For Pakistan to qualify:
Beat Bangladesh by 311 runs after scoring 350
Beat Bangladesh by 316 runs after scoring 400
Beat Bangladesh by 321 runs after scoring 450
If Bangladesh opt to bat first on Friday, Pakistan stand eliminated even before a ball is bowled.

And this is why NRR is stupid.

I think NZ had their worst defeat today. I can't believe that they given all what they achieved earlier in the tournament. Just hard to believe that this team was first in the tournament 2 weeks ago !! :facepalm

Both India and NZ have disappointed me this tournament. But India still lost just 1 so they can stil improve and can even go on to win the Cup but it's difficult.

Will Basit Ali blame India again today?

I wonder what he would say about Bangladesh if they win the toss and choose to bat tomorrow ... handing Pakistan a knockout without even giving them a chance

Not really...
We could have a match where Pakistan go into it knowing that if they beat Bangladesh and tie with New Zealand on points, having already beaten them, they will go through on a head to head.

As it is, we have a game that could be decided by the toss of a coin and, even if it isn't, will be a largely pointless match, excusing something truly remarkable.

It makes cricket look silly.

Result of not pushing the advantage when you are on top... barely managing a win against Afghanistan instead of maximizing run rate. Losing to lower ranked teams. Seems fair to me

Absolutely nothing silly about it.

If I have to decide right now between the three of NZ, Pak and Bangladesh, Bangladesh would be my pick. They have played the best cricket out of those 3 teams throughout the tournament.

I would agree to an extent. Their matches were the most exciting, even in their loss. But their bowlers failed big time, giving the batsmen well above par scores to chase. And their chases fizzled out after Shakib's efforts.

Beating the team who qualifies ahead of you, as well the team above them. Doesn't seem fair to me.

Agree to disagree it is then :cheers

Look at the @ICC tweet comments, it is so toxic and so much hate between nations... such a shame really

Hated, adored, never ignored :yes

What if Sarfraz wins toss and bowls first? Hows that? :p

So we should get only one point for beating Afghanistan? Blaming the point system won't work, every team had fair chances to qualify and that's how it works in the Football WC as well where you don't get bonus points for beating a team above you.

Calling NRR to be silly is again pointless, you earn or lose based on your performance there's no magic involved.

New Zealand have been a huge disappointment in this World Cup so far. Expected them to be fighting for 2nd place and had them as unlikely winners of the Cup but

  • Their openers have been beyond dreadful. Nicholls should have been the opener right from the start and Munro should have been brought in once Guptill was losing form. In an ideal world, Munro would have been discarded as a T20 only player with Will Young playing after being groomed last year but we all know how NZ loves it’s thoroughly average players like Broom, Ronchi etc.
  • Roscoe has finally dropped a tier below superhuman levels of performance and it has exposed just how much their batting lineup has relied on him and Williamson to score the bulk of runs. Their reliance on this duo eclipses even the Indian top three’s importance to their team.
  • Latham has finally made a contribution today, but would he be good enough in the semis versus a rampant Aussie side or an Indian side that is already seeking revenge for the warmup loss?
  • CdG has far surpassed my expectations of him but Neesham and him in the same lineup still feels like too much of the same batting wise. Thought Santner was good enough to bat at 7 following his excellent form vs England last year but he hasn’t been able to replicate that so far.
  • Their death bowling still remains a concern to me even if they pulled things back well today. Lockie has been their best bowler so far and if he’s not fit for the semis, NZ could be in big trouble.
  • They’ve looked nowhere near good versus England and Australia as you need more than just 2-3 players actually contributing to win versus a favourite.
