make it to the semis if England lose to NZ and Bangladesh beats both India and Pakistan.

Just to add my two cents to the debate here, the reason why many posters here are blaming Rohit/Kohli over Dhoni is because Dhoni is no longer the player who is going to perform miracles to win you games. At best, he does the bare minimum that an average player playing for a top team should be doing at 5/6. The lack of intent that he showed today was awful but it has been something that he’s doing for over two years. Most people are now used to it. His fans defend these performances with crazy theories whilst most of us rue the fact that a player who shouldn’t be here on merit is playing only because the BCCI didn’t groom a replacement for him at all due to him wanting to be here in this World Cup at ANY cost.
