Read some stats that say that Pakistan will need to win by close to 270 runs while batting first assuming NZ lose by around 120 runs today.

While extremely difficult, if Pakistan score 400 and bowl Bangladesh around 110-120 (hey collapses do happen) , that's still a possibility.

The game has changed so much that expecting a team to score 400 in ODI is no longer looking impossible. Not frequently but not out of reach either.

What is the margin, if they have to chase. Win in how many overs? Any idea?

Look at the irony! After the first innings, Pakistan would have been smiling that ENG got only 305 after looking good for 400. Second innings almost done and now they're wishing England had got that 400. Sport is just crazy![DOUBLEPOST=1562172843][/DOUBLEPOST]

PAK cannot go through on NRR. As simple as that. They need NZ to win, else it's Adios!

I expected them to beat Bangladesh if England lost today but with the result today I think Bangladesh will win!

NZ were in rich form before the India game and had thrashed India in the warm ups. I guess they will feel they missed out on a couple of points as well :spy:spy
New Zealand got lucky. If you offered any team one wash out before the World Cup they'd all probably take India, England or Australia. But that kind of luck, due to weather, could be countered with reserve days. There was only two days in a row where matches weren't finished, I think. So, there might only have been one match that went unfinished.

@abhi_jacko I get your point, but you would expect a semi finalist team to have beaten one of the top 5 teams to get there? NZ have beaten 0.

At the stage of the tournaments the matches were, I think PAK and BAN had enough momentum compared to SL when their washouts happened. NZ on the other hand had a washout against one of the favourites. Undoubtably, that affects the tournament!

Sri Lanka also beat England, so they might feel they missed out on a point against Pakistan. ;) Same goes for their Bangladesh match and Bangladesh probably feel the same about that one. It's a shame that two wash outs have had a big knock on effect for the chances of three teams. You can't really blame the weather, it's to be expected in England, but why there aren't reserve days is the ICC's fault.

For sure but at least matches could have been played out but you can't have reserve days for each match, It wasn't possible.

I remember Dave Richardson said that this kind of weather was unexpected this year. I won't talk about Pakistan only even India Newzeland match got washed out as well and both picked one point each. Rain is the beauty of Cricket tournaments I feel but the preliminary league stage of this WC was massively affected by it which was unfortunate and improper planning by ICC.

It is possible, the ICC are just too cheap to put them in place. It was disappointing to see the qualifying tournament be so effected by rain but it's even worse at the World Cup.

If it was India who had two wash outs and didn't qualify because of it, reserve days would be mandatory in every World Cup in the future.

At this present point, PAK have to win by 398 runs if they bat first.

Cricinfo says PAK need to win by 316 runs. Which means, they have to score in the range of 400+ to even have a crack at this.

As you mention in one of your above posts, today's result will deflate PAK so much that BAN will most likely win the game and close out the tournament on equal pts as PAK.

I mean the last time he scored a century was 19 October 2013 vs Australia

Last time he scored a 100 was on 15th Jan 2017 v/s England at Cuttack where India scored 381/6 after being 25/3. He scored 134 as India went on to win by 15 runs. Even Yuvraj Singh scored 150 in that match. It was one of the flattest wickets you can get but there was help for seam bowlers which India isn't used to playing on so he did well at the end.[DOUBLEPOST=1562174609][/DOUBLEPOST]
I guess Pakistan can try to win the world cup in 2023 now

Will they be allowed though ? As it is in India. As a Cricket fan I hope they would be there.

All eyes now on who faces England in Edgbaston. My personal preference is for AUS to face ENG at Edgbaston and IND face NZ in Manchester. But for this to happen, SA have to beat AUS and IND have to beat SL. I am not counting it out. There is still interest left in the remaining league games from a "Top 4 standings" perspective.

There has been a recent government regulation which says no country will be barred from international sporting events (WC, Commonwealth games etc) based of political considerations.

For Pakistan to qualify:
Beat Bangladesh by 311 runs after scoring 350
Beat Bangladesh by 316 runs after scoring 400
Beat Bangladesh by 321 runs after scoring 450
If Bangladesh opt to bat first on Friday, Pakistan stand eliminated even before a ball is bowled.

Whoa... Toss instantly decides PAK's fate? That moment is going to be so very exciting. I know the above scenarios look far beyond impossible (considering Bangladesh's current form) but this is some entertainment :lol:D
